@mercime
Participant@goviral Closed your other thread with basically the same questions.
1. To remove commenting (and comment button) in activity stream,
Just add this to your theme’s functions.php file
`// Do not allow commenting in activity stream
add_filter(‘bp_activity_can_comment’,’__return_false’);`2. is there any way I can change other buttons/icons through the child theme?
Simplest way is to use text-indent to the specific button and add the image background. For example, for the Activity Favorite button, you’d add something like this in your theme’s style.css file
`#activity-stream .activity-meta .fav {
background: #000 url(“images/myfavoriteimage.png”) 0 0 no-repeat;
text-indent: -9999px;
}`then change background color or image when you hover over the favorite link. Use Firefox add-on Firebug or use Chrome developer to identify selectors to change styles/values for in your stylesheet.

Participantdefault.css is comming with bp and overriden at each update. Don’t touch it !
As soon as it exist, style.css from within your child theme has priority.So you can copy/paste the css parts you want to change to your child style.css and work on it. The only thing you must be carefull is to use the same ID and class names as from the original default when you work on existing styles.

MemberHi Chouf1
Sorry, I’m not being clear enough. I’m already using style.css, but I’m finding that overriding the #nav rules in default.css more complicated than its worth.
What I’d like to do is override default.css in the theme with a local copy so I can comment out the section which is causing me problems and replace it with fresh rules in style.css.
This is more a WordPress question than a Buddypress one, but is it possible to get WordPress to load a theme css file by placing a copy in your child theme, or do I need to mess with the PHP to change the location? In the interests of BC and upgradablility I’d rather not trash all the CSS.

ParticipantHi, you don’t need to copy default.css to your child theme. Use instead style.css in the child theme and add your changes to the specific part taken from default.
Example: let’s say you want to change the width of div#content .left-menu from 170 to 200px
in default.css you have`div#content .left-menu {
float: left;
width: 170px;
}`In your child theme, you write this in the style.css file
`div#content .left-menu {
width: 200px;
}`https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

Participanthello,
put this into your child theme functions.php:
remove_filter( 'bp_get_the_topic_post_content', 'stripslashes_deep' ); remove_filter( 'bp_get_the_topic_latest_post_excerpt', 'stripslashes_deep' );June 11, 2012 at 11:40 am #135663In reply to: [Resolved] Remove Comment under Activity Feed

MemberI’ve created a child theme & am using bp-default theme. Is there a way I could remove the comment under the Activity Feed? Or could I maybe change the “Comment” button to just a button that gets clicked (similar to “like” feature) and still counted?
Also, is there any way I can change other buttons/icons through the child theme?
site is: http://sst1.everythingeasternbeaches.com
Thanks in advance.

Member@mercime thank you, manged to get the look and visuals sorted out, will take your advice.
Then maybe you have some wisdom, on my posts page, when people comment I want these pages to display pagenumbers ie after 5 or 10 comments, then break and make a next page.
I have used the default settings, no go; then added every related plugin possible but page numbers dont show.
Have you any wisdom?
Thank you. KarlJune 11, 2012 at 4:49 am #135654@mercime
Participant@karljung from your post at https://buddypress.org/community/groups/installing-buddypress/forum/topic/compatability-with-enews-theme-from-elegant-themes/
I just checked out the BP pages in your site. Looks like you’ve already completed the major part of the compatibility process. The layout structure looks good and you only need to tweak the styles to correct some vertical spacing and removing the bullets from ordered lists, etc.

Participant@aarc I didn’t notice that the code got messed up above before I left the forums, sorry about that.
Delete the current content of your sidebar-buddypress.php file. Replace it with the cleaned up code above and upload to server.

KeymasterI’m not spending time building CSS/HTML for you, but the templates you need to edit are in the /achievements/templates/ plugin folder. Copy the directory inside the /achievements/templates/ folder into your theme, and edit those files.
The directory template is the ‘index.php’ file in the achievements subfolder above.

Member@mercime I follow your answers with great interest, I have the suffusion theme with the suffusion bp pack and then added BP, now my site looks great, however the BP specific pages such as activity etc, look totally different. see at http://www.godstruths.com Please help me I am exhausted
tried so many things, have got no help yet from aquaoid of suffusionyet. It looks to me these pages pull the style from itself and not the main theme. How can I correct this? (I had not activated bp templates under advice from suffusion) Much appreciated. KarlJune 10, 2012 at 5:55 pm #135639karljung
Member@hugo thanx.for?….. been there done that long ago, still waiting.
the issue is see here are bp related, because in fact it affects the bp specific pages drawing their own style in place of the suffusion style, I had installed the suffision bp pack and even tried rebuilding bp press files option.
Maybe theres a guru out there who has the answers, I have searched everwhere I could look, come across many with similar issues… but thanks anyway hugo.June 10, 2012 at 4:19 pm #135638orebian

@mercime
ParticipantB. COPY your theme’s sidebar.php and Save As > sidebar-buddypress.php
Open up sidebar-buddypress.php and add the following at the TOP of the file, above other code:
``
At the very BOTTOM of the same file, below other code add this:
`
jQuery(document).ready( function() {
if ( jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).length && !jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).hasClass(‘show’) )
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).toggle();
jQuery( ‘input#signup_with_blog’ ).click( function() {
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).fadeOut().toggle();
});
});`
Save file.
C. Upload header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to your theme folder in server wp-content/themes/quik-gallery/ in the same directory where your regular header.php and sidebar.php files are
D. Final note: Copy the style modifications for some BP elements https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/ and paste those at the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet, then adjust to taste.
June 10, 2012 at 2:35 am #135624In reply to: Need help with theme – Quik Gallery
@mercime
Participant** index.php code in pastebin.com is not your theme’s index.php file but that of BP Activity Stream’s index.php. I recommend that you re-upload your theme’s files again to server to make sure that all required theme files are online.
Moving on to the template compatibility process, you will be creating two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php per instructions below.
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your quik-gallery theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your quik-gallery theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the BOTTOM of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
`
`Save file.

MemberI’m not sure what I’m looking for in those files. So it seems when replying and commenting in wordpress post seems fine, but when I try to add comments or reply in the activity stream of buddypress I get the 404 page.
