ParticipantYes, there does seem to be a few issues.
While buddypress is claiming that there isn’t a need to network activate, making it work on a subsite doesn’t seem to be as easy as one might expect. I haven’t figured out how to get past the permissions thing on subsite, but network activating in the base site also doesn’t seem to connect to the subsites. They don’t seem to know buddypress is activated. Kind of frustrating, but when someone shares the secrets with the rest of us, it will be quite a nice install, I presume..Also, with themes that are compatible with v1.56, are they still compatible with 1.6? Or do the new files need to be moved to the theme directory to make everything work right? I ask these questions because of the problem I seem to be having with not being able to find buddypress profile from the subsites.. I am being directed to the WordPress profile, not buddypress, from the subsites.

InactiveIs there anyone that can help or at least point me in the right direction? I am almost done with this theme that I would like to release for free to the bp community. I just want this one thing finished before I do. I really would appreciate any help and I can give you credit on the theme for development as well. Thanks!

Keymaster@joshualedetnet (and others having the issue) – Could you help us to debug by putting the following into your bp-custom.php or theme’s functions.php file?
`add_filter( ‘bp_do_redirect_canonical’, ‘__return_false’ );`
And then let us know whether the redirect problem stops. (If it does, you’re welcome to leave that line in there until there’s a fix – it simply disables a new canonical URL feature.)

Member@mercime, thanks for that suggestion. I will definitely test with the bp-default theme first from now on. I appreciate your help. Q!

Participant@mebo For Step 3, you need to revise 16 template files listed here https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#tplfiles

KeymasterInteresting. Thanks for the heads-up.

Roger Coathup
ParticipantThis will tell you about hook and action programming in WordPress: https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API
The do_action() calls are there for you to add your own hook functions, and in some cases will also invoke hook functions that BuddyPress / Themes / other plugins have added.
You can add your own hook function that is called when the do_action ‘bp_before_registration_confirmed’ is invoked. You use add_action to add your actions.

KeymasterWhat versions are you using, which theme, and can you confirm how you banned the user?

Participant== the plugins should all work correctly as they did before the issue with the incompatible theme. Right? ==
It depends if the plugin is compatible with latest WP 3.4.1 and BP 1.6. I would stick with the bp-default theme while you activate the plugins batch by batch (after you’ve checked that they are compatible) and then change to a BP-compatible theme.

@mercime
Participant@smackmathew Your issue sounds similar to those who are using the Salutation theme. If so, there’s a theme upgrade available from the theme vendor. If not, what theme are you using?
August 10, 2012 at 3:15 am #139013teorourke
ParticipantWonderful! It worked with only renaming the plugins folder. I’ve since changed it to the twentyeleven theme.
Now, if I have a compatible theme and apply that, the plugins should all work correctly as they did before the issue with the incompatible theme. Right?

Participant== Is there a way to change themes and/or disable buddypress through ftp? ==
Yes. Just rename the folder of your active theme as in e.g. wp-content/themes/yourthemename-changeit and for plugins, just rename the whole plugin folder wp-content/plugins-renamed/ and then go to yoursite.com/wp-admin/

ParticipantThanks Sarah, just tried that but still cannot gain access to anything. In fact, I get a new set of errors.

Participant@mebo looks like you’ve fixed the alignment of the BP template file with your theme’s HTML structure in the second link.

Participant== where is that CSS living though? ==
You add those styles posted by karmatosed in the style.css file of your theme.

Participant== Ok, I finally got the profile menu to work. How do i take out the dropdown menu? ==
Glad you finally got it working. What/which dropdown menu are you talking about specifically? In which theme and where is it located (header, sidebar, footer, etc.)?

Participant@queenieb I test every install with bp-default theme before activating other plugins or adding new theme. I was going to check out the issues in your site but the username/pw you gave above is invalid

@mercime
Participant== I seem to be having the problem of the “profile” link now showing up in all of my custom menus as well as links to all different profile links showing up next to the sidebar and in my footer. How can this be fixed? ==
Check if you’ve added a function to filter the wp_nav_menu in your theme’s functions.php file. If the filter is not targeted to one menu location, then it’s going to appear in all the custom menus registered for your site

MemberI have tested just about every “Premium” BP theme (including the one in your link) and I can tell you there is only one responsive (or otherwise) theme I would ever use…
PS
Have not tested Frisco, but it looks promising.August 9, 2012 at 9:42 pm #138981teorourke
ParticipantGah! My theme was discontinued from where I bought it. It’s called gratitude by zen themes. I didn’t even think of compatibility when I updated. Completely my fault.
I renamed the theme in the ftp manager and tried going into dash after that, and still got the same error. Is there another way around?

ParticipantYes, have a look at custom activity loops here: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/
Then in your theme templates you can use any WP functions to check the current user’s role, and call your custom loop accordingly.
