ParticipantYou can make your WordPress theme compatible with BuddyPress by installing and activating the BP Template Pack plugin. After which, you’ll need to go through the BP Compatibility Process – https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/

Participant1. To make your WordPress theme compatible with BuddyPress, install and activate the BuddyPress Template Pack plugin and go through the BP Compatibility process – https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
2. As for Wishlist or S2Member, there’s been positive and negative feedback on both [EDIT – S2Member specifically notes support for BuddyPress which you should take into consideration]. You should contact vendors of both plugins about planned/scheduled plugins’ update for compatibility with upcoming WP 3.3 (prob this coming week – there are major changes) as well as upcoming BuddyPress version. Then check out respective plugins’ forums and see which has more issues reported and which provides more support.

@mercime
Participant1. Build a child theme of the BuddyPress Default theme https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
2. Copy over header.php from the bp-default theme to your child theme folder https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.1/bp-themes/bp-default/header.php
3. Add the following code from sidebar.php into your header.php wherever in the structure after the body tag you prefer. You need to style your login form accordingly (horizontal or vertical).

This code works perfectly, just insert the code into your theme’s function.php file.
Enjoy!

ModeratorBuddyPress will run slower than a basic WordPress because you are using more db/server info with each page refresh. Anything than can to enhance a WordPress install will help BuddyPress. Use a cache plugin, not run many plugins and use a theme that doesn’t require as many files. You could use a CDN to offset server hits to static files.

ModeratorYou have to copy over the folder ‘achievements’ inside that contains the achievement templat files to your custom theme and then fix he HTML to match.

ParticipantWell everyone I appreciate you taking a look at this, I found the solution to my styling issue at the Paralleus support forum for my theme, Salutation: http://para.llel.us/support/groups/salutation-wordpress/. Just log in and search ‘achievements’ and you’ll find a long thread that will take you through it. A couple other issues popped up but hopefully nothing that causes the headaches that this one did.
Thanks

MemberYou mean in the main navigation menu ? (the pages below the search box in the bp-default theme)
In that case you could just create a new WP menu (in the admin’s dashboard, Appearance -> Menus)
Hope it helps !

ParticipantYou can use the 2nd method with Twenty Eleven theme. Here’s a walkthrough for the child theme. You’ll find Step 3 using 2nd method on page 2 and some style tweaks on page 3.

MemberHi,
Username and Password are both “khurram” sorry about that!
If you take a look at the register you should be able to see the issues. I am using the 16 BP template files method. My problem is that no matter what I change in those files nothing changes on the main website, even if I delete the 16 BP files.
I only have one theme on the site and the files are placed in the correct theme but they do not seem to take effect. Very strange!

2012 Project 12
MemberI cannot find how to start a new topic so hope I am not offending anyone posting here.
My new site is 2012project12.com It is an art and photography project to inspire world peace and encourage environmental awareness. It is not fully functional yet. If you would like to join up for free just now you can. When it gets to the paypal part you just don’t pay but go back to the site and type in your user name and password and you will get a free membership.
I have a question. We have an album page with which our members can upload 12 photographs (one for each month next year) but was also want people to be able to upload links to video’s they have made and also be able to upload text documents. Does anyone know how we can incorporte them into the album page or put in any other way of the members accounts?
Any other suggestions and tips about the whole site would be greatly appreciated. 2012 Project 12 is a registered non-profit, based in Iceland.

Those are the basic adjustments added in stylesheet which you can further adjust to taste.

MemberMingle theme. I realized (like an idiot) that buddypress.css is provided by Mingle (obviously) so anyway, how can I override the css specifically for the top admin bar? I have added the WP admin bar back in but buddypress.css is still forcing another 30px space under the WP admin bar. So it looks now like I have two bars:
I tried this to no avail:
body bp-adminbar {padding-top: none !important

ParticipantIt was working after the upgrade. It looks like something in my theme is conflicting with wp fb autoconnect, so that’s switched off for now. The odd thing is that it seemed to change on weds evening when I was away from my computer, so I don’t think it was me. Maybe something with Facebook, possibly an entry in the database or maybe gremlins – I’ll need to do some testing over the weekend

MemberNevermind, I just uninstalled bbPress 2.0, installed group forums and all is good. It now looks the way it is supposed to. Since the Mingle doesn’t yet support bbPress fully with site wide forums, i’ll just stick to this.
Thanks anyone who posted or tried to help me.

MemberOk I found out that Mingle theme is not compatible with site wide forums. they use internal (database driven) group forums. So could someone please please, pretty please tell me how to switch now?
Also, one other question is, since BuddyPress is supposed to be a network wide feature, how come it didn’t generate buddypress pages for all my other sub-blog / sub-sites? How do I get buddypress to work on those? I red how to “move” buddypress to a secondary blog, but I don’t want to “move” it, i simply want to use it on all my blog/ sites in my multisite network.
Thanks!

MemberSo what your saying is that only the group forums works correctly with Mingle in the way Mingle intended? So in that case, how do uninstall site wide forums and switch to group forums? Also, it says the bbPress plugin is installed, but why do I not see the bbpress folder in my plugins folder in FTP? I’ve reconnected several times and it’s just NOT there… what the heck?
December 8, 2011 at 8:27 pm #125890graphicscove
ParticipantI don’t think I’ve actually done the functions.php thing.
I’ve created a separate theme directory with a style.css noting within the file that the parent is the Buddypress default theme.
December 8, 2011 at 8:18 pm #125888@mercime
ParticipantThey look different because you’re looking at 2 different instances of bbPress. You’ve installed the Sitewide Forums (aka bbPress 2.0+, the plugin) while that Mingle theme shows the Group Forums (aka internal bbPress). See https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
