I am running the latest wordpress mu 2.7 and lates BP- rc1

What does “lates” mean? Do you mean that you’re running the latest BP version?

If so, do you mean that you obtained BuddyPress from the big, orange Download button? Or, did you upgrade from trunk?

    Hy everyone!

I have latest trunks of wordpress mu, buddypress, bp-dev and signup-password plugin from premium.wpmudev.org.

The plugin doesn’t work. I have the password fields on my registration page but it still generates a random password on activation.

How can i make it work?

In wp-login.php, I have found the following line of code (around line 470) ….

I want to redirect the user to their profile page, so I changed it to …

I would highly recommend that you stay away from hacking core WPMU files. You’ll have to make the changes all over again the next time you update WPMU.

This is the way you should do it: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1095

How can I change the wp-login page to include my site\’s logo instead of the WordPress logo? Is this possible?

    http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/rebranding-wordpress-mu

By the way, you may receive faster responses in the future if you ask WPMU questions on the WPMU forums and ask BuddyPress-specific questions on this forum.

    Madshark-

It must be the latest branch, not trunk. Use this link http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress-mu/branches/2.7

RC-2 will come out as soon as 2.7.1 is released. I’ll release it via the automatic plugin download feature built into WordPress – as well as a zip.

As long as there are no major problems found (none for a while in trac) I’ll update to 1.0, and that will then test the auto-update procedure.

Make sure that bp is installed in a directory called /plugins/buddypress

Make sure that you are using the wpmu svn 2.7 branch http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress-mu/branches/2.7 not the wpmu trunk.

For some reason bp is not loading correctly. bp should be installed in the above directory and there should be other subdirs underneath that with all the components. Do you have this file in this path? /plugins/buddypress/bp-groups/bp-groups-templatetags.php

That is one of the files that is not loading.

    @John James Jacoby

Thanks John, I’ll wait for the tutorial!

Note – because of a limitation of my hosting provider (for whom I am a reseller) – they don’t allow xml-rpc calls to the same server, I have had to put bbPress on a different server from WordPress & BuddyPress, so if you want a tester to go through the tutorial I am happy to do so.

(I have a few spare domain names kicking around that I can use for this!)

This thread has an example of how to build a filter: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2146 for the user full name.

https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API for docs on wp actions and filters.

You should really talk to DJPaul here on the forums. He has a plugin called Welcome Pack that assigns new users a default friend and default group. He also says that the next version of that plugin will have the ability to create a custom welcome message to the new user. Not sure if that’s a PM or an email. Suggest what you want to him. He’s working that kinda track.

    It’s neither actually anymore.

It involves “deep integration” on the bbPress side, including WordPress/BuddyPress inside bbPress, and then making a new theme for bbPress that matches. :)

Trent and I are working on a comprehensive walk-through on how to do this soon.

First, please read this entire thread (all the posts) at least two times through before starting: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1994

    Then read through these links:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WPMU

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1285#post-9999

    http://subversion.tigris.org/faq.html

    https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/installing-through-svn/

Once you’ve done that, have a SVN client installed, and feel confident, go back to the first link in this post and follow the instructions.

From where do I get the most recent versions?

Those links are provided in the detailed instructions contained in the first link above.

I am on RC1.. I had Send Invites plugin installed, it messed up the whole thing (i.e. it automatically disabled the JS for some reason), so I deleted the plugin file and folder.

I had installed WP Super Cache too, it did not work well, so I had to take it off too..

Other than that, no MU plugins…

Here is the list of plugins I have installed for a single blog:

    Akismet

    All in One SEO Pack

    Global Translator

    Google XML Sitemaps

    SexyBookmarks

    Smart Youtube

    Smilies Themer

    Twitter for WordPress

    Twitter for WordPress

WordPress 2.6+ and bbPress 0.9 cookie integration

    WP Custom Login Logo

I disabled all the plugins but still the issue remains.

In my previous reply, I had disabled registration just to cross verify.. but still the new tables are getting created..

I traced the user from the User ID mentioned in the table name.. the user looks like a spammer to me.. but now sure what the user is trying to do as those created tables have 0 records…

    Hi Wythagy

The newest version requires WPMU 2.7 branch which is still in development (http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress-mu/branches/2.7/) as well as the latest BuddyPress (by which I mean the BuddyPress SVN trunk https://svn.buddypress.org/trunk).

If you are using BP RC1, then Welcome Pack doesn’t work full stop. Could you clarify what versions you are using so I can check stuff out? Thanks.

You have a blog that you allow people to have the role of Author. You want to restrict your authors to posting in certain categories only? Buddypress doesn’t have this capability but I’m sure you will be able to find such a plugin in the wp plugin directory: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

Sorry for being impatient. Anyone knows how to do this? Looks pretty simple to me but still can’t figure out myself. It’s the core wordpress functionality.

People seem to use the role manager plugin for this kind of use Anointed. There are lots of this type of plugin available for wp.

Thanks Jeff. Those function reference pages look very useful. I’ll dive back into PHP hell next Saturday…

I’ve been struggling with this crap, including html/css, javascript, etc., since about 2002. I usually want what I think are basic requirements, like in this case a pretty straightforward members table. So far I’ve had most luck stitching together simpler PHP scripts that I could sort of follow.

The more mature packages, like WordPress, are great for teens/tweens that want to add widgets and play around with templates, but they drop the ball on some basic grown-up business requirements and are much harder to customize unless you\’re a hardcore programmer.

I can’t afford to spend the time to become a programmer. I’d hire a 3rd party developer if I could get a clearer picture of what I need and what’s possible in WP. I did do Google searches and have posted lots of related questions on the WP and WPMU forums.

BTW, an intern from NYU Polytechnic was supposed to work on my project. He was a real PHP programmer, but had never heard of WordPress and seemed to know even less than I did.

    Peter-

I realize that you are not getting the answers you desire. You must have a sufficient understanding of and comfort level with PHP before you can delve too deeply into hacking your own solutions or coding your own theme templates. Otherwise, you need to use the stock WPMU and BuddyPress install and then customize with any plugins and 3rd-party themes that may be useful.

Since we do not have any idea of your particular coding skills, we are trying to point you in the right direction. Please realize that beyond a certain point, we cannot help you write your own custom code.

We all started at the beginning when it came to coding and then had another learning curve when it came to understanding the inner workings of WordPress and BuddyPress. It can be frustrating along the way but it is indeed possible to accomplish!

Here are a few more tips:

    1. Since you do seem to be wanting to group all user data within stock WP tables, you should search the WP and WPMU forums and ask your questions there
    2. Visit these WP Codex pages to help shed more light:
    3. Google for tips on learning data-driven PHP coding
    4. Hire a 3rd-party developer who can do the work: hacking files directly or create a plugin that will accomplish what you’re after

Please hang in there and don’t give up hope.

That is exactly what usermeta is for.

usermeta contains a lot of very cryptic data about bb_capabilities and blog roles/functionality, most from test members I’ve already deleted from the system. What am I supposed to do with that?!

The WordPress Codex has lots of useful information, but very little about the database structure, how to form queries to pull up that data and where these queries are in the WordPress code.

There is a section on the database structure, but it\’s about version 2.5. I know some fundamental changes were made since that version. It’s not relevant for WPMU and Buddypress anyway.

Basically I’m trying to figure out how to keep a full-fledged members database at the heart of WordPress, with common fields like name, address, company, title, etc., that I can tap into for other scripts. Static data that doesn’t interfere with other functionality in WP.

Has nobody ever done that? Is it impossible?

Should I create a seperate members database outside WordPress that somehow communicates/syncs with WordPress?
