ParticipantCould be plugin/theme conflict. Deactivate plugins except BuddyPress and change to bp-default theme, clear cache, does the same thing happen?

ParticipantAdd this to your wp-config.php file
define(‘WP_DEFAULT_THEME’, ‘theme-folder-name’);
from this tutorialAs for changing themes, as long as you activate only your preferred default theme sitewide in Network Admin, the only change they can make is to twentyten which needs to be there just in case.

ParticipantThere are different approaches to what you want to do which includes deciding whether you will allow your users to post from the backend or to post always from the front end. My approach would be to use EventPress plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/eventpress/ along with with http://buddydev.com/plugins/eventpress-gallery/ which requires the premium BP Gallery plugin http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-gallery/ which has images, audio, video galleries. Perhaps others would like to share what their approaches would be.

MemberIt’s similar to the blog section. The user will input information for the tour(description, title, pictures, and videos) and the readers can comment on the tour.
I’ll take a look through the skeleton component. Will I actually be able to build a new page with this though?

aces
ParticipantIt would have been better to start a new thread, but….
bp default theme index.php still has “ in it.
If you copy the index.php from the buddypress parent (ie: http://yoursite.com/wp-content/plugins/bp-themes/bp-default/index.php or your current alternative parent) theme to the child theme then it doesn’t take much creation…..
all you need to do then is the edit suggested by mercime…
Edit
“

MemberSince this is the only thread I can find on the subject . . .
How is this done with the current version of BuddyPress? The default index.php no longer looks much like mercime’s version above, and I quite simply can’t find the right code to tweak.
(Works fine on the individual posts, of course.)
I’m sure it’d be better in a child theme, but the child themes others have created don’t include an index.php, and I’m not much interested in creating my own.

Participantthanks so much, the above approach worked, Am using a child theme created by me, but i copied all the files from bp-default theme and customised it. where can i get the onecolumn-page.php template? am not developer but its only help from people like that push me this far

May 7, 2011 at 2:26 pm #111801In reply to: how to remove the SideBar from registration-page ?
Hugo Ashmore
ParticipantYes and no, you would need to change the body class token body.register is particular to the registration page so you would need to do something like:
`
body.page-id-1215 #content,
body.register div#content {
margin-right:0;
padding:0;
width:100%;
}`
page-id-1215 is the only unique identifier of that page.However this approach isn’t really the best one, it would be better to be using a onecolumn-page.php template that has the sidebar removed as is provided in the bp-default theme then you would select that page template for you terms&conditions page and when 1.3 hits you would do the same for the registration page.

LPH2005
ParticipantThis problem is narrowed to the firing of the add_action within forum-attachments-for-buddypress-bp-functions.php.
A simple function / add_action is loaded in the theme functions.php then it fires on that question.php template. If that sample function/add_action is placed in the forum-attachments-for-buddypress-bp-functions.php file then it does not fire.
This is the test function placed in the themes functions.php that works. Also added to plugin functions file and it fails.
`// Test question.php form hook
function question_fire() {
echo “Testing the hook”;
}
add_action(‘question_after’, ‘question_fire’);`I’m about ready to give up. Google searches are not leading me to an answer. And my knowledge is limited.
Update I hope that didn’t seem negative. I’m at my limit and stretching

OK. So, I know the forum attachment plugin is Boone’s bane … and I love that plugin .. so … press forward.
I tried my test function in another active plugin (akismet) and it worked AND interestingly the test function works in forum-attachments-for-buddypress.php.

Participant@goozleology deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to default theme. If the behavior persists with defaults then post back here.
If the problem is resolved with bp-default and no other plugins except BuddyPress, then you should check which of the plugins or if it’s the theme that’s causing such behavior, then contact plugin/theme author.

nicholmikey
ParticipantJust updating this in case others run into the same problem. I have successfully upgraded while retaining all data using the following steps:
Revert to a non BuddyPress theme
Disable all MU plugins
– Navigate to wp-content/mu-plugins/ file folder
– remove or rename (example example.php.old) all .php files related to BuddyPress, or for plugins that call BuddyPress functionality. Leave these 2 in place :
– Index.php
– bp-core.php
– Test site to ensure you have not removed a needed plugin that is not related to BuddyPress
– Remove or rename bp-core.php
Install BuddyPress 1.0
– copy the unziped BuddyPress folder into the wp-content/plugins/ directory
– Go to the network admin control panel in WordPress
– Activate BuddyPress
– Test site for data retention
Upgrade to the latest BuddyPress
– Go to the BuddyPress plugin on the plugin page
– Click the automatic update button
– Enable the default BuddyPress theme
– Test site for data retention
Upgrade CompleteI have a custom theme to rebuild and some in house plug-ins to fix, I’ll post any important info I run into to help any other souls Google-ing this problem.

KeymasterSorry, I was being unclear. When a newer version of BuddyPress is put in place in /plugins, when you as an admin visit /wp-admin/, it will fire an internal update script. That’s what I was referring to.
I can’t remember how similar 1.0rc to 1.0 was. I have not recently tried to see if it’s possible to upgrade from 1.0 to the latest version, 1.2.8, in one go. On the safe side, I suggest you upgrade to 1.0 first, then: 1.1, 1.2 (new BP-Default theme here — it should switch to the new default theme automatically), 1.2.4.1, 1.2.8.

KeymasterIt’s hard to remove a post and let you see the response, so I’m closing this one. Please refrain from posting any further about this, it’s beginning to look like spam (this is the third post that I’m aware of, in the last few days). Heck, the title of this thread is the sort of thing Google’s going to pick up on, which I know is your intention.
In terms of people selling or advertising premium BuddyPress services on this site, there’s a balance between promoting your plugin in situations such as responding to a relevant topic, i.e. “how can I do x?” and you reply, “my premium plugin z can do that for you!” (which is okay), and outright advertising or spamming (which isn’t). Announcing a new premium plugin or theme is fine, but posting an announcement or advert each week isn’t — that’s spam.
Blatant advertising or spamming is not allowed; BuddyPress.org community support is about community support, it is not a free-for-all marketplace. This isn’t the place for that type of thing.
Specifically regarding your site, there are extra considerations. You appear to be re-selling GPL’d plugins and themes[1] (I have only taken a quick look at your site). As long as you had purchased these GPL’d themes or plugins originally, then you can turn around and give that theme or plugin to anybody you want. The GPL is about redistribution. My understanding is that this viewpoint is entirely correct.
However, I think you’re missing the big picture. It may not be illegal, but I don’t think it’s ethical. The authors of those works which you are profiting from worked hard to create something. By re-selling their works, I believe you are disrespecting those authors and the larger community. To me, it’s as simple as this: if this sort of behaviour discourages even one individual from creating a new BuddyPress plugin or a BuddyPress theme, because they’d like to try to make some money from it, then the community has been harmed by having one less choice.
I feel this threads falls between an announcement of a service and an advertisement for that service, considering your repeated posts, with debatable ethics. I apologise on behalf of our moderator team; we should have got in contact with you after your first post, and we’re sorry that it seemed we were picking on your posts. However, you could have posted another topic and asked what happened to your previous posts; we would have seen it.
I am paul@byotos.com if you would like to discuss further in private, or you’re welcome to start a new topic and start a discussion about the ethics of re-selling GPL plugins/themes, but maybe that sort of discussion would go best on the wordpress.org forums, rather than here, as it would be seen by a larger audience of WordPress plugin and theme authors (relevant, of course, because your site appears to have WP and BP-specific themes listed).
[1] This assumes that everything in those plugins/themes is covered by the GPL, such as images or any other files, as opposed to just the PHP source.

MemberIf you want to help grow the WP AND BP community’s then you can do so by developing and sharing your own plugins or themes.you’re not helping if you rip off others,
it doesn’t mean if it’s GPL that everything should be free.In my opinion all those premium services are helping the grow of WP and BP that’s also a small part why WP has become so popular and if there are more such services for BP then BP will grow as well.if you’re not a developer or designer but still want to help then you can help by donating to people like Paul or Andrea_r.

ParticipantWell wordpress has been upgraded to 3.1 (was 2.9.2), BuddyPress is more or less functioning but we need to upgrade. I am prepared to re-write the theme, but I am concerned about migrating data. Do you think following the 1.0 upgrade directions on a 1.0rc1 version will retain the data? Or do I need to be prepared to extract and map data into the new install?

KeymasterThis is such a huge, complicated issue. I’ve not even tried this myself. BP 1.2’s theme system changed, so you will be reverting back to the new default theme unless you build a new theme. Any specific BuddyPress plugins you are running will almost certainly stop working in some way. You’ve also got several WordPress versions to step through.
What version of WordPress are you using? I’m guessing WPMU 2.7?
May 5, 2011 at 3:23 pm #111638kizinko
ParticipantI took this issue to a buddy of mine and he found the answer. The first thing you need to do is create an anonymous user. Then access your database and find the user_id value for that user. In this example the user_id is 7. You’ll notice in the last step that we are setting the user_id to 7 if no one is logged in.
