ParticipantOn a similar note… I wanted to remove one of the sidebars from the widget admin area since I won’t be using them all in my child template. I tried this but it did not work
Spent a few hours researching and trying different things (including every possibly priority setting). No dice. I eventually gave up and hacked function file of the parent theme.function remove_sidebar() {
unregister_sidebar('third-section');
}
add_action( 'admin_init', 'remove_sidebar');October 5, 2009 at 3:34 pm #53870In reply to: Make your own custom BuddyPress page

ParticipantHey Guys, I still can’t get this to work? I am on bp ver 1.1
Maybe things got changed in the update that would effect the way this works? I really need to have custom pages for this to work for my site. Again, to recap, here is what I have done:
put the below code into : (wordpress mu and buddy press are installed into subfolder)
mysite/subfolder/wp-content/themes/bp-sn-parent/functions.php and created a page in the same directory called dashboard.php
CODE:
// creates custom page
define('BP_DASHBOARD_SLUG', 'dashboard');
function bp_show_dashboard_page() {
global $bp, $current_blog;
if ( $bp->current_component == BP_DASHBOARD_SLUG && $bp->current_action == '' ){
// The first variable here must match the name of your template file below
bp_core_load_template( 'dashboard', true );
} }
add_action( 'wp', 'bp_show_dashboard_page', 2 );
//
end custom page
URGENT: Need to figure this out!!!!

ParticipantMan my head is swirling from browsing the Forums for the right thread. I was trying to be good about not re-posting a similar topic/issue, but I give up. Hopefully this is the right spot?
I’ve upgraded my site. All was well, but the bp default theme admin bar keeps re-directing to the homepage. I try to see my profile and it sends me to the homepage. I’ve noticed that Buddypress.org is doing the same. I try to click on my name and it takes me to the Buddypress.org front page. Quite discouraging. suggestions?
I’ve tried the following, which I thought might help:
– cleared my browser cache
– turned off all site plugins, activate only BP
– it is not related to bp-themes location. I’ve read all of the threads on the proper placement and the bp-default theme is displaying fine
Please advise.

ParticipantOkay that seem to work
i uploaded the new themes, activated then in the site admin in MU
then i changeed to default BP 1.1 template in Appearance
then i activated the buddpress plugin
something is causing the error even with the default wpmu theme
so if someone simply installs wpmu then goto plugins and try to install budpress that way, they in trouble.

I’m using the child them that came with it, and modifying it only slightly. It doesn’t work out of the box on a users blog. The members section, groups, forums, and blogs directories show blank pages under the new blog. Like so http://www.domain.com/newblog/members ..
It shows nothing. So I’m currently trying to copy over the subfolders from the parent theme to see if that helps. I thought that you only had to replicate the files that you wanted to change so I’ll be pretty disappointed if that works.
Everything else works fine, and all of the things on the link you sent appear to be included.

ParticipantI’m having an issue with child themes. I created a new one as my default for all new blogs. When I enable it on a new blog the directories for members.. groups.. etc.. are all blank pages. What gives?! I didn’t change any of that, Its not a style issue either because it just doesn’t return any html. The buddy press bar on the top is working?
I’m at a loss. Is this by design?
..update.. I just changed the links back to the home theme manual in a revised header.php. Seems a little weird that the parent theme has links that are relative to the current blog for the directories. Wouldn’t it make more sense for those to be relative to the default domain so that they continue to work when a child is created? Or is there a circumstance when an added blog will have separate members groups and forums?

ParticipantHi, I did the upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1 and it looks ok. The only problem I have is that the “Blog” tab (to the right of the “Home” tab) on the home theme point to the wrong URL. How can I change that?

Then “Site Admin > Themes” menu. Finally, activate the BuddyPress default theme in “Appearance > Themes”

ParticipantHaving a similar “blank site” issue as @danbucher. I can’t even login on my site…just the blank screen.
– Currently running wpmu to 2.8.4a
– Manualy installed buddypress 1.1
– Delete the /wp-content/bp-themes/ folder and moved the /bp-default/ and /bp-sn-parent/ folders
My error_log says: “[03-Oct-2009 22:54:13] PHP Warning: require(BP_PLUGIN_DIR/bp-core/bp-core-signup.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/fashion5/public_html/wp-content/themes/denis_template/functions.php on line 70″
Assume that I need to direct the admin page theme to the BuddyPress Default 1.1 theme. But not sure how to do this since I have a blank site.
Any ideas? Thanks!

ParticipantAnd I gave the answer in that same thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-says-themes-are-missing-but-they-arent#post-25240
If you want to learn more about why the theme architecture was changed, you can read this forum sticky: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/details-about-the-new-theme-architecture
Or, read this blog post by Andy: https://buddypress.org/blog/news/the-new-buddypress-theme-architecture/

ParticipantI’ve just faced this same question in this thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-says-themes-are-missing-but-they-arent
The answer seems to be yes, but it feels like quite a convoluted process. I understand the ethos from a design standpoint as to why they want a Buddypress theme used as the primary theme on ones WordPress site, but I really feel that this is an inflexible approach for those who have well-established WordPress sites already active.

ParticipantI’m having the same issues as markschafer. I have the AvenueK9 theme running correctly on BP 1.1 beta on a root install, but just as markschafer described on a BP 1.1 subdomain install. Maybe this means something?

ParticipantIs there a tutorial online that can assist me with this? Or alternatively, is there a workaround for the issues I was facing with the user registration glitch I was having using the 1.0.1 Default theme with Buddypress 1.1? Everything was running very smoothly with 1.0.1 with the exception of the user registration.
