ParticipantAre you saying they work in the stock download? They don’t work for me using the default theme.

InactiveWell, look at it this way. WordPress doesn’t have a feature like that, so why should BP? There are themes out there that let you do that and that’s fine. That’s the way it should be with BP as well. In time there’ll be a lot more themes and maybe some of them will implement uploading a logo image, but it should not be in core.

ParticipantWhether it’s a theme design problem or not (calling it another name does not lessen the need), creating a simple solution to a basic function of the software would be a great move.
It’s true that personal design is open to interpretation and the point could be made that you shouldn’t try and read everyone’s mind. But…to keep things simple, allowing a user to upload an image (whatever the design…) would be a tremendous benefit to the BP plug-in.
One of the keys to the plug-in’s proliferation will be its simplicity (mixed with good design) and topped off with an innovative function supported by reliable results.
I think you guys are well on your way…good job to everyone here that supports this project!

ParticipantI think this is a great startingpoint for a BuddyPress site.. I really like the Thematic framework, and I will start looking into making a child theme for this.. Thanks for all the hard work you have done with this, and I have a feeling that this could be a big step forward for BP theming-wise!

ParticipantI have replied to an other ticket of yours.
It seems your using custom themes (based on your previous ticket) and may have some collisions as Andy has pointed out.
I recommend posting your theme code and we the community will be better able to help you.

ParticipantI have read all that but none of those scenarios seem to match mine.
This sounds about right: “I’ve built a completely custom WordPress theme and BuddyPress themeâ€
But like I said, when I move /wp-content/bp-themes/themename to /wp-content/themes/themename per the instructions here: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/upgrading-a-buddypress-1-0-theme-for-buddypress-1-1/ that doesn’t do it either.
Is it because my bp theme doesn’t have a parent/child relationship?
The entire BP theme is /wp-content/bp-themes/themename

ParticipantFirst, always read the readme.txt files that come with WPMU and BuddyPress.
Second, see these links:

ParticipantThanks – you can pretty much edit the style.css on this theme directly if you like. I had done borders and a bg color on the chunk footer, but decided to take it out.

Dan Butcher
ParticipantBrajesh, thanks for checking on that theme. I will try substituting the comments.php file.
What did you look for in buddy theme to determine that it does not support threaded comments? I chose it because 1) it’s designed to match the BuddyPress default, and 2) the description says:
Tags: Orange, two-columns, threaded-comments, fixed-width, right-sidebar
I’d like to know what code to look for in themes in the future to ensure that the theme supports threaded comments.
Thanks.

KeymasterIMO this is a theme design decision; if you want a graphic logo on your site, then that’s a custom theme. The bundled theme is just a starting point, even if you only re-do the colours. I’m even going to go so far to say if you want a graphic rather than a text header, you are very likely to want to change some other aspect of the site design at some point; so you’d be creating a child theme for that anyway. I can’t see people *only* wanting to change the site title to a graphic being a very common situation.
In previous versions, we used to get a lot of questions about which file to replace for the graphic, and ‘what font was used/can I have the PSD file for it’, and all the issues that both of these entail.

ParticipantI agree with you Erich73 and so does stwc in his post here where JJJ recommended:
“Take the files from bp-sn-parent/groups/single/forums/ and copy/paste them into the same location in your child theme, then season to taste.”

ParticipantHi Andrea_r, waiting for videos to your session/s at http://wordpress.tv/event/wordcamp-new-york/

I tested your theme in a site under development.
WPMU 2.8.5.2 + BP 1.1.2 + bbpress installed via BP one click
Main site with MU Sitewide Tags Pages
BuddyPress main site in blog-ID-2 at http://members.example.org/
Thank you for the clean theme. Without looking at code, i.e., checking it out like a newbie who activated the theme, following are some quick notes:
1. wp-admin-bar – Text (e.g. Org Members) of link to BuddyPress site ( http://members.example.com) shows up in backend (dashboard etc) but does not show up in front end. The link block is there and clickable to main BP site, but the text does not show up. Still, the wp-admin-bar shows correct links to main BP site, etc. throughout the site including sub-blogs.
2. Footer widgets only showing up in only in blog areas – is this the intention?
3. h1 – cannot find it anywhere in the theme. Need at least one h1 per Post or Page
4. Main Nav – link to Forums was not generated to show BP main site nor other subblogs nor main site, while link to a newly activated “Events” plugin page was generated to show in the main nav across all sites. (the link to Forum shows up in this install when I use child theme)
5. Main Nav – like the official bp-child theme, activating the theme in sub-blog for groups or individual members does not show correct links to main BP site features like member/group/blog directory. In order for one theme to be used throughout the site, conditional statement will be needed to show correct links to main BP site conjoined with respective blog’s navigation links.
Quick scan in main BP site (blog_id_2) to see how theme works in different sections
6. Members Section
– directory page – 2 columns – ok
– My own admin individual profile page – skeleton set up with 2 columns where in left column is avatar, options bar and user bar boxes. But there is a large space on the right side as if missing a 3rd column. Checked links in options bar resulted in two columns with links except the ff which has a missing left column – Edit Profile page, Change Avatar page
– If I click on another member’s individual profile page – left column as two user bar boxes unlike the link to my profile which has the options bar and user bar. In addition, when I also am missing the left column with options/users boxes in Blogs link page, Friends link page, Groups link pages plus the Events link page is incorrect and goes to front page of site
7. Groups Section
– directory page – 2 columns – ok
– Group individual page – skeleton set up with 2 columns – but there is a large space on the right side as if missing a 3rd column plus the page is missing all sub-navigations for Creating a Group, Creating forums etc
That’s it for now. As mentioned above, didn’t look at codes “behind the scenes” at this point, only the functionality if newbie user activated it.
Good luck

good one!

It should look like this site: http://mamacommune.net/

could you provide a screenshot to see if it fits?
btw, i like skeletons we can use to apply variations/themes to them…

ParticipantGood catch on point #1.

And thanks.
Edit: now I know what I was thinking there… it’s gotta work on regular WP/MU sites too, so the BP function alone won’t cut it. I’ll figure it out tho. The point of that menu item is for people who want the main blog shuffled off the front page and/or users in a subfolder install of MU where the /blog/ is in the permalink anyway.

First of all thanks for the clean theme.
here is what I found.
1.The site.com/blog will not work with this theme if buddypress is enabled.
Please have a look the function “bp_dtheme_show_home_blog” inside bp-sn-parent,copying pasting ,that section will make it work.
2.On the profile page, a little bit more styling of userbar and optionsbar (yeh,I mean margin padding) will be nice.
Overall ,this looks good and is very clean.
I appreciate your hard work.
Edit: Spelling corrected

Okay, just to make sure, you are running WordPress Mu and not single-version WP, correct?
Since above you indicate that this is a clean install, I would suggest starting over from scratch once more. This means deleting the MySQL DB ( I assume that there is no data worth saving since you said that this is the first time you had installed WPMU). Next, reinstall WPMU and fully test it before installing BuddyPress. Once you’ve determined WPMU is functioning properly, then install and activate BP. Choose the default BP theme. Do not install any other plugins until you have verified that BP is functioning properly.
To make sure that you install both WPMU and BP properly, read the readme.txt files that come with each application.

I checked buddy theme 1.3 .It does not support threaded comment .btw,Try replacing the comments.php from buddytheme by comments.php from either default or home or bp-sn-parent.May be that should make it work, but you may need some css styling in that case.
