Hiya! I filed a trac ticket for this already, but it;d be nice to get some feedback.
IF you are running WordPress 3.0 (network enabled or otherwise, shouldn’t matter) and you woudl like to test the TwentyTen child theme for BuddyPress, download is here:
http://freebpthemes.com/themes/twentyten-for-buddypress/
You must be running 3.0.
you must have the twentyten theme.
If I forget this thread is here, holler at me on twitter. Same username.
I’m not sure if this is a good solution, but it works for me until a fix is released. I installed the “Page Links To” plugin (http://txfx.net/code/wordpress/page-links-to/), created a new page called “Activity Temp”, and have it redirect to the Activity Stream. I set the temporary page as a child of another page so it doesn’t show up in the main navigation bar.
I am building a site with custom profile display. I want to display some content (WordPress posts) only if the current profile (on which it is being displayed) is that of a friend. In other words, if the viewer is not my friend, they shouldn’t see posts I published.
I am assuming an if, else loop would do, but I don’t know the bp function for checking if the owner of current profile is my friend.
Perplexing? lots of back slapping
on that link announcement yet 1.2.4 does not work particularly well with 3.0 or particularly badly (to be fair) Why? not necessarily criticizing just rather bemused by BP development and testing.
Yes, I’m on a production site. I’m guessing this won’t take long to fix though right? I can re-upload 2.9.2 but really don’t want to mess with the database.
I can wait, my site’s not all that popular anyways. And at least it’s still functional for the most part.
Not unless you want to backtrack to WP(MU) 2.9.2… make sure you can revert to your DB backup and filesystem.
I say just wait for a fix unless you’re on a production site.
just taken from the dev meeting logs and 1.2.4 announcement (https://buddypress.org/2010/05/buddypress-1-2-4/)
“This highly anticipated version provides fixes to 74 reported tickets and adds improved support for WordPress 3.0 to help ensure a safe and worry free upgrade.”
Thanks, anyway to rollback in the interim?
So it was supposed to be ready? Very interesting. We’ll there’s at least two of us who know the truth about that statement. It’s too bad. I just started with BuddyPress and with so much attention I expected to see something a little more polished. Am I expecting too much given it’s maturity? I’ll have to evaluate that question a little closer.
I just upgraded to the latest WP. After doing so I get page not found for my home page (which is set as activity stream). Also happens if I change the home page to the blog page. Other pages seem to be working fine however.
Any ideas how to fix the home page?
This is in local testing finding a code solution but thanks for the response.
(…and technically 1.2.4.1 was suppose to be WP 3.0 ready while BP1.3 dependent on features of WP3.0 )
I’d recommend not using Twire.
Try Tweetstream instead:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tweetstream/
I’ve got something to help you out.
Wait until BuddyPress is 3.0 compatible.
I actually thought it would be out of the gate considering the time frame of the WordPress 3.0 development and the popularity of BuddyPress.
I just tried an upgrade and it was a failure to say the least. One of the issues is what your encountering.
HELP!!!
I have no wordpress site once I updated!!!! OMG… what do I do?
http://www/shuswapsocialnetwork.com
I was updating my plug-ins.. and automatically clicked the update buddypress AND THEN saw.. don’t update until you read this notification!!!.. Dang it was too late and now I don’t have a site at all!!!
eeeeeeeeeek!
nevermind – adding that will cause all 404 pages to default to the activity stream
fixed with buddypress v1.2.5 release
Hello,
I’m a huge noob to the buddypress system so I feel like this error is an easy fix, but I may be missing something. Anyway, I am using the theme Unplugged 1.0.0 and have the buddypress plugin installed in my wordpress. When ever I try to create a new account by clicking the link on the front page it takes me to the register page but it gives me a 403 forbidden error with “You tried to access a document for which you don’t have privileges.” below it. I’ve tried enabling the option so that anyone can register and Ive looked through the buddy press admin option, is there something I am missing?
@r-a-y thanks for this and I have seen this code before and tried it several times but I cant get it to work…I know its me….Im just not putting it in the right place on the functions.php page. Ive put it at the very start of the page. For example:
function sh_walled_garden()
{
global $bp;
if( bp_is_register_page() || bp_is_activation_page() )
return;
if( ! bp_is_blog_page() && ! is_user_logged_in() )
bp_core_redirect( $bp->root_domain .’/’. BP_REGISTER_SLUG );
}
add_action( ‘get_header’, ‘sh_walled_garden’ );
/* Stop the theme from killing WordPress if BuddyPress is not enabled. */
if ( !class_exists( ‘BP_Core_User’ ) )
return false;
/* Register the widget columns */
register_sidebars( 1,
array(
‘name’ => ‘Sidebar’,
‘before_widget’ => ‘
‘,
‘after_widget’ => ‘
‘,
‘before_title’ => ‘
‘
blah blah……….
Is that correct? Because when I do this I get an error reading.
I just need to know “exactly” where to put it on the page. For example put it between “x” and “y”.
Thanks for getting back to me promptly though…appreciate it.

Hi @simoncreative, just one recommendation.
Have you thought about installing a cache plugin, you don’t have one yet, do you?.
I’ve tried W3 TOTAL CACHE https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/w3-total-cache/ and WP SUPER CACHE https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/. Here you have some WordPress Cache Plugin Benchmarks http://cd34.com/blog/scalability/wordpress-cache-plugin-benchmarks/ to select for yourself. W3 TOTAL CACHE has a complete JS/CSS minify system and helps you to work with CDNs, but maybe its more difficult to use.
But that’s not all, you always can find out what you have to improve with Yslow, PageSpeed, Firebug firefox addons.
One of this “Improvements” will be “Add expire headers”, my friend AD7six has made up a simple .htaccess that will resolve this problem http://gist.github.com/440336 (here is the conversation on Vladimir Prelova blog http://www.prelovac.com/vladimir/improve-website-yslow-performance-grade-in-a-blink-of-an-eye ).
I think this might be helpful for all.
By, and great work!!
If your site relies on Groups, you can try out the BP Group Documents plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-documents/
Using this plugin, your users can upload documents to a group. You can set the plugin to upload certain file extensions like .ZIP or whatever.
i think a really great plugin would be one to integrate BigBlueButton with WordPress, and specifically with Buddypress. Then, as mentioned above, individual users or Buddypress groups could be easily invited to sessions. The api for integration is here:
http://code.google.com/p/bigbluebutton/wiki/API
and the main site is here:

Probably I posted in the wrong forum and got no response, so re-posting here please.
**Filters at Favorit and other tabs do NOT obey filter **
I choose a Forum Topic and an @myname mention as Favorit.
Now I clicked the Favorit tab (No filter) – things show okay
Now I clicked ‘Show New Group’ filter.
Expected : “Sorry, there was no activity found. Please try a different filter.”
BUT it still continues to show the favorits.
Any way to hide the filter when the tabs are Favorit / Following so that it makes some sense as the filter is currently non-working?
The same problem happens here also. It is demonstratable in this buddypress.org filters.
** “Following” widget, when activated in sidebar of a wordpress mu blog shows wrong following.**
For example, when blog writer A sees his own blog he sees that he is following X, Y, Z
It is expected that when blog writer B visit A’s blog he will see the same as above but B sees what he is following in A’s sidebar.
MOREOVER, the sidebar widget lists the avatars/photos serially instead of a grid (for example 5×5 grid, configurable) – this makes the widget unusable because of a very long scroll. It also lacks a ‘more’ link when needed. On hover over the photos/avatars it does not show names but just ‘member avatar’.
