All you do is unzip the theme, then copy it into your /wp-content/themes/ folder and activate it in WordPress. Very easy. You can play with it by editing the files, and activate the default theme if you make a mess.
Outstanding. You are a lifesaver. i wish i had more experience with php, and especially wordpress. Thanks so much!
I have not looked at your pasted code. But you are correct in stating that bp-custom.php loads prior to the accessory core BP files. I’d suggest the following tweaks:
remove_action( ‘bp_setup_nav’, ‘friends_setup_nav’, 5);
add_action( ‘bp_setup_nav’, ‘my_friends_setup_nav’);
Basically, hooks are defaulted to a priority of 10. So, you want to make sure that friends_setup_nav is removed before your custom my_friends_setup_nav() is added.
This is just a quick stab at guessing the proper hook firing sequence. So, if this does not work, I suggest installing my WordPress Hook Sniffer plugin.
The fact that you are using WP 2.9.2 means that you are in luck. WP 2.9.1 is the minimum required version of solo-blog WP (single site) that will run BuddyPress. If you do not need to offer your client multiple blogs (or more precisely, if you think that your client will never need to offer their employees and departments blogs), then you can stick with the solo-blog version of WordPress.
As far as setting up departmental pages, I would think that BuddyPress groups would be the perfect fit. But, if each department will need their own blog, then you will have to go the WP multisite route (a.k.a. WordPress Mu.)
@ronia, yes, the latest version is 1.2.5, as far as I know, and 1.3 will officially support WP 3.0. So if you upgrade you have nothing to worry about. My problem is that I want to stay on BP 1.1.3, trying to get that to work on 3.0.
The key to solve that is here. Putting this in bp-custom.php worked for me:
define( ‘BP_AVATAR_URL’, ‘http://’ . $_SERVER . ‘/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files’ );
define( ‘BP_AVATAR_UPLOAD_PATH’, $_SERVER . ‘/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files’);
Still have to copy more avatar code from 1.2.5 to get everything to work in 1.1.3…
Hi,
I installed wordpress 3.0 with multisite functionality.
After installing buddypress and activating the default theme I checked the site and did not see an option where visitors can register.
The url is: http://www.nomoblisscity.nl
Did I miss a setting in Buddypress or something else?
Okay. I think my plugin is complete now. You will be able to do the following things with this plugin:
1. Only logged in users will be allowed to browse the contents of the buddypress enabled wordpress installation. Non-logged in users will be re-directed to Homepage of the websites where login and register options will be available.
2. Now if your user is logged in and he clicks on HOME tab or any link to homepage, he will be redirected to his / her profile page. This option is good for those who have static HomePage like I am having.
I have installed this plugin on my website and testing at MyCampus.Cz.CC.
Kindly help in testing it.
In your case, you could do this [?php wp_page_menu( ‘sort_column=ID&exclude=2,25,253’ ); ?]
More info at https://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/wp_page_menu
@jpsbhullar if you want the site content to be seen by registered members only, then you could use either of these plugins https://buddypress.org/community/groups/s2member/ or https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/registered-users-only-2/
– there are also other methods, just input “members only” in Search form above.
I did option A, and that worked for not listing the page in the nav bar, but it did re-order the pages alphabetically, rather than in order from lowest to highest page ID. Any ideas on how I can get this to be correctly ordered in the nav bar by page ID, rather than alphabetically?
At least two simple ways to get back control of your pages (change brackets to curlies in codes below):
A. delete [?php dp_list_pages(); ?] and replace it with [?php wp_page_menu( ‘exclude=5,53,75’ ); ?] in your header.php
then delete block of code in functions.php from # Displays a list of pages to ending curly of that block (just before you reach # Displays a list of categories)
B. If you’re on WP 3.0, you could add wp 3.0 custom navigation menus
– replace [? php dp_list_pages(); ?] in header php and the block of code in functions.php mentioned in A with info per this article
Heads up! my themes numbers correspond with the BP version. So that theme needs to be updated to 1.2.5.
It’s should still function though. You have to create a page and choose a page template to add widgets to columns.
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/367781
Post header.php and functions.php at http://wordpress.pastebin.com and place URL here. Methinks it’s customization of navigation links by theme author that’s preventing you from excluding pages.

Then see avatar icon of same ‘roses’ in []
Have you any link of latest BP and latest WP 3 that has got the things working alright ?
Do you have a link to your site I can see?
Can someone come up with some clue or dirty fix ?
Is there any demo site that has WordPress 3 multiuser bloggers along with latest Buddypress ?
Settings set to sync and latest stable BP.
BP Avatars or images uploaded by bloggers not seen in wordpress blog posts and/or blog comments.
We are newly forming youth sports organization trying out BuddyPress. BuddyPress looks like what we are looking for or kids and their families and coaches. Site is http://www.teamrush.org. WordPress 3.0 with BuddyPress Version 1.2.5 and latest updates are installed and activated. Not sure if BuddyPress is functioning. On BuddyPress Component Setup page, all components are enabled. Problems observed include:
1. Once members complete sign up, they still cannot login.
2. Admin cannot delete members, fatal error received when trying to do so.
3. When members page is selected, only member visible is admin; however, there are 3 others have created member accounts.
Any help or suggestions is appreciated.
I have tried to figure this out at other places, but nobody has a clue so I thought I would try here. I usually find answers here, you guys know your stuff. Anyway, here is the issue:
I am trying to exclude a page in the nav menu on my site. I am using the Mensa Theme, and the
Method is not working. Any ideas?
Here is some code from:
header.php
<!-- BEGIN header -->
<div id="header">
<div class="search">
<form action="/">
<input type="text" name="s" id="s" value="" />
<button type="submit">S</button>
</form>
</div>
<div class="logo">
<h1><a href=""></a></h1>
</div>
<ul>
<li><a href="">Home</a></li>
</ul>
<div class="break"></div>
</div>
<!-- END header -->
functions.php
# Displays a list of pages
function dp_list_pages() {
global $wpdb;
$querystr = "SELECT $wpdb->posts.ID, $wpdb->posts.post_title FROM $wpdb->posts WHERE $wpdb->posts.post_status = 'publish' AND $wpdb->posts.post_type = 'page' ORDER BY $wpdb->posts.ID ASC";
$pageposts = $wpdb->get_results($querystr, OBJECT);
if ($pageposts) {
foreach ($pageposts as $post) {
?><li><a href="ID); ?>">post_title; ?></a></li><?php
}
}
}
Read this blog entry and try out the function mentioned in the article:

Props to Boone for pointing me to that blog article awhile ago.
I’m trying to run a Buddypress 1.1.3-based custom theme on WordPress 3.0. Most things work fine. The main problem is avatar upload. I’ve already made lots of progress copying bits of code from BP 1.2.5.
Apparently a big difference between wpmu and WordPress 3.0 is where avatars are stored. This code in bp-core-cssjs.php….:
$bp->avatar_admin->image->dir
…produces a warning:
Warning: getimagesize(/group-avatars/1/mypicture.jpg) [function.getimagesize]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /serverpath/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-cssjs.php on line 93
The picture actually ended up here, already cropped and with a weird filename:
/serverpath/wp-content/uploads/avatars/1/50d01bc0b08ffcbea47ce388c34cfc63-bpfull.jpg
Which settings decide where avatars are uploaded to? Can I edit them somewhere in the database to make sure?
Which functions decide how the picture is uploaded? Is the coded name a WordPress 3.0 thing?
Edit: I see get_option( ‘upload_path’ ); where is upload_path set? In a clean install of 1.2.5 + 3.0 it’s in database table wp-options. On my upgraded 1.1.3 based sites it’s in wp_1_options etc. -> there is no wp-options. Is that the problem? Should I create one?
