Participant1) Re: delete not deactivate
You can safely delete each Group you’ve created in each Group’s admin settings.
You can uninstall the Forums for groups in dashboard menu BuddyPress > Forums > uninstall group forums.
You can uninstall Sitewide Forums in dashboard menu BuddyPress > Forums > uninstall sitewide forums.
Then, go to BuddyPress > Components > remove checks for User Groups and Discussion Forums2) Re: if you look at my site http://www.sweepbook.com/rate-this/ you will notice the menu items are on top of each other
– I don’t see that in your site. So it’s either you’ve changed the theme to bp-default theme or you’ve decided to use bp-default’s custom menus to organize your links.
3) Re: The logos on my site, redirects to http://www.sweepbook.com/rate-this
– Right now I see that you have HTML pages at domain root http://www.sweepbook.com/
So where did you install WP/BP, in subdirectory rate-this?and the redirect is to
redirect is to http://www.sweepbook.com/sweepbook/rate-this/ .

Thanks for your comprehensive reply. Do you mean this issue was “confusing”?
I used the web host’s automated system.
Renamed plugin folder and then moved all the plugins back into the original plugin folder, except for the Buddy Press plugins. My WP dashboard and website is now accessible again.
Checked the codex compatibility list. This suggests there may have been a conflict between my Expresso event and BuddyPress plugins – another good reason for removing BuddyPress.
Yes, I did go through the theme compatibility test and passed.
Thanks again for your help.

ParticipantThis is a little confusing….
Did you install wordpress and buddypress yourself ‘via ftp’ or did you use a webhost’s automated system and how far did you get with wordpress before these errors occured? It might be easier to re-install wordpress from scratch manually….
Renaming the folder would disable buddypress so that shouldn’t be a factor, suggesting this is not a buddypress problem. Have you installed any ‘buddypress’ plugins and what wordpress plugins have you installed? Are you sure these are all compatible with your versions of bp/wp ( https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/plugin-compatibility/ ) .
To get back into your wordpress installation you could try https://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F
Did you go through the theme compatibility process for buddypress: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/ ?

@mercime
Participant== I want to replace the buddypress search box from top header ==
If you have a bp-default child theme, copy over header.php from bp-default theme https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.4/bp-themes/bp-default/header.php
Then delete lines 25-44 from header.php per link I gave and move those lines over where you want it.== Is there a buddypress 1.5 compatible plugin that manages banneradds? ==
You could create widget areas then just add the sidebar areas where you want them to show up in theme, see how to http://justintadlock.com/archives/2010/11/08/sidebars-in-wordpress
February 17, 2012 at 2:21 am #129954@mercime
Participant== I’d need to show the login form to all the users that get to the BP site. Only on that one. ==
Copy code from bp-default’s sidebar.php to your bp-default child theme or custom BP theme. https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.4/bp-themes/bp-default/sidebar.php

I have renamed the the BuddyPress folder to BuddyPress2, using my ftp software. This had no affect either.
It it helps I am using the Creativix theme which is the second most popular after Twenty10, so I thought it should be proven and therefore minimise any technical issues there maybe.
Your suggestion for a check memory allocation plugin is a great one. I shall install one, once I have managed a way back into my Admin dashboard.
Finally you may wish to know that the error code that I see in my host error log is that the fault is happening in a line in the php-db folder.

MemberHello,
I think i have the same issue. With Wp 3.3.1, BuddyPress 1.5.4 and bbPress 2.0.2, when a user try to edit his profile, the nickname is deleted. I try to deactivate all my plugins and change to bp-default theme and no difference. I have no proble with the wp-admin.

ParticipantNot all hosts allow you to increase memory that way. Some do not allow it at all!
To get into your admin you could use ftp ( or your web-host’s control panel ) to disable some plugins by renaming the directory/folder(s) – ie:- /wp-content/plugins/theplugin/ – Some plugins use a lot of memory.
If the theme you are using has lot’s of options it could also be quite memory hungry.
I find the check memory allocation limit feature of https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-system-health/ ( screenshots ) useful to find out how much memory WP thinks it has. There are other alternatives though…

ParticipantYou’re welcome.
Someone tried to make your theme compatible with BP using the first method — changing 16 BP template files starting with /activity/index.php. I see a duplicate `
` within the file I mentioned.To make sure that you have clean BP template files, delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your puretype theme folder in your server. Then re-run Appearance > BP Compatiblity and go through the process of transferring clean new BP template files.
Also you might want to use some or most of the styling mods done for BP Twenty Ten at middle of this page https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/

Participant@mercime Thank you so much! You are awesome.
I just have one page which is still off a bit:
http://www.caregiving.com/activity/Would you have any suggestions of how I can fix?
Thank you again so much!
February 16, 2012 at 4:51 am #129896In reply to: [Resolved] Alignment problems with PureType Theme
@mercime
ParticipantC. Copy your theme’s sidebar.php and Save As > sidebar-buddypress.php
Open up sidebar-buddypress.php and at the very top of the file, above other code, add this:
``
Then at the very bottom of the same file, below other code, add this:
`jQuery(document).ready( function() {
if ( jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).length && !jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).hasClass(‘show’) )
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).toggle();
jQuery( ‘input#signup_with_blog’ ).click( function() {
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).fadeOut().toggle();
});
});`
Save file.
Upload the three new files to your server wp-content/themes/puretype/ the same level where you find original header.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files

MemberThanks for your advice about the appearance > theme editor. You’re already helping me with the other issue is also an another thread I made. I’m curious if you know of any video tutorials or anything like that because there are so many basics discussed on this forum that I don’t understand. For example, I don’t know how to make a bp-custom.php, I don’t know how to make a child theme, etc. When I google them, all I get is buddypress.org. Yet, while I’m here, I have people tell me to do these things, but I simply don’t know how. Any advice on how to learn the basics?
February 16, 2012 at 4:27 am #129894In reply to: [Resolved] Alignment problems with PureType Theme
@mercime
Participant@tadpubco Looks like you only need to create three files header-buddypress.php, sidebar-buddypress.php and footer-buddypress.php
A. Copy your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the very bottom of the file, below other code, add this:
``Save file.
B. Create a blank footer-buddypress.php file

Participant@dsg257 by Weaver theme, are you using the free version from WP Theme Repository https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/weaver or the premium version?
February 16, 2012 at 3:03 am #129885In reply to: Buddypress/Pagelines
@mercime
ParticipantNot quite a BuddyPress issue but more of Pagelines theme. You should check out their docs where you have to install the “BuddyPress for PageLines Plugin” on top of the BP Template Pack plugin. Not sure how fresh the info is though http://www.pagelines.com/wiki/How_to_Use_the_BuddyPress_for_PageLines_Plugin
You should post query about BP Compatibility at theme author’s forums.

MemberThanks for your response,
I have WP 3.3.1/BP 1.5.4
I’m logging in from a mac, so I believe it’s OS X? I’m using Safari. Does that answer your question appropriately?
I have the default BP theme
I have installed s2member, akismet, bbpress, bp, bp pending activations, invite anyone, jetpack, mail from, page tagger, skt nurcaptcha, wiziapp, and wp show id’s
For permalinks, it’s set to post name. When I tried it as default, it gives a 404 error message when someone tries to get on the site.I installed the plugin ‘redirect to profile’ but that one didn’t seem to work. However, I found one called ‘profile as homepage’ and it seems to work when someone has left my site without logging out and then goes back to the site. But it still doesn’t do the trick when a person logs in. I still get the same ‘page not found’ message.

ParticipantYes they ought to – not much more I can add to that really
I would guess that if you are running a child theme something in your file naming / wp settings is overriding things .February 15, 2012 at 10:36 pm #129877In reply to: Nested comments reply doesn’t work, does nothing…
Hugo Ashmore
ParticipantAre you running a custom theme? If so have you tried deactivating and running the BP default theme to see if the issue still manifests, that way you narrow down the issue to a theme related one. If the issue is present with BP default then detail your setup and versions – oh and deactivate any plugins that are not 100% required to eliminate those from the problem.

ParticipantThat search, in bp-default header.php, is within the site header area.
You seem to be talking about the adminbar which I dont think includes a search, though I seem to remember that there was one once…
It looks like you’re using a converted version of http://www.elegantthemes.com/gallery/aggregate/ which has a preview: http://www.elegantthemes.com/preview/Aggregate/ showing a search feature in their adminbar so maybe it is a theme option?
