In reply to: Login and Register Link
@mercime
ParticipantIām new to buddypress but believed a login and register link would be placed in the header by default?
Not by default. It depends on the the design by theme author.
However, instead do I need to insert my own links or buttons within the header.php to make this work?
Yes. You would need to create those. See lines 8 through 59 of https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.7/bp-themes/bp-default/sidebar.php for code. Then adjust style to taste.

ParticipantThank you all for your comments.
I checked up the post @aces and @megainfo suggested, and found this plugin: WordPress Access Control, which seems to be working quite well, to my needs.
Will also check out other solutions.
Thank you again!April 16, 2013 at 7:28 pm #161867In reply to: Buddpress Avater Error

ParticipantYou need to stop them now, as best you can and delete all members you have in there. A new BP site I have has had over 29,000 spam stopped in the last month. Do not forget WordPress is under a bot attack at the moment.
Firstly, Switch off that any one can register on your site.
Clean out all the spam members. Delete them.
Install Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin from WordPress.Org (Saved my life)
Install Limit Login Attempts
Install capachi plugin and set it up for it to be on when people are registering.
Change your admin name, if it is admin.Switch back on that people can register on your site.
These posts might help you as the same thing happened to me.

ParticipantYou should never edit the core bp files!
Have you checked that, if necessary, all your plugins are updated to be compatible with bp 1.7
According to buddypress.org/support/topic/buddypress-1-7-is-now-available-2/page/2/#post-161513 a similar error message was caused by an un-updated plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-followers/ ?

ParticipantAdding link to ticket for convenience:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4937Also the temp fix is probably better placed in bp-custom.php rather than functions.php so it is applicable to BP generically rather than by theme activated.
April 16, 2013 at 2:50 pm #161819bp-help
ParticipantBuddyPress 1.7 does work with most themes providing they have standard wordpress template structures. There really is no way I see for BP to be compatible with every template scheme out there. There is plenty of free themes on wordpress.org that work fine with BP.
