Participant@tommyhoang glad to hear you got it working. The header widget is supposed to be where you put it.
Just move it in your header.php file to where you want it to show.September 7, 2011 at 7:34 am #119694In reply to: Remove search box from header in Default bp theme

Member@sbruner, great news! i finally got it to work! thanks for the all resources and help man. really really appreciate it!!!! one last question, is the header widget suppose to be below the default buddypress banner? i was hoping for it to be on the banner.
my widgetized footer only displays the widgets vertically and not hortizontally. i believe ill have to do some style.css with this but im not very good with coding. So i decided to not use widgets and just edit the codes in my child’s footer.php to include links to pages. hahaha works great but hopefully i didnt do something wrong by using this alternative route.

Member@r-a-y, when you say (YOUR IMAGE URL HERE) do you mean just paste a link to the picture we want? How would i change these codes so that I can simply upload a new header image in dashboard and crop it to a certain size?
i’ve used this tutorial http://buddydress.com/2010/04/custom-header-tutorial-adding-an-image-and-changing-the-size/
but it gets all messed up when i edit my child theme’s default.cssSeptember 7, 2011 at 4:22 am #119689In reply to: Change inline css members activity

ParticipantI found this `
` and I’m pretty sure that the BP Template Pack plugin devs did not hardcode that width and float style there.Open up permalink.php file which you’ll find at
wp-content/themes/yourWPthemefolder/members/single/activity/permalink.php
and remove `style=”width: 675px; float: left;” `September 6, 2011 at 8:45 am #119654In reply to: BuddyPress theme with bbPress templates

Participant@modemlooper how’s it going? Getting to themes yet? Sorry for bothering, you have definitely a lot of work to do at this quick time. The left sidebar is the only thing that I haven’t figured out yet, everything else is now working as expected. Is there maybe any temporary solution? Some quick code that would to this?

tommyhoang
Memberawesome suggestion ewebber. i found that line in the file forum.php located in bp-default/groups/single/. i made a copy of the folders and file into my child theme: childtheme/groups/single/forum.php. and i deleted the line “You will auto join when you create a new topic”.
my users now don’t auto join when creating a new topic and the message is no longer there. HOWever, my users still auto join to the group when replying to a topic, and the message “You will auto join this group when you reply to this topic” is still there and it still works.
i thought the custom.php command would disable both of them. but apparently it only disabled the new topic auto join and not the new post auto join.

Participant@tommyhoang you can remove that line from the relevant file in your child theme, probably something like groups> forum> single.php although you’ll need to check that file name

MemberOK – so I’ve (among other things)
1. Created the 404-handler.php and changed my IIS admin to the /404-handler.php
2. Tried the special web.config settings for IIS7 (but I have IIS6) – it made no difference
3. Played with my IIS Admin settings
4. Changed settings in my ini.php file to set the directory target
5. Read a lot of .htaccess coding and mod-rewrites. I think my eyes are bleeding (haha – just kidding)SO I WENT ON TO
1. Deactivated then Deleted BP and all supporting plugins
2. Deactivated the theme I customized and activated the default WP template.
3. Reinstalled BP
4. Activated the BP theme
5. Still won’t let me register, upload avatar, add a group or do anything else.Any ideas?
I am NOT getting a 404 error – but when I enter any new info – new registration, new group, etc., I click “submit” – the form resets, but I’m still on that page. Nothing happens. My upload files are empty of any BP info. My media files DO upload fine.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can (pretty please with sugar on top) solve this mystery!!!!

ParticipantI also successfully used the old method (13 or so files) with the new bp template pack. Couldn’t figure out whether or not I was using the new method correctly so can’t really comment on it. But the old method with the new bp template pack does the job.

ParticipantWorks! But I still used the old method of editing 13 files instead of using header-buddypress.php, sidebar-buddypress.php and footer-buddypress.php. It seemed the files weren’t used by buddypress at all and the page source for any buddypress page was empty. Anyone else experience that?

ParticipantI did exactly the same and found that a plugin which enques jquery incorrectly totally broke all BP interactivity – can’t update, post, reply, delete, anything. After deactivating that plugin, the site behaved as if it was working via css ajax updates but the database wasn’t actually changing. It appeared the form action wasn’t submitting properly. I’ll try the recent bp-template pack and report back.

Participant@linick, why is the default theme that comes with BP 1.5 (in beta) not sufficient? It’s probably the highest quality Buddypress theme out there. Have you found a gap in features/functionality in the old vs new or vice versa?

Participant@johnjamesjacoby I’ve installed BP Beta 3 with the bbpress 2.0 plugin – everything works fine (Thanks!)…
…only one thing is missing: where are the bbpress favorites in the BP profile page? Thanks for help.September 5, 2011 at 6:17 am #119594In reply to: My buddypress site: yeah! Hackney

Participant@harty I played around with if statements in my actual child theme php pages, but it’s likely that the second link you posted might be the best way to go – I think a bp developer might know best.

Member@sbruner, on the homepage of my site, right below the header it says : “widgetize header, This panel is active and ready for you to add some widgets via the WP Admin”. same with the footer. yeah i copied and pasted the exact codes from the article.

MemberImage uploads work perfectly via the media library. I’m not sure what a native WP gallery is….
I created an avatars folder earlier today in my /uploads/ directory – I’ve tried to upload avatars and the folder is still empty.
File permission for the uploads folder and subfolders is 755.
Because I also can’t create groups, or register as a new user, I’m wondering if there isn’t some weird root folder link that isn’t working correctly. I’m not getting any errors whey I try to add a group / upload avatar, etc. – it’s like it just ignores me and gives me the original blank entry form (and doesn’t put the info anywhere).

My site is hosted through Readyhosting on a Windows 2003 server (a pain – I know).
I used Buddypress on this server months ago, but took it down when I revamped my site and used Elegant Themes.
Thanks in advance for your help!!

“installed and activated BP Template Pack plugin, then customized templates from template pack plugin to fit your theme’s HTML structure, right? Are you using the latest BP template pack plugin”

Participant== customized all the templates to fit my ElegantThemes template. ==
Just to clarify, you installed and activated BP Template Pack plugin, then customized templates from template pack plugin to fit your theme’s HTML structure, right? Are you using the latest BP template pack plugin?== After hours of searching the forum, working through code, and feeling like I’ve tried everything, it is doing the same thing ==
Could be conflict with elegant theme. To check: Deactivate BP Template Pack plugin, go to Appearance > Themes and change to bp-default theme and check if you can create groups, upload avatars and the like.September 4, 2011 at 9:25 pm #119577In reply to: Buddypress Child Theming
@mercime
ParticipantMake sure that you added term buddypress to tags in your child theme’s stylesheet
`Tags: buddypress, etc. etc. etc.`Another way would be to add the following line to your wp-config.php
`define( ‘BP_SILENCE_THEME_NOTICE’, true );`The first one is easier I think
September 4, 2011 at 7:46 pm #119569Nahum
ParticipantDone.
I got to writing up the ticket and it made sense to try and include other WP notifications like
1. comments approvals [your comment was approved on X blog,
2. drafts being published [ your posts was published ],
3. if admin plugin/theme update alerts [3 plugin updates available]
4. integration of Form submissions…I guess anything WP sends out emails for…Would also be a good place to record all previous BP Public Notices…and Forum notifications.
basically a user private/personal activity stream for admin/dashboard type stuff.

KeymasterIf you’re using BP 1.5, and the default theme, it has support for assigning page backgrounds to specific component pages now, in the standard WordPress way.
