    Did you add a plugin or change theme before you “lost” the group? Deactivate those. Did you or someone change group to hidden?

    Ok, correcting my previous assumption – it’s been a long day sorry. So you have a single WP installation with BP activated. Prior to installing BP, you had this PHP signup form which worked in your WP installation. You’ve deleted the PHP signup form and the BP registration form does not show up when you go to http://yoursite.com/register

    To troubleshoot whether it’s a BP issue, given above conditions, deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to bp-default theme. I assume that you haven’t changed any internal BP configuration like renaming register to something else, go to http://yoursite.com/register. If that works, then ..

    Are you using a WP theme with BP Template Pack plugin for compatibility? Activate both and check registration. If that works, then ..

    Activate other plugins one by one to identify which one is messing up with registration page.

    You are probably using an old BP theme that’s not been updated. Change to bp-default theme to see if same behavior applies.

    @DoctorDR looks like i’ve found the solution… and i hope everyone out there will find this helpful too.
    Problem Statement: I wanted to have a custom set of 10-15 avatars uploaded into a folder, and buddypress would have to pick from any one of these to assign to members(on random) everytime then login if they havent uploaded their pwn profile pic.
    Why: Lets say am on the members page, and everyone is displayed over there.. we can get different custom pics rather than just one custom pic.
    Solution:
    Step#1: Change the settings to “mystery man” in your buddypress backend.
    Step#2: Upload pics into a folder in your child theme (i uploaded them into wp-content/themes/default/images/avatars/ ).. my theme name is : default, and in it i made a folder for images, and once again another folder called avatars. now… within avatars i put in 10 pics named the following “1avatar.png”, “2avatar.png”, “3avatar.png”… and so on… till “9avatar.png”
    and lastly…
    Step #3: Paste the following code in your functions.php child theme (taken from a combination of other sources)

    {
    $length=1;
    $characters=’123456789′;
    $string=”;
    for ($p = 0; $p < $length; $p++) {
    $string .= $characters[mt_rand(0, strlen($characters))];

    and thats it… give it a shot… worked great for me! i hope this helps others too cause i saw a lot of people asking for this to no avail…

    Hi Joanquingrech.

    You can change any of the labels and messages in BuddyPress to whatever you want by making a customized language file. This article explains what to do: http://wpmu.org/basic-guide-to-creating-a-buddypress-language-file-for-sitewide-label-and-message-editing/

    I like thinking of groups as “categories” myself. If you change them to “categories” or “topics” in the language file, then they can be geographical areas, or guilds, or whatever you want.

    You can remove “groups” from the menu by creating a custom menu in WordPress that doesn’t have a ‘Groups’ tab.

    Normally, users would join the groups themselves by clicking on the “join group” button, but as an admin you can move users around as you want between groups.

    I can’t advise you on the theme for the forum appearance. I’m just going to edit the stylesheet myself to set mine up how I want.

    Yeah, it’s just the bp-default theme and standard code.

    It works totally fine to edit your profile data (it saves OK), but on registration it doesn’t.

    If it’s a multiple-group thing, it *might* have to do with your theme. Are you using a custom theme? What is it? Is it a child of BP default? Can you show us the contents of members/single/profile/edit.php?

    Or perhaps is there a way to use a style sheet from another theme? Like have Buddypress look to another file for it’s layout. It would be great if I could have the functionality of the buddypress theme in my profiles without changing the look of my entire site. I’m not sure if this is even possible but any insight would be great!

    For your sidebar widget issue, @hnla is right: contacting the theme author is probably the best route.

    For the 503 message quoted above, that looks like suspiciously like one I got recently on one of my sites, which turned out to be a setting in the s2member plugin. If you’re using that plugin (and I suspect you are), check the “Unique IP Access Restrictions” setting under “s2member” > “General Options” in your WP backend. If you have that setting set to, say, 5 different IPs per customer, and more that 5 nice folks on this forum try to help you by accessing your test account (from different IPs obviously), the warning will be triggered. If you don’t want that warning to display to your site members who may use several different machines to access your site, you can set it to a higher number or disable it altogether (“Allow Infinite IPs”).

    We can’t see what that file parses and outputs! It looks as though there is no structure?

    So do a number of those function calls describe markup structure? You will need to look at them and edit or copy where necessary; however you shouldn’t really be having an issue? you view the generated output of an index.php or page.php and match that to a buddypress page and ensure that the BP page matches to your themes. What structure does the file above generate? it should match to the other pages in your theme and is the structure that your BP pages need to duplicate.

    You might want to inquire of your hosts support why this is happening as it’s not that desirable on a member login site

    As for the issue this is simply one where you need to get stuck into the CSS it’s the job of the front-end developer to ensure cross browser compat and there are no plugins that will do this for you, as you are a web developer I guess this falls down to you :) however I see you have actually used a pre built theme ‘buddyboss’ so you might want to speak to the authors and see if there’s a fix they can provide.

    “Change .htaccess to increase memory size and redirect to www”

    as i see memory errors down there at the bottom. I’ll google how to adjust my .htaccess file then post back.

    However, that’s running BuddyPress 1.3.

    BuddyPress 1.2.8, which is the current version, does have a couple of small issues that we’ve noticed so far with WordPress 3.2, mainly with javascript in the BP-Default theme. If anyone spots any more, please let us know. We plan a same-day release of 1.2.something with WordPress 3.2 to address these.

    “same content” – if you mean that each user has a portfolio page, or about me page, a contact us page, etc. this can be achieved by creating a custom theme which you can designate as the default theme for each new subsite created by your members.

    @flynn basic troubleshooting – deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to bp-default theme. In all probability, your users can create groups. Then activate plugins one by one and then your custom theme (if any) to see which one causes the group creation hiccup.

    You might start out small. Install BuddyPress and enable just the activity stream; disable everything else. Make sure that the theme css works well with the activity stream. You’ll need to install the BuddyPress template pack. After you are satisfied with the activity stream then change WP install to multi-site. You’ll want to lock it down so that you control creation of blogs – so that you don’t have to deal with splogs. Once you have that working then you can add a few other BP features – private messaging, etc.

    Do you have a link to where you are installing or is this a local test installation?

    This is the process I use for installing fresh copies of WP and BP.

    Install WP
    Change .htaccess to increase memory size and redirect to www
    Login to admin panel
    Set Permalinks
    Go to /wp-admin/plugin-install.php — search for buddypress and install
    Set theme
    Go to /wp-admin/plugin-install.php – search for buddypress template pack
    Install BP pack
    Go to wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-general-settings and save settings
    Go to wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-component-setup and save settings
    Go to wp-admin/admin.php?page=bb-forums-setup and setup forums
    Create Group
    Create Forum
    Create Test post

    Please understand that bbPress, bbPress plugin, bbPress BuddyPress are all different products.

    get_sidebar appears in footer.php for the intrepidity theme https://themes.svn.wordpress.org/intrepidity/1.5.1/footer.php so following the structure of your theme onto the activity/index.php file, you don’t add any get_sidebar calls in the other BP template files

    The default home page for BuddyPress using the bp-default theme is the blog index page like you see at http://testbp.org/

    I created mine by using this service http://www.favicon.cc/ and uploading the .ico file to the root of my site and another copy within my theme folder. Seems to work =)
