ParticipantJust come back to see if there’s any progress on this post..
By the way, @nobodyridesforfree are you sure that put a custom error message on ‘/bp-themes/bp-default/registration/register.php’ is not enough for you? At least temporary, until you find better solution later.. just a thought ..

ModeratorYes, but if you wait a few weeks for BP 1.7 you’ll not need to hack a WP theme to work.

ParticipantUpdate:
I also repeated the process above with the default buddypress theme activated and the problem issues were the same.I also found from a post a couple of years ago that it could be that there was not a GD image package installed on the server. We have the following installed:
GD Graphics Library version 2
GD is a graphics library. It allows your code to quickly draw images
complete with lines, arcs, text, multiple colours, cut and paste from
other images, flood fills, and write out the result as a PNG file.
This is particularly useful in World Wide Web applications, where PNG is
one of the formats accepted for inline images by most browsers.
.
This is the runtime package of the library, built with XPM (X pixmap)
and fontconfig support.
Homepage: http://www.libgd.org/
Original-Maintainer: GD team
Package libgd2-xpm
Class K-O
Version 2.0.36~rc1~dfsg-3.1ubuntu1
Vendor Ubuntu Core Developers

@mercime
ParticipantFirst, do not upload the WP theme you’re going to use in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/ like you did in your site.
– Backup server files and DB. Deactivate BP and change to Twenty Eleven theme.
– Move over Techline theme folder to wp-content/themes/
– Activate BP then activate your Techline themeNovember 11, 2012 at 4:09 pm #144843In reply to: Need a little help with a custom Theme

ParticipantCan I do this without activating sitewide? I don’t want to network activate, only on some subsites. Also, if I do network activate, I can’t find a way to get it to work on subsite. It only is showing on main site with network activate. I am using BP default theme on subsite.

ParticipantHello all,
I managed to get it working. Although I still don’t know what the problem was. I uninstalled WordPress entirely from my server, then proceeded to re-install and go step-by-step through the process, using the same style.css as before, and it worked.
Ye’olde reboot solution!
Cheers.

ModeratorCover image has been such a requested feature. I will write a plugin that themes can use to display images. It will only be for BP 1.7.

1) Visit the plugins page. This should deactivate all plugins.
2) Rename the wp-content folder back to “wp-content”
3) Activate the BuddyPress plugin.
4) Activate the BuddyPress Default theme.Does this help?
