    @mercime
    I uploaded the bp folder manually the first time.

    The admin bar only disapears while going through the setup process on the themes selection. Every other admin screen is fine and the public pages are fine when logged in.

    I just cant get through the bp setup process. The wizard stalls out.

    @robert-tramontano Will try to help. Hopefully, it won’t be too complicated.. Have to see what has been done though. If you are still going to use that theme, open up your theme’s regular page.php file, copy all code, paste to pastebin.com, click submit and post the generated URL here. Do the same for the revised index.php file in your theme’s member folder in server as in wp-content/themes/yourthemefolder/members/index.php

    @mercime Yes I have a screenshot but did not know where to upload it but the programmer just kind of stuck it to me.. I repeatedly told him the theme still had a few issues and he gave me a hard time about it so I am screwed it seems unless someone can help me. Ok I have read about BP 1.7 but I will be sticking with 1.5.7 like glue as it has no issues.. I tried 1.6 and it was a nightmare for me and my setup. Was using the flexibility 3 theme but thinking about switching to another theme. Either way I have the issue though.. I tried the same templates for the flex 3 theme that the programmer did for me and it worked on the other theme as well.. if I could just figure where the code for width needs to go I will be set..

    Wait are you talking about messages.php?

    @wcten you’ll need to wrap the HTML structure of the page around the content of this file https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.6.1/bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/activity/permalink.php which would be in your server wp-content/themes/yourthemefolder/members/single/activity/permalink.php

    If you used the first method for Step 3 (changing 16 template files), then copy over the revision for the top part of the files and replace ` ` Next, copy over the revision for the bottom part of the files and replace ` `

    == I looked in the messages php files and did not see any width adjustments ==

    In many cases, one only needs to adjust 16 template files listed here https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#tplfiles which have the major HTML containers for the content of all other BP template files. As you will see, the message templates are not included there because the messages content is contained in the members page structure. In some cases, one only needs to create two files for theme compatibility. Come BP 1.7, you won’t even need the BP template pack plugin anymore as theme compatibility is being built into the BuddyPress plugin itself.

    Have you brought this to the attention of the one who fixed your BP template files? What WP theme are you using? Do you have a screenshot of the issue compared to other “tamed” BP pages?

    @famous that is a free plugin :-) Know that I always mention if a plugin I refer to is premium.

    @mercime – because I use wordpress & buddypress, I do my best to not ever rely on anything paid. Do you happen to know of any other way, or will it be built in the future?

    Thanks

    == I sadly did not keep track of weird, off-hand alterations I might have made to the files I brought into my theme from core ==

    Back up DB and server files then re-upload BuddyPress manually. If you mean you copied the bp-default theme and made it a stand-alone theme and uploaded it to wp-content/themes/ folder then I see no issues. On the other hand, if you made changes directly to bp-default theme in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default, then that could be the reason why you’re having these issues.

    @mercime Yes I am using the template pack and had a programmer do some compatibility coding since it seemed too complicated and everything else seems fine right now except this but I did not check groups yet either.. he set it so certain files have a set width that I can change the size but I looked in the messages php files and did not see any width adjustments so i figure he must have missed this somehow.

    == my theme and inbox messages being larger than the content area ==

    Are you using BP Template Pack with your WP theme? Inbox messages should have been contained within the content area if Step 3 of the compatibility process was successful. Is that page the only one affected within the individual member’s pages?

    @famous something like this for multisite user blogs http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-profile-for-blogs-widget/

    @sb0n What theme are you using? Theme demo URL? need the pastebins for your theme’s header.php, index.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files. Initial scan shows that you could possibly get away with creating two files for compatibility instead of revising 16 files, but I want to see the “whole picture” first.

    Does that mean that I can integrate users data with their blog. Right now the two are separated. I want to show blocks of information from a users profile in their blog. For instance:
    Show profile fields, avatar upload and other info on a users blog page.
    Is that possible?

    thanks

    @micjavier provide testuser login info so I can see the buttons you’re referring to.

    I think this theme is out dated, there have been postings about it being broken.

    @mercime I have been trying to put a sidebar on members “profile” page. For instance a side bar on a page like this http://www.guitaragora.com/members/marcel/ … Does that make sense?

    @mercime
    thanks for your continued attention.

    – I have not tried reuploading/reinstalling as that might put me back in modifications (though I haven’t touched core, I sadly did not keep track of weird, off-hand alterations I might have made to the files I brought into my theme from core..not many, but you see what i mean). Seems drastic, but might be the only option at this point. Though i need to wait for that to happen at the moment.

    – I installed WP manually.

    – Deactivated all the plugins (even the buddypress template pack, which didn’t have any effect) and the problem still remains :(

    I made this: Add this code at the end of functions.php file included in your theme.
    It adds “Login – Register” or “Logout” buttons to your nav menu:

    add_filter('wp_nav_menu_items','add_login_buttons');
    function add_login_buttons ($nav){
    if ( is_user_logged_in() ) {
    return $nav."<li id='menu-item-10' class='menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page'><a href='".wp_logout_url( home_url() )."'>Exit</a></li>";
    }
    else {
    return $nav."<li id='menu-item-51' class='menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page menu-item-51'><a href='http://www.sitename.com/loginpage'>Login</a></li><li id='menu-item-51' class='menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page menu-item-51'><a href='http://www.sitename.com/registerpage'>Sign Up</a></li>";
    }
    }

    I double checked, registrations and blog creation are permitted. I’m using the Salutation theme. I’ll switch to default and check to make sure it is there. Of course, your response indicates that the feature still exists (I wasn’t sure if it was removed) so now I know I need to troubleshoot.
