    Hi @glenphillips33,

Anything is possible, what’s unknown is the probability. IIRC, I had a similar experience, but it involved the wordpress.org site and drop-down menu items that affected Chromium on a AlmaLinux distro. Google Chrome worked fine as well as Firefox. On a Ubuntu and Debian distros (Linux), Chromium work just fine, as was with Windows 10. Long story shorter, eventually, the AlmaLinux distro received an update with a new Chromium build that fixed the issue with Drop-down menus.

That said, it doesn’t seem likely for a Windows platform since Google Chrome should be automatically updated and is usually ahead (stable release) of Edge, Opera and other browsers that share the Chromium engine or, maybe you are using cutting edge/beta releases/builds but, as previously mentioned, anything is possible.

If you want to supply the Web URL, I suggest you add that to your BuddyPress Profile, there is a field specific for this purpose (Web URL). That way, you can remove it later, if you don’t want the URL to remain public. I can then either confirm or deny whether I see something unusual while visiting a profile area with Google Chrome.

Next up are a couple of housekeeping items, that you require your attention, of which should not be related to the issue you reported in this thread.

    (1) BuddyPress 12.4.1 is not compatible with WordPress 6.7.x. The effect is that your server error log(s) are filling up with an error notice, e.g.:

Notice: Function _load_textdomain_just_in_time was called <strong>incorrectly</strong>.
Translation loading for the <code>buddypress</code> domain was triggered too early. This is
usually an indicator for some code in the plugin or theme running too early. Translations
should be loaded at the <code>init</code> action or later. Please see <a
    href="https://developer.wordpress.org/advanced-administration/debug/debug
-wordpress/">Debugging in WordPress</a> for more information. (This message was added in
    version 6.7.0.) in /var/www/html/wp_test/wp-includes/functions.php on line 6114

The solution is to either to roll back WordPress to version 6.6.2 or upgrade BuddyPress to version 14.3.3.

    (2) BuddyPress 12.4.1 is missing 2 security patches, if you are going to continue to use the BuddyPress 12.x branch, it is recommended that you upgrade to BuddyPress 12.5.2, see If you are using BP 12.x and can’t upgrade to 14.2.1, and apply (1), accordingly.

    Hello again 🙂

This might start to make sense then!

First, when you translate something within the code itself (not using a translation plugin and po/mo file) it will for the most part be overridden whenever you update your WordPress / plugins that are translated. So, this might be why it doesn’t work now after the update.

I personally use a combination of LocoTranslate and TranslatePress. This is because BuddyPress activity is updated the way it is and for that reason LocoTranslate itself is not able to translate the dynamic content (like when activity updates – without the page doing so) – this TranslatePress supports.

So, for the BuddyPress content that can’t be translated correctly using LocoTranslate, I use the TranslatePress for those. Both plugins are free to use, and it doesn’t require you to purchase any expensive addons.

It’s important that you pick the right placement for your translation-files (custom, author, system). If they’re not in the right place the translation might not show up on the front-end. Also make sure you setup the settings within the LocoTranslate plugin not to override your translated files upon updating WordPress: Loco Translate > Settings > File system access > Modification of installed files & Editing of POT (template) files must be set to Disallow.

For the display name, this should be the default value it sorts by. Mine by default sorts by display name. When you go to Users > Profile Fields – you can edit the different settings from within there with the names and what is mandatory/not mandatory.

For the sorting part (or other features in the future) if it still causes issues, maybe a snippet code using a plugin like WPCode Lite might be a better solution rather than going into the code and edit it from there. In this way it will not get affected in most cases when you update WordPress, plugins and theme.

Maybe some of this can help you – if not – then feel free to keep me updated. 🙂

On second thought… this is within the Buddypress coding, so something that must have changed for WordPress 6.7 is not interacting correclty anymore with Buddypress.

The “Alphabetical” sorting of the user list is sorting on the “Name” base field of bp_xprofile_data table (field 1). This field I had renamed to “Naam” (which is Dutch for Name). This is hardcoded in the database and not avaibable as translation string. After switching back to “Name”, everything worked again. Before, I was allowed to use switch the name of the field. How do you translate this? I now have used a filter function in my functions.php, but it shouldn’t be necessary.

Furthermore I discovered the memberlist is sorting on that particular “Name” field, instead of the “display name” I want to use. Any idea’s how to get the userlist to sort on display name instead of “Name” ? Why do we have a mandatory “Name” field anyway?

Sounds weird, since I’m also using the user fields (xProfile fields) – my site is translated into Danish, but my site-admin back-end it set to English. This is due to it being easier to find items in the menu when troubleshooting (hate when settings and so on is translated lol).

So seems weird to me if the translation part of it is causing the issue, since I’m also using it, but not having the same issue?

Hope you find a solution and it ends up working for you though! 🙂

I managed to locate the issue. After the wordpress update, it was not allowing my translations for the xprofile fields anymore. For some reason it has to be English now, it is no longer allowing it to be Dutch. I’ll flag this with the WordPress development team.

I’ll close the topic as the issue is likely not because of Buddypress but because of WordPress.

How can I resolve./close this topic?

Here’s the translation of your topic:

“Hello, I have installed BP, but I notice that in the user menu, all items appear twice in two languages, Italian and English, even though the installed language of WordPress is only Italian. For example, the menu shows ‘Notification, Notifiche,’ ‘Settings, Impostazioni,’ etc., with each menu item duplicated in two languages. How can I have only one language displayed?”

Thats what I said. Translate 20 emails instead of using the translation file?
Regarding to another post the translation file has the email translations.

    Hello,
I want to have my buddypress emails in my own language. So I followed this tutorial here:

    Languages and Translations

and copied the mo and po files into wp-content / languages/ buddypress.

But the emails still remain in English even after making an email restore. Is it, because I am using the English WordPress version? But my site language is set to my language and the buddypress menus etc are all translated to this except the emails.

Do I have to translate it manually or whats the way to go? Thanks for helping me out!

How would I go about using the Loco Translate plugin? When I go to click Overview on each plugin it keeps saying there is no .pot files or any if that.”No translations found for such and such”.

It sounds like you’ve done a lot of the right things already. Here are a few additional steps you might try:

Check for Conflicting Plugins: Ensure no other plugins are overriding BuddyPress translations.
Clear Caches: Clear any caches that might be affecting the translation display.
Verify Translation File: Double-check that the .po file has the correct translation for “Name” and is properly saved.
Theme Conflict: Make sure your theme isn’t overriding the BuddyPress translations.
If the issue persists, you might want to reach out to the BuddyPress support community for more specific advice.

    Hi !

    https://majbusinessclub.com/
    WP version 6.6.2
    BP version : 14.00.00

I have an issue with translation strings in BuddyPress.

I’m using locotranslate and everything is working fine, all BuddyPress is already translated to French. But for some reason “Name” (in the form profile) isn’t translating, for example translation for Name (required) should be Nom (obligatoire) but appears as : Name (obligatoire).

I have no idea where the issue could be coming from, I tried to resynchronised the .po file but not changing a thing to my problem…

If someone faced the same issue and have advice about what I could try it would be great!

    Thank you for your help

    Thanks @wbcomdesigns and @imath!

I stopped using Loco and created a custom language file. I found most of the strings, but there are still some missing: ‘visit group’ and ‘account settings’ for instance.

Maybe I need to update my Danish translation to latest pot-file? It is only 93% in Polyglot.

Where do I download the latest .pot?

    Thanks again!

    Hi @capexpe

I believe we’ve improved this part actually in 14.0, see https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/13936.

You shouldn’t put your custom language into /wp-content/languages/plugins because it will be replaced by the official translation after it has been updated by the Polyglots team.

Custom language files for BuddyPress should be in one of the locations we are looking for:
    /wp-content/languages/plugins/buddypress
    /wp-content/languages/buddypress
    /wp-content/languages

More informations are available from this documentation page: https://github.com/buddypress/buddypress/blob/master/docs/user/advanced/texts.md

I’ve just tested renaming “Groupes” with “ExpĂ©” in custom fr_FR translation files I’ve included in the /wp-content/languages/plugins/buddypress folder:
    /wp-content/languages/plugins/buddypress/buddypress-fr_FR.po
    /wp-content/languages/plugins/buddypress/buddypress-fr_FR.mo

And it’s behaving the way it should, see screenshot below:
    Screenshot

    @adjunkten
I have no idea how Loco translate deals with translation files, but if you put their generated alternative language files at one of the three locations I listed above making sure they respect the WordPress default way of naming these, it should also fix your issue. Here’s the translated message for the “members-only” login page.

    Hello BP-developers,

I also want to thank you for maintaining and developing Buddypress!
We have been using it for almost 10 years and never had issues when updating to a new version.

Passing to 14.0.0 was different. Thanks for the BP Classic that fixes many issues for us but as Lars we still cannot have the translation working yet.

We used to use the buddypress-fr_FR.mo file to change the by default translation of “groupe” (French word for group) in “ExpĂ©” for expĂ©dition on our site. But changing the buddypress-fr_FR and re-uploading to wp-content/languages/plugins as we were used to do at each update, does not seem to work.

Here is a link to our website with both public and registered users : where the blue button close to the title should be “CrĂ©er une ExpĂ©” instead of “CrĂ©er un groupe” and the other blue buttons next to each group “Rejoindre l’ExpĂ©” instead of “Rejoindre le groupe”.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello BP-developers

Thank you for maintaining and developing Buddypress!

I have an issue with translating some site messages and labels, i.e. ‘members-only area’ + ‘This community area is accessible to logged-in members only.’ , text in buttons like ‘view group’ and some time stamps like ‘a month ago’

I use Loco Translate, and I update the strings, but the translations don’t show.

Here is a link to a group, which redirects to ‘private community’

What I can see is that the group menu option that you picked is pointing some odd post_type=buddypress url, which is wrong, it should simply point to https://yoursite.com/groups (or your translation of the word groups.

You can either try editing that menu item, or create a custom link to that URL. (yoursite, com should be your own site address).

Is that a psychology site you have there?

Adds a retweet functionality to BuddyPress activity streams.

    Main functions:

    Adding a retweet button:

The “Retweet” button is added to each record of activity in the feed. Shows the number of retweets of each entry.

    Creating a new activity:

When you click on the “Retweet” button, a new record is created in the activity feed of the user who retweeted the original post. The original publication is not changed, but a new record appears indicating the author of the original.

    Retweet banner:

The new activity record contains a banner with the original author’s avatar and name, as well as a link to original publication.

    User notifications:

The user receives a notification when their post has been retweeted. The notification contains the name of the user who made the retweet and a link to the new activity record. The author of the post does not receive a notification if he retweeted his own post.

    Retweet counter:

The plugin tracks the number of retweets of each post and displays this information next to the “Retweet” button.

    Styles and scripts:

The plugin includes custom styles for buttons and banners, as well as JavaScript for dynamic interaction with the retweet button.

    Translation support:

The plugin supports translation into other languages, which allows you to localize it for different language audiences.

    Revitek post for BuddyPress

    Advantages of using the plugin:

Increased engagement: Users can easily share interesting posts, which increases engagement on the platform. Convenience: A simple interface allows users to quickly retweet posts without having to copy and paste content. Notifications: Users stay informed when their posts are retweeted, adding motivation to create content. Localization: Translation support allows you to use the plugin in different languages, making it accessible to a global audience. The Revitek post for BuddyPress plugin is a powerful tool for improving user engagement on your BuddyPress platform. With it, users can easily share posts, receive notifications about interactions and enjoy a user-friendly interface.

This is a release version, so I will be grateful for feedback and suggestions.

    Help!

I can’t figure out where to translate the text that appears when waiting for the search result to be displayed in Profile Search Forms.

The text is already translated – but I want a different wording.

I use Loco Translate, but I simply can’t find the text “Henter medlemmer af dit fællesskab. Vent venligst”?

    Where should I look?

    <!– search & filters –>
    <div id=”members-dir-list” class=”members dir-list” data-bp-list=”members”>

This is the first time I have posted this add-on. The idea behind the site that I want to create is topics for discussion among members, for example, discussing a product or service and expressing an opinion about it, jobs, political matters, etc., such as the idea of forums, but this add-on has a groups section. How? I can change the settings so that it is titled Sections instead of Groups
I apologize if there are grammatical errors because I use translation. The following image is for further clarification. Many thanks

Hello everyone. My problem is with the reinstallation of the Buddypress plugin. Let me explain, a few days ago I downloaded buddypress from my wordpress admin panel, everything went well, it launched, I made my settings after installing the French translation of the plugin. Unfortunately, the problem is that it doesn’t integrate well with my blog’s design, since I’d checked “keep current theme” during configuration.

I did some research on the net and discovered the “buddypress template pack” plugin. I installed it and everything, but despite this plugin, buddypress didn’t integrate with my theme. I racked my brains all day and finally decided to uninstall these two plugins.

The next day, I’m still researching my problem, and miraculously I come across a download pack that lets me integrate buddypress with the theme I’m currently using. I test it locally, and it’s perfect. So I start reinstalling buddypress on my online site, but then it’s a disaster: as soon as I click on “activate” buddypress, I get a blank page, no error, nothing, and no access to my dashboard. So I uninstalled it via my ftp and everything worked again. I tried to install it via the dashboard, manually via my ftp but nothing happened. I’ve cleaned up my database, deleted the BP_ files but it’s still the same as soon as I try to reinstall this extension, no access to my site and I don’t understand why, despite all my research I can’t find it.

Sorry for this long-winded post, but does anyone have a solution to my problem?

Just for the record, the first installation worked fine and I haven’t made any changes to my files since.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help 🙂
