I am using WordPress 3.0 and the latest BuddyPress version. When I view the blog directory, I can’t see all of my site’s blogs. The directory page says there are only 39 blogs, when I have well over 150 blogs. Why can’t I see them all?

Hello all,
I am currently using the flexibility theme (2) with WordPress 3.0. I recently installed the BP template manager and buddypress. I wanted buddypress functionality, but with my flexibility theme. When I try to view my own profile, my homepage for the blog loads and not my profile. There are also other features on my website that may be preventing this but I am not sure.
my url is: http://e-turnall.com
Thoughts on this anyone?
Eric
No problems here. PollDaddy works fine with BuddyPress just as it does with regular WordPress blogs based on my own experience.
Install it through the plugin manager, activate and add short-code to widget/post.
What Modemlooper said. It works just as it would with a regular WordPress blog without interacting with BuddyPress in terms of the poll results and functionality.
I’m currently looking for something to handle polls myself. For PollDaddy I simply installed it as a regular plugin, pasted the short-code into a sidebar widget and it works as expected. What it does isn’t changed by BuddPress in any way from what I can tell.
As for Intense Debate, it wouldn’t let me register with my WordPress account so not sure
Have you definitely gone to the ‘Forums Setup’ link and activated/installed bbpress integration, not so much the component setup link/page.
Hey guys,
I’ve been looking at trying to resolve a message composition error (basically, I get “There was an error sending that message, please try again” even though all fields are set correctly – would recommend making errors more descriptive). So I decided to turn on WP_DEBUG to see what the specific issue was…
Am I right in thinking that all of those notices/depreciation messages will be resolved as Buddypress goes in to 1.3? Is it worth me going through and tackling each one?
I’m still stuck with my original problem though… why can’t I send any messages? Note that I’m on a localhost machine… does that play a part?
I am having this exact same problem on a brand new WP/BP site.

Just doing more testing and i am trying to create a group to test and when I do I am able to create group name and description, then I am brought to Avatar upload phase and it fails.
This is the screen 1:
http://i25.tinypic.com/1zogs3k.jpg
This is screen 2:
http://i25.tinypic.com/24lszsj.jpg
It’s a WordPress failure notice that says:
Are you sure you want to do this?
Please try again.
Even if I try again, it comes back to the page:
http://natfriends.com/groups/create/step/group-avatar/
But I can never complete the action.
Should some directory be CHMODed or is this something else that is causing this problem with creation of groups?
Thanks!
Hi hnla,
I am using WP3.0 (a fresh install). I will follow the guide to get multisites via the link you left… really I just want everyone to have a blog if that’s possible and get all the recent entries to show on the home page.
As for the forums… yes I have enabled them in the backend, see screenshot here >> http://i29.tinypic.com/vzebsx.png
I’m wondering if you might have time to register and test this? It’s odd.. the post just disappears into the ether. The site is at http://www.natfriends.com
The profile on the default theme is fine! It’s the other theme I had that made things completely nonsensical (it’s not a BP theme, just a regular theme with a plugin to give BP function… but it’s not good!). It just was terrible. Couldn’t make any sense of anything in user profiles.
I’ve switched to the default theme. It’s not as ‘pretty’ as my other theme that I had, but it sure makes a lot more sense. I am not yet at the stage of themeing.. this is my first run at using BuddyPress… so I’m learning all of it on the fly (like most people who come here I guess).
If I could just get the forum posts to work, I’d be set….
Thanks so much for the help!
If you’re using /installed WP 3.0 that now combines single site and mutli site (blogs) in the one package however you do have to perform some manual file adjustments to enable multisite functionality in the backend from where you then follow the instructions to complete installation.
You can follow this guide to setting up multi sites:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
As for BP forums have you enabled them in the backend? if you look in the dashboard at the BP section menu links you will see a link to ‘Forums Setup’.
Profiles is perhaps more a question of personal taste? I personally wouldn’t say that the profile of the default theme is particularly unintuitive, but that isn’t to say there isn’t room for improvement; obviously one can re-configure it somewhat if one uses a child theme and copies the files over to work on; also thre are a few newish plugins to add things like ‘User Stats’ and or ‘Follwers/Follwing’
Hi!
Just spending a lot of time trying to get my BP powered site up and fitted with the functionality I need.
I have been going through the plugins and some screenshots of the admin I see are quite different to my installation. I was wondering, do I need to start from scratch and install WPMU to get blogs for all my members? I
I really love the way that the user profiles look here at the BP.org site. Things make sense… in my current site I’m rather confused. Not sure if this is because of the template I am using? I can’t get the bbPress forums to work at all. I am struggling a bit. Granted this is my first go at using BP, so I am thirsty to learn all I can.
So my questions are:
1.) How do I get blogs for all my members?
2.) How can I get a forum similar to the one here at BuddyPress.org
3.) How can I get more intuitive user profile pages?
Thanks!
There appears to be a missing edit_post_link() call in the post template (/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/single.php).
Thanks for the heads up! Creating a bug report for this.
I really just want a forum with categories. It seems that in the native BP settings you have to create a Group first, which then gets its own forum? Is this correct?
Yes, you have to create a group first. Think of Facebook’s fan page / group discussions page. That’s what it is modeled after (I believe!).
If you want a forum with categories, I would suggest installing a WordPress forum plugin like Simple:Press or Mingle Forum.
If you’re comfortable working with another forum script, you can try installing the standalone version of bbPress and integrating WordPress and bbPress together. I list this as another option.

Or, how do I get something similar to what BuddyPress.org has? I notice that at the bottom of the forum topic listing, it says: “You will auto join this group when you start a new topic.” How did u get that functionality?
The auto-joining is default with BuddyPress. When you’re logged in and you are on a forum post that you are not a group member of, that message will be displayed. Visit the test install of BP – http://testbp.org – for an example.
There is a learning curve. I recommend you start reading up and getting involved in BuddyPress and WordPress forums. Remember Google/search is your friend.

I am a complete novice to both Buddypress and WordPress. Neither me nor my friends are skilled in web site development. I am an R&D analyst creating financial products. I am also an amature graphic artist. Of our group of friends, I was chosen for this task because I am the least unskilled. I have built an HTML web site before. Bluehost is hosting our domain, lolfriends.net and they have installed both WordPress and Buddypress. I have set up a partially completed html based web site there and the WP/BP is loaded into a subfolder. My hope has been to link that site to the WP/BP portion of the site where a visitor would have to sign in before they could comment or otherwise engage in dialog with the members,
WP/BP has been installed for a week. I just look at it> I have no idea what must be done first. Set up login criteria, create a page -but what whould be on it? How do I control what is on the page or where it is displayed on a page. How can I control the page size or the background color or the number of columns on the page? How do I place phots on a page and put an opportunity to place a caption and comment with them.
At some future time we would like to place ads for local small business on our site so that we can support our neighbors. How do I do that?
Mostly I just need help in knowing what to do to get started and the order in which those tasks must be done. I have read portions of the Codex (there are a lot of pages there). It didn’t tell me an order of tasks or how to make the pages look like the rest of my site. I did learn that PHP is dramatically different from HTML and that what little I though I knew is worthless.
Can anyone give me some suggestions on how I can get going with this? What should I do first. Right now I am afraid to do anything for frear that it will turn out that I should have set something else up first. My friends are depending on me. I don’t want to let them down. Thank you for any help you can give.
@ronio, I wish
But no, it’s not possible yet. There are developer/s who might be rolling out plugin/s for BP in different multisites but probably not until after BP 1.3 stable is out.
ok, i have wordpress 3.0 and buddypress 1.2.5
i can activate the plugin, but firts the “event” tab, does’t appear, i fixed this with the code of the page 2.
later, the options in the profile don’t show.
so i read i found this.
in the line 278 of bp-events.php said:
add_action( ‘plugins_loaded’, ‘events_setup_nav’ );
add_action( ‘admin_menu’, ‘events_setup_nav’ );
ADD THIS in the last line:
add_action( ‘bp_setup_nav’, ‘events_setup_nav’ );
BUT when i go to “my events” or “invite” or “create an event” the page goes to the home.
any ideas?
Hello ppl ,
I have searched this community for this problem got lots of ppl who are facing same problem but didn’t got any answer. We must be doing very stupid because most of you have already implemented it. Even this community has implemented it.
I have created my site with WordPress + buddy press kept a registration page now when a new user is registered user should get a confirmation mail at his mailID so that when he confirms then only he is able to login.
Now my problem is the site i have created is not sending any confirmation mails and hence new user is not able to confirm himself resulting into being not able to log In.
Please help me…most of the guys have already implemented this..so please tell me where m wrong…
Shouldn’t this be possible if Buddypress is not network activated but just plain activated ?
ok finally got it working, only problem now is my activity feed…
when I try to post an update on it it says, There was a problem posting your update, please try again.
After installing wordpress 3.0 and installing buddypress, after logging out and logging back into my admin panel, im getting white pages… nothing works on the backend unless I rename or move the buddypress directory inside my ftp.
however the front end of the site seems to work smoothy… any suggestions here?
Hi Work,
I am using WordPress Version 3.0 and BuddyPress 1.2.5.2 at the moment.
This method works like a charm.
Lovely and thank you for the assistance
@alanchrishughes
Haha! Thanks for keeping the discussion in this thread.
Integrating bbPress with WordPress is not easy. In fact, it can be a real pain. I have not tried integrating bbP and WP since BuddyPress offered a different solution — group forums.
That being said, have you seen this article? More than likely it is out of date with WordPress 3.0, but I suggest posting a comment in that article and see if @theeasybutton can offer you any additional insights.
