@mercime
Participant1. Create a Network in subdirectory structure
2. Set which blog ID BuddyPress will run on: For example, your new sudirectory, /network is the first subsite you created (therefore with ID #2), then add this to your wp-config.php
`define ( ‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, 2 );`3. Install and activate BuddyPress. Go through Installation Wizard.
4. Install and activate https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/threewp-broadcast/ where you broadcast posts from /network/ into main site which will have a regular WP theme. Author link, if theme dev added it per post, would link to main site’s author.php/archive.php file which will list author’s posts in main site only and will not link back to /network/ site.
Should you have any issues with ThreeWP Broadcast plugin, please post at WordPress Multisite Forums or at plugin WordPress.org

@ChrisClayton
ParticipantI don’t believe their are any specifically for BuddyPress, however any WordPress theme can be transformed into a BuddyPress theme with the BP Template pack (1) and their are afew WordPress themes around. Including AuctionPress (2), and Sitemile Auctions (3).
1. https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/
2. http://www.premiumpress.com/auctiontheme/
3. http://sitemile.com/products/wordpress-auction-reverse-auction-theme/April 21, 2012 at 6:10 am #133346In reply to: New Install Issues
@mercime
Participant@xenoflare As I see it, you’re using the bbPress Twenty Ten theme that’s bundled with bbPress plugin. I recommend you create a child theme of Twenty Ten, copy over the styles there, and activate. Then run Appearance > BP Compatibility and keep the bp.css and js enabled. The instructions for Step Three of BP compatibility are in page 2 of the link I posted above.

@mercime
Participant== how do i safely remove the blue background in the header. ==
@idowu create a bp-default child theme, go to wp-admin Appearance > Header and upload your header image. That’s it. Then override stylesheets. https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
April 20, 2012 at 11:06 pm #133340@mercime
ParticipantB. COPY your theme’s sidebar.php and Save As > sidebar-buddypress.php
Open up sidebar-buddypress.php and at the TOP, above all code contained within, add this
``Then at the BOTTOM of sidebar-buddypress.php, below all other code, add this:
`jQuery(document).ready( function() {
if ( jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).length && !jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).hasClass(‘show’) )
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).toggle();
jQuery( ‘input#signup_with_blog’ ).click( function() {
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).fadeOut().toggle();
});
});`
Save file.
C. Upload header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to your theme folder in server wp-content/themes/peekaboo/ at the same directory where your regular header.php and sidebar.php files are in
Final note: Copy the style modifications for some BP elements https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/ and paste those at the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet, then adjust to taste.
April 20, 2012 at 11:05 pm #133339@mercime
Participant@kiddie Per option #1 discussed above, you only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your peekaboo theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your peekaboo theme folder in server – activity, blogs, forums, members, groups, register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the bottom of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
``Save file.

MemberHey Hugo,
thanks for your quick response.I’m all for a bit of hard work just trying to get a handle on it. This is my 3rd site and 1st time with buddy press. For personal trainer with no tech background I think I’m doing pretty well.
Looking into getting started codex now.
I’ve had a play with register settings in wp and believe I’ve set it up but when I go to registry ( would like to have it as side bar) page it goes to my homepage. So confused on that one.
Just trying to get handle on one end and then work through. Can’t wait till I’ve mastered buddypress. I think it’s awesome just gotto learn how to drive it properly.
Is there other plugins that you could advise on that you think could be useful for my exercise meets tastykitchen site?
Many thanks.

Participant@tank2012 these questions are a little general, have you read through the BP codex ? Read through the beginners guides first as they will answer some questions.
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/Basic things like starting forum topics, registering really require having a little play around with the install before you let lose live. Registering is a WP function and initially you need to enable it in the WP general settings then the BP page will work at /register/ or whatever you titled the empty page.
Forums have to be enabled in the BP settings and then you can add them to groups or run as a sitewide one – again have a play around first to see how these things work then post back in a new thread if you have specific issues and problems.
Lastly bear in mind that TastyKitchen woulld have taken a while to get to the stage you see so be prepared for a little work getting there.

MemberThank you for your reply mercime. I got it installed and everything fits and looks fine. I am having some issues though.
I’m trying to set-up my buddypress side of things and community like http://tastykitchen.com . It seems they have a normal site and then they run buddy press in it. Is that correct?
At first I only wanted a forum plugin and that’s how I found buddy press. I did want to develop a community eventually – buddypress looked like the king and so I installed it !
How do my members register and how do I set this up? Do i need more plug-ins Buddypress or have I over looked something? Ideally I would like a side login section just like tasty kitchen.
Also how do I start forum topics?
I want users to be able to join as members for free post and interact in forums and have their own unique profiles like tastekitchen in a controlled environment.
Please help I’ve looked for tutorials and tut vids but I’ve yet to find a decent one.
Also is there other plugins that you could recommend that I might need to help me run it like tasty kitchen.
THANK YOU

MemberThanks
I think option 2 is bigger but easier . Isn’t it ? Or option 1 is best ?
Ok, then, please give me full instruction for option 1 .April 20, 2012 at 7:24 pm #133333@mercime
Participant@kiddie To clarify, there are two methods for making the necessary template changes. to fix alignment see https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#fixalignment
In your case, we can do either method and I added disclaimers above in #1 and #2 – re page title etc. You do not create 2 new blank files – I’ll give the code for those two files if that’s the option you want OR a different set of instructions if you opt for #2
April 20, 2012 at 7:15 pm #133332@mercime
ParticipantIf you’re using a child theme of bp-default theme, you could instead create a blank home.php file then in it you only add one line:
“
then upload home.php to your child theme’s folder in server
April 20, 2012 at 6:21 pm #133327metro
MemberWii you please tell me , what do you mean by point 2 ?
I just created 2 new blank files name ” header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php ” and upload theme in my theme folder .April 20, 2012 at 5:53 pm #133330In reply to: About Buddydev.com

Participantaha thanks. mercime. Sorry for saying that it looked dead. Just a lot of their plugins and themes haven’t been updated for a while I think. but maybe they don’t have too.
I would have asked buddydev at his forum but is was private so I came here. Anyways I know a lot more know thank you
April 20, 2012 at 5:40 pm #133326In reply to: About Buddydev.com
@mercime
ParticipantBuddyDev is alive and well the last time I looked
And if I recall, there are membership levels there which allow you access to all plugins and themes. Confirm with them first.BP Mag Theme – As with other regular and premium themes, BP templates for plugins with template files included need to be updated and revised. @sbrajesh is active in providing support for the plugins one needs to use with the BP Mag theme.
You’d have to let sbrajesh know which Events plugin you want to use for BP Mag and if that BuddyPress Links 0.5 – is the premium version updated for BP 1.5
April 20, 2012 at 5:19 pm #133323@mercime
Participant@kiddie you have two options:
1) Create only 2 files – header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php and upload to server
– only thing is, the title of the page won’t be shown as seen on demo but instead will be atop content area, on the same level as the Directions link in the right sidebar of the demo.2) Revise 16 BuddyPress template files – and upload to server
– the title of the specific pages will show up just like in demo but you’d also have to update the BP template files when the BP Template Pack plugin is updatedLet me know.

April 20, 2012 at 3:53 pm #133310@mercime
Participant@kiddie Check if your premium theme has already been “template-packed” in these forums at https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#template-packed-wordpress-themes
If yes, then follow instructions posted therein and post here if you have issues.
If not, let us know what the name of the theme is. Then open up your theme’s header.php, copy all, paste all at pastebin.com, click submit and post the generated pastebin URI here. Do the same for your theme’s index.php, page.php, sidebar.php and footer.php

ModeratorWhat desktop browser are you using? I couldn’t replicate the switcher not working. I’m not sure about the “cookie package” that’s not a necessity. Glad you got it worked out. Another note, I only test on default BP theme so when you venture into custom themes all plugins could break.
April 20, 2012 at 6:25 am #133271@mercime
ParticipantIt means that Huddle theme has not been updated for BP 1.5.5. Don’t know how Themeforest works – you might have to pay for every theme update. Or, if you bought it recently, you have the right to get a theme which is compatible with current BP version. Please contact your theme vendor.
April 20, 2012 at 5:43 am #133270odofincaleb
ParticipantI change to default and it worked, so what do i do. I am using theme huddle
April 20, 2012 at 5:10 am #133268@mercime
ParticipantHard to say. You’re using a premium custom theme with custom BP compatibility and use many plugins and it’s happening to some people and at different times – one was registered last week and the other this week.
Have you tried changing to bp-default theme? It won’t correct the erroneous links from the past, so check if links to names are corrected in new activity logs. Did you install new plugins – around the time this behavior was observed?
