@thekmen so do you have this theme working with the new version of bp 1.4.5 and 3.0? I have been using your version of mystique for awhile now and have had to make adjustments to other plugins theme files but other than that it seems to be working good…. though I still seem to have the iusse I had on the activity page where the footer was not put in place right in which data started to over lap. in my case now I seem to have an hr line at the bottom of the page that over laps the main container.

    Locking thread.

@queertoday – BP-FBConnect, as Jeff has stated, is an old plugin. The FB plugin that is even recommended by BP is WP-FB-AutoConnect.

Unfortunately, there are some things that are not added out of the box like FB avatars. However in the comments section of the plugin author’s page (located at the bottom), there is some code you can use to add that functionality.

Confused : I am using the current WordPress 3 and the most current Buddypress. I have been using WordPress as WordPress MU.
Users who have uploaded their own image cannot get to show these in the blogs. Buddypress shows personal images but in WordPress blogs Gravatars are displayed. Please help!!!

Hello, I have a client using WordPress that wishes to have a member directory. They are an organization of professionals and so they wish to have a section on the front end of their site that lists all active organization members. Some of the features include:

    Front-end:

    – Membership application form
    – Searchable, sortable paginated list of members
    – Member profile pages
    – Interface for members to edit their profiles

    Back-end:

    – List view of members (sortable, searchable, paginated)
    – Approve/deny interface for newly submitted applications
    – PayPal integration for yearly membership fees

So, basically I’m wondering if BuddyPress is an acceptable solution for this. We would want to hide/disable a signification portion of BuddyPress’s features, such as groups, forums, and private messaging.

Is it common to harness the power of BuddyPress for only some of its features or is it really only designed to be implemented as a full social networking solution a la facebook? If anyone could offer me some insight into this I would be appreciated! Thank you.

    Hi,

i’m using buddypress to create a lightweight crm application.
Company information goes into the default field group and management info goes into the extended group.

The problem, usually each company has more than one manager. So I need more than one management extended field group.

The question, can buddypress be adapted to provide more then one extended field group that have the same field names?

    For example;
the default field group “Company” has the fieldnames companyname, address, telephone, ect.
The extended field group “Management” has the fieldnames firstname, name, email, gender, ect
a second extended field group “Management” has the fieldnames firstname, name, email, gender, ect
a third extended field group “Management” has the fieldnames firstname, name, email, gender, ect

I have a csv file exported from my offline crm software and it’s conformed to the custom fields that I’ve created in buddypress. With key values and everything.
I’ve manually added a second extended profile in the mysql table with the same user ID and it only shows the second(latest) extended profile data, but not both extended profiles.

furthermore, i’ve opened the file profile-loop.php in dreamweaver, but i have no idea what to alter in order for this to work.

I’m using wordpress version 9.2 and buddypress version 1.2.5, can someone please point me in the right direction?

    thank you

@Jalien, gradebook should be ready in a week or so. The idea is to use BuddyPress forums as a platform for students solutions postings, and implement a grading system above it. All the data later will be pulled into main Courseware dashboard.

A testing version is available now, but it has no gradebook so far, and will require UI/UX work. A final version is scheduled at the end of my gsoc period, which is end of this summer.

Basically the API approach I’m using is the same as in WordPress: Actions and Filters. The component will be full of hooks so extending it should be a snap.

Here’s the initial list of features: http://gsoc2010.wordpress.com/stas-suscov-academic-suite/

@LPH2005 The code on svn works and allows creating courses, adding assignments and bibliographies to it. Untill monday there will schedules support too.
People ask how can they install and test…

@Paul Gibbs Would that be a pretty big project to create the option for a standard forum? I would help but I don’t know anything about programming.

I tried something new last night though, I installed wordpress/buddypress on the same database as a separate bbpress installation, and then followed the bbpress instructions as much as I could to integrate it with wordpress

    https://bbpress.org/documentation/integration-with-wordpress/

It said it was successfully integrated, but then signing into one or the other doesn’t sign me in to the other and doesn’t seem integrated at all. And I don’t know if it is a WordPress 3 problem but there was no “Secret” field in the WordPress options to enter in the bbpress integration.

“Getting premium and other theme developers on board with BP is the only way it will reach the level of success BP deserves. “

One premium theme shop currently selling WordPress themes outright is alreayd on board with BP themes. Another is right behind.

Sounds cool, @lincme. I’m not 100% confident that the theme gallery on this site is updating properly so if, once it’s on the wordpress site, it doesn’t appear on here, get in contact with me and I’ll prod the necessary people ;)

Forums are not going to be detached from Groups. I expect that in future releases, that Groups will be able to contain multiple Forums. Some things to bear in mind:

    1) If people don’t contribute to the code, it isn’t going to happen.
    2) Expect this to happen after bbPress has been rewritten as a WordPress Plugin (part of what the Automattic crew are calling their “3.org” project). More news on this soon.

Everything has its own learning curve. There’s currently a couple of issues on WordPress 3.0 installs, but we’re working on those. Everything else is and should work fine, though that’s not to say improvements can be made in future releases.

I think you thought BuddyPress+WordPress would do things that it doesn’t, and that’s unfair to blame BuddyPress for not matching your expectations.

“ajaxurl” is set as a global reference for the AJAX path for all? WordPress plugins.
The bp-like CSS classes sound as if they belong to the BuddyPress Like plugin, so either they need to be there or the programmer’s got them to load on every page.
_wpcf7 is from Contact Form 7.
#header sets the page header image which is why it’s loaded dynamically like this.
I’m not sure if the “Are you sure” prompt is from WordPress or BuddyPress, but the reason it’s there is that it’s the sensible of localising the words “Are you sure” on multi language installs (because we can’t load text strings from language files in Javascript).

You actually can give each person their own blog. You just have to use what was previously called WordPress MU (now called Multisite and comes with WordPress 3.0). There’s some extra configuration, but it’s definitely possible.

There’s definitely more configuration with BuddyPress and WordPress MU than Ning, but there’s also more ability to customize as well.

You can backup individual tables if you want but it is a wiser move to back up your entire DB. Since BuddyPress relies on user data that is stored in WordPress tables, it is not a good idea to just back up BP tables.

Here are some basic instructions in the WordPress Codex.

Which versions of WordPress and BuddyPress are you running? This plugin has not been updated for 9 months, https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-fbconnect/

You should contact @apeatling, the author, and ask him if he plans on updating his plugin.

Have you integrated bbPress with WordPress? Or have you just installed WP for the first time? To share logins with WordPress ( BuddyPress does not handle logins. That is WP’s role), bbPress needs to be configured with what is termed deep integration. This is not a simple task.

Below are some links with more details. Read the first link to decide if you truly need bbPress configured in this way. Perhaps the way BuddyPress uses bbPress (providing group-based forums instead of one, overall site-wide forum) might be acceptable for your site. If so, then you’ll have a much easier time.

    https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-discussions/buddypress-forum/

Deep Integration (I have no idea if this information is still accurate for WP 3.0):

@LPH2005 Sorry, I completely forgot to say thanks the other day. I’ll have a look at what you did. Hopefully I can get rid of moodle and use WordPress / Buddypress for everything. Moodle is such a pain to customize and even then it still looks like moodle.

I got it working – all i needed was for users to be allowed to contribute to the main blog really. Though, ning of course lets each person have their own blog and section of the site. I think I was duped into thinking buddypress was going to be a great solution to move from ning too, but it’s clearly not fully functional nor easy to use.

That said, I like wordpress. So I might try to make it work.

It looks like you didn’t follow the instructions listed under “Update Rewrite Rules”:

@Travel-Junkie: Your code below works great for WordPress 3 and Buddypress but not for multisite sub blogs? I need to stop access to sub blogs as well if users are not logged in. If i type in the url of my sub blogs then they show up. Is there anyway to stop this?

    Hello,

I’m trying to upgrade buddypress 1.2.4.1 to 1.2.5, I’m using wordpress 3.0 (multisite enabled) and multidb (version 3.0) from wpmudev, using latest apache and latest mysql, but buddypress 1.2.5 failed to be upgraded!

After upgrade to buddypress 1.2.5, suddenly, the admin backend show the message that I need to update the sites in yellow highlight at the very top (click on this result in something malform cannot be connect to db, something of this sort – I don’t remember exact error phrase I saw), buddypress failed to appear when clicked on the network (1) link that showed activated network plugin. The admin backend also acted weirdly and nothing worked as it supposed to!

I played by the play-book by disabled all plugins, and disabled buddypress, rm -rf /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/ and then mv /buddypress.1.2.5/buddypress/ to /wp-content/plugins/, go back and network activated buddypress, then the problem above happened!

Also, you can take a look at this link here http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/buddypress-125-is-compatible-to-all-buddypress-plugins-here where I described the same problem, I may figure out there first, and so if anyone has the same problem can look it up to solve theirs, but if you have (anyone) an answer to this, please help me out!

    Thanks!

If you’re using WPMU or WP 3.0 in network mode, try this:
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-registration-options/

The plugin author hasn’t updated this for single WP yet.

A more, manual method involves forwarding the activation emails to an admin account so you can approve them manually that way.

Put this sample code in your theme’s functions.php:
    http://wordpress.pastebin.com/Qf2cskRj

Replace “get_site_option( “admin_email” );” with a custom email address if you don’t want it to forward to your admin email addy.

Is using the “Absolute Privacy” wordpress plugin the only way to do this? (http://www.johnkolbert.com/project/absolute-privacy/)

I recommend that you use W3 Total Cache; specifically, it’s minify option.
