ParticipantHi,
So is the only way to do it is to get my developer to write code and update the plugin
Afaik, yes! It is the case for any open source software as soon as it is no more maintained.
If not already done, read here
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/fails-with-bp-2-7/An alternative would be https://github.com/dcavins/hierarchical-groups-for-bp

Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterThe situation is BuddyPress is incompatible with PHP 7.1 as things stand. One issue means a fix in BuddyPress (which we’ve already fixed, and will have out in a release soon, but probably after Christmas), and the other issue I’ve found (which BP sites have a realistic site of running into) require a fix in WordPress, which I hope that team will get done for WP 4.7.1.

ParticipantHi,
It would be interesting to know why [your] developer told [you] that [your] site will not be able to manage more than 70,000 users.
Why precisely 70,000 ?
As @venutius already told you, there is no physical limit. And if you have the necessary cash to buy storage and bandwith, go ahead!
A common example for a large site running BuddyPress, is profiles.wordpress.org mentioned by lead dev John James Jacoby (in 2012). It is still the case in 2016.

ParticipantThanks for the reply.
BuddyPress + WordPress will work well when there are 500,000 users?
It is important to know before, otherwise I see already now an alternative route.
What important customizations you talking about? I’ve already been working on reducing CPU consumption etc.

danbp
ParticipantSorry, but you’re on a very specific wordpress plugin support. It is not the place for such basic question (what are the short codes). BuddyPress doesn’t provide shortcodes.
This plugin is not common, and not the most easiest to use. The forum is maintained by volonteers, and unfortunately not by profesional teachers. If you are very new to BuddyPress, and apparently to WordPress too, you have to do your homework.
You can get starter information on both codex. For BuddyPress you get access to appropriate documentation via the above menu bar.
For WordPress, and specifically your question, click here.
Thank you for your understanding.
December 17, 2016 at 9:18 am #262210In reply to: Repeatable Field groups required
danbp
ParticipantIf you create a field group called Business Details, you simply add as many fields you want!
Let’s say, you want that users can fill about 5 companies or society. In this case, you need to create a field for each input, in other words 5 fields. And if you need more details for each, you add the fields you need, one by one:Business 1: [___]
Address 1: [___]
Office 1 hours: [___]
Business 2: [___]
Address 2: [___]
Office 2 hours: [___]
Or if you use a lot of details, you group each businness separately.
For better clarity of the default profile details output, when you have a lot of information to display, is to use this very handy plugin: buddypress-profile-tabs

PatrickDecember 17, 2016 at 5:29 am #262205In reply to: Hide buddypress members details from search engines
metalhead
ParticipantYes, my BP brothers, there’s a plugin called BP Simple Private and I think it will solve your problems, without having to work with robots.txt
Prior to using BP Simple Private, my site’s member pages were way too accessible.. You could type http://mysite.com/members <- and you’d see the whole members directory.
Prior to using BP Simple Private, you could type http://mysite.com/members/aaronthomas1979, and you’d jump straight to my profile.
With this plugin, people (or search engine bots,) will be redirected to a page of your choosing, and the member pages will not be displayed.
If you already have the issue of member pages being displayed in search results, there’s nothing you can do to immediately fix that, but make the change (get the plugin) and wait for those bots to crawl your site again, but next time, they won’t find those pages.
It works for me..

ModeratorHave you tried switching momentarily to a WP theme, like 2016?
If you have and the issue still persists..
You can open a bug report here.
Be sure to include your versions of WP and BP.December 16, 2016 at 4:54 pm #262187In reply to: Private forum redirecting to home page

December 16, 2016 at 3:17 pm #262174In reply to: Email to friends?
Venutius
ModeratorI’ve not seen a plugin that will do that, the closest I have seen is Crowdmentions which allows you to send a public message to @friends, but that does not send an email, only an onsite notification.
https://wordpress.org/plugins/crowdmentions/
Maybe you could ask one of the Mass Messaging plugin developers to add this as a feature?

It is always important to update WordPress to his latest version.
This rule is also valid for plugins and themes
December 15, 2016 at 12:25 pm #262129Topic: BuddyPress Logout Menu Item
in forum How-to & Troubleshootingalexanderdean
ParticipantGreetings,
The BuddyPress “Log Out” link is not working for me. I’m running BuddyPress 2.7.2 I didn’t upgrade to .3 yet because I didn’t see that this issue was addressed in the release notes. Anyway, I’ve tried TwentyFifteen and disabling all plugins. I’ve tried a different hosting account and the situation is the same: If I add the BuddyPress “Log Out” option to any of my menus, it supplies an encoded url… not the base part of the url, just the query string part as seen here:
All other instances of the logout link (like the one in wp admin or if I use <?php wp_logout(); ?> to generate one) all work fine.
Could you point me to the BuddyPress code that generating the menu point? Or otherwise point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
AlecDecember 14, 2016 at 10:51 pm #262111In reply to: [Resolved] Error update 2.5.3 –> 2.7.3

ModeratorThe two most common causes of this error are a corrupted .htaccess file and exceeding your server’s PHP memory limit.
The .htaccess file in your WordPress directory can become corrupted after you install a plugin or make another change to your WordPress site. All you need to do is create a new .htaccess file.

ParticipantBuddyPress doesn’t handle likes. That’s 3rd party plugin territory.
If Super Socializer has a notification option for BP users who doesn’t work, the solution is on the plugin author side.If you think you can get a BP notification because somebody liked a post with help of Super Socializer, and there is no BP specific option in the plugin, i guess it is not possible.
Would be great to see more details about your statement: (Heateor) say that it is an issue in BP. Can you share a link to the discussion ?
Did you asked yourself for this issue on their support ? Your name doesn’t appear.

ModeratorHi @sand06
Assuming the file is uploaded (and handled) by WordPress, you will need to hook to
wp_insert_posthttps://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Action_Reference/wp_insert_post
$postand$updatewill be passed to your custom function. You can use those to check if the post is a new file upload (attachment). -
