In reply to: How to show code in forum posts?
Boone Gorges
KeymasterThe code in the pastebin is exactly what’s running on bp.org, so it definitely works. If there’s a problem, it might be a theme-related conflict.
Make sure that you’re only using backticks, not [ code ]

Participant@zenzard yup, clear as mud. Never used Page Theme plugin. You might want to contact Page Theme plugin author to get it to work with two BP compatible themes. On the other hand, it looks to me that it’ll be much easier and more future-proof to create Page Template/s instead.

MemberI hope I explain this right. The active theme on my site is Detox, which is bp enabled. However, I am using the Page Theme plugin so I can use different themes on different pages. The theme I want to use on two different pages is the Ecolines free theme (https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/eco). So it’s that theme where I want the bar to show up. (live link: http://herppeople.com/herpauctions/).
I have installed the plugin using the corrected file above, and this is the error I get….
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare bp_dtheme_post_update() (previously declared in /home/***MY SITE****/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/ajax.php:113) in /home/*****MY SITE****/public_html/wp-content/themes/Detox/_inc/ajax.php on line 92
So I think the fact that my primary theme, Detox, is bp enabled, is conflicting with the plugin. Clear as mud? LOL!!!!!

That really depends on your theme. If the theme you use uses standard BP-Default theme markup (e.g. a child theme), then Buddyvents will work straight out of the box. There might be some minor CSS issues, but not more than with other plugins that use standard markup (depends on your modifications). The payment is for version 1.x only. Basically, while the plugin version stays at 1.x all updates and support are free. Once the plugin reaches 2.x the plugin will have to be purchased again at half price for existing customers. The readme file, where you can have a look at current/future features for various versions, can be found here:

MemberI dont know how to find out who the owner of the directories is? On the permalinks page I only can change the structure, nothing else. I do not really know what you mean, what I have to do on this page.
I tried to deactive all plugins except Buddypress and activated the Buddypress Default Theme. Same issue with that! I cant believe that this is a server issue, because the avatar pics still exist and it problem came up since I updated…

Participant“The primary theme is buddypress enabled,”
@zenzard – what primary theme? Per your post, you’re using “Ecolines” theme from repo, but I can’t find any such theme there https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/November 2, 2010 at 10:13 am #97219@mercime
Participant1. Build a bp-default child theme – https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
2. Open up style.css file of child theme and override fonts, colors and widths of parent theme elements by adding new styles for said elementsNovember 2, 2010 at 7:09 am #97212In reply to: Avatar no more displayed / Can not be uplodaed

ParticipantThat you cannot upload points more to an issue with server permissions than BP; even with folder permissions set to 777 the right group permissions need to be in place for the server to be allowed to move files around.
Are you sure no other changes were made to the server? nothing like PHP safe mode turned on, are you on a shared host or do you control the server yourself? What have you tried if anything to rectify the issue? probably won’t help but doesn’t hurt to visit the permalinks page just to ensure you flush possible cache, reset those folder permissions, check who the owner of the directories is, ftp, server or the dreaded pcaln.
It’s also probably worth just ensuring this isn’t a plugin issue by disabling all but absolute required and dropping back to default theme.
I don’t think these points will help all that much, but you need to test a few things and rule them out for us. hopefully someone else may have encountered the same issue (I’ve uploaded 1.2.6 twice to production and not had the issue)
Also how did you upgrade? upload via FTP or using the automatic upgrade?

MemberOkay, I’ll try that. I had tried the plugin, but got an error. The primary theme is buddypress enabled, so I thought maybe there was conflict there.

ParticipantTo get a WP theme working with BP, you need to install the BP Template Pack plugin then go through the steps – see BP Template Pack walkthrough https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/
Btw, BP Template Pack plugin needs to be updated for BP 1.2.6 yet, but someone has unofficially updated it at https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/buddypress-template-pack-and-buddypress-1-2-6-things-break-but-i-have-a-solutionNovember 2, 2010 at 12:59 am #97191In reply to: Removing Navigation Bar

ParticipantThis site is not meant for production support; what ‘service’ are you referring to anyway (obviously everyone here is volunters, though mainly enthusiasts).
Your posts aren’t including any technical details around your setup yet you’re expecting a resolution? What version of wordpress? What version of buddypress? What version of php/apache? Multisite enabled? What do you see in your error log? What has recently changed in the environment, plugins, themes, etc?

ParticipantMaking some progress on this…
Default template: http://expeditionrated.com/members/teebes/tracking/
Streamlined template: http://expeditionrated.com/members/teebes/tracking/?ext=tI’m hoping to setup rewrite rules to have use a subdomain approach long term, ie, ext.expeditionrated.com -> url$1?ext=t to avoid the blackbox that is buddypress URLs.
One general question I need some advice on… What’s the best way to have a second set of headers/footers and bundle them with my ‘theme’? Create some functions and call them like any other content?

ParticipantThemes more obviously break things, they are for more obvious if they perform badly, and reflect that much more on WP as a whole would be my guess. I’ve always been of the opinion that they really ought to be vetting plugins as a badly written plugin could have far more serious consequences it would be nice to see a two tier repository where there were approved /recommended /tested plugins and a second general pool but it’s probably a lot of work.
It had crossed my mind to mention the lack of comment tag in pages but sort of thought that it might have been for a reason and that I’d be pointing out the obvious.

ModeratorI posted about it awhile back
This happened on another theme and I added the page.php file but it should be in the default. I forgot about the issue until I just updated a child theme and they rejected again. The last time it happened it took 6 weeks to get the theme finally approved. I guess they were backed up reviewing themes. I may stop using the repo. It takes too long to fix minor things. Why do they have to review themes but not plugins? Never understood this.
