I do see a possible problem here but don’t know enough about databases. I could get myself in way more trouble.

I see in the bb-config.php file that my Table prefix is ‘bb_’ but in the bbPress installer log I see that the table prefix is ‘lh_’ (my wordpress table prefixes are set to ‘lh_’). This is what the log says:

`>>> User database table prefix: lh_`

Looking at my database I see that the prefix is bb_ could this be the problem and if so how would I fix it? I don’t see how i can rename those tables. or change the prefix. I’m just guessing here. Thanks.

Are you trying to integrate an existing bbPress install with BP group’s? Or, is this a brand new bbPress install with no data?

If the latter, there is no reason to do a separate install of bbPress. BuddyPress comes with a barebones version of bbPress already. It allows BP Groups to each have their own forums. However, it does not allow for the creation of a sitewide forum.

If you have an existing bbPress forum that you’re trying to associate with BP, then the bbPress tables must be installed into the same database as your WordPress tables. Make sure that you have read this BP Codex article: https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/using-an-existing-bbpress-installation/

Finally, if you’re trying to have a standalone, global bbPress forum on your site, and not just have BP Group forums, then read this: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-do-i-create-a-non-group-specific-forum

Hmmm, I see that bb-config.php is currently set to: 666 What should it be? I tried 644 didn’t work. I see the directory is set to 705. I tried 755 as per most WordPress logic. Tried it with the document inside being both 666 and 644.
When you say absolute path do you mean literally to the system? it comes up with a path with all the directories up to the root of the server which I was surprised to see rather than the domain. But yes I tried all the possible paths I could think of .

I have a problem: I can´t login to bbpress & wordpress at the same time. I´m using wp 3.01, bbpress 1.0.2, buddypress 1.2.6
Anybody know how to get this running properly?

I am running single user wordpress. Installed buddypress hoping it would let users create posts but i dont see that. Is this only possible with multi-user wordpress or am I missing something?

    Thanks

The admin bar is basically a WordPress thing. It’s getting an overhaul soon to look like the wordpress.com admin bar. You can disable admin bar and use the wordpress menus and create your own sidebar menu widget.

I installed bbPress into WordPress/BuddyPress site. Following the bbPress installation instructions, I uploaded bbPress into a folder and renamed it “forum.”

I pointed my browser to the install page and filled out the three step form and all seemed to go well. I got an email from the bbPress installer stating that my installation was successful.

    This is my issue:

In order to integrate bbPress into my WordPress/BuddyPress site, I need to use the “Forum Setup” option under the BuddyPress panel in the WordPress admin area. When I attempted to use the option offered to me labeled “Use an existing bbPress installation” I am asked for the location of my bb-config.php file. When I put in the path, I get this message:

“The bb-config.php file was not found at that location, please try again.”

I have tried using the path from the root of my server with and without using the actual bb-config.php file name.

I have tried using the absolute path using my domain name with and without the file name above and with and without the “.www” in the path.

I cannot think of any more possible ways to direct my site to know where bb-config.php is located. I can see it on the server and can open it. Nothing I can see is out of place.

Anyone familiar with this issue? Thanks.

@modemlooper well I really do not like the bar on top and for the life of me I can not find a way to put it on the footer. If I could move it to the footer I think I would use that then for the navigation features. I also looked for an option for a facebook type footer bar and found a plug in https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/facebook-foot-panel/ but it does not really do much.

BTW the main reason for not having the bar on the top is it does not look good on my site with my header style.

Multisite is if you want to allow users to create their own blogs like on wordpress.com otherwise BP functions just the same on single WP.

If you want to put BP on a secondary blog here’s how. https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/install-buddypress-on-a-secondary-blog/

Thanks for this plugin! Though I haven’t had a chance to try it since when I try to send a message I get the “An error occurred, please try again” This happens every time and I’m quite confused since it seems to work for most people. My question then is, is there some setting (in buddypress or wordpress) that I haven’t found? been looking :)

    @nahummadrid

Maybe @MrMaz can tell you something about the performance of the plugin in more detail, but the feeds are cached and only checked once an hour or on a direct profile visit. So far the plugin has been performing great, and I have not noticed any performance issues with it. It is a lot less heavy on resources as a dedicated RSS feed importer plugin for WordPress, that’s for sure.

You do have to remember that the posts are not stored anywhere other then the activity stream itself. You can filter the stream for external blog posts but it does not save it as a regular post or anything. Excluding them from the Stream would mean that the entries are not stored anywhere basically making the plugin useless :)

If you feature requests just leave a comment on the blogpost on BP-Tricks itself so we can keep track of them!

I’ve been searching this for a few days, but I still haven’t found anything close to the answer.

I wonder if BuddyPress has a function to let users call a certain xprofile field just like the way we call it from the_author_description, outside BuddyPress loop but in a normal WordPress loop. I want to create an author box where the description field is taken from xprofile.

    Similar but old topics…

i saw this briefly on your site a couple weeks ago. I am looking forward to working with it. I have been doing the same thing but in a round about way. On multisite i just have users add their rss feed url to a subblog setup on something like feedwordpress/wpomatic. It works well but I’m having performance issues.

How will this plugin stand up as far as performance?

I like the way I’m doing it now because of the expanse of what can be done with wordpress posts. You can manage and manipulate the posts.

How will external member blogs allow us to handle the activity items for external posts? Is it possible to call them seperately something like (type=external_post) ? Is it easy enough to exclude them from the general activity feed?

Tags, Categories? How does it handle images?

I remember when the groups external feed plugin came out, this was one the first things I asked about doing…for members. I look forward to the future development of this plugin. Thanks for it.

    Hi,
It would be geat to get some help with this problem, as it has plagued for more than a week now.

After changing servers, our forums have ceased to display. Precisely, forums of existing group do not display (e.g. http://www.ma-grande-taille.com/communaute/groupes/rondes-a-la-mode/forum/).

Meanwhile, when we try to create a forum within a new group, we get the following message : “Attention Site Admin: Group forums require the correct setup and configuration of a bbPress installation.”

Obviously, we’ve tried to re-install hte forums several times. It does not resolve the issue. Worse, it sometimes causes our whole Buddypress installation to disappear (all is left is WordPress).

I look forward to getting your advice,

    Best regards,

    Thibault

I have just installed Buddypress (latest version) on a new install of wordpress. I have wordpress installed in a directory like “bodyshapingblueprint.com/members” and I am also running wishlist member off this site as well.

When I log in as a test user account, and then click on the “Account-> Profile” tab at the top navigation, it gives a “Page Not Found” error.

I just installed a buddypress friendly 3 column theme (which can be seen at bodyshapingblueprint.com/members ).

I can’t figure this out. I have tried changing the wp-config.php file and changing the bp-members slug but it didn’t actually change anything.

    Please help! Thanks!

I am running WordPress 3.01 with Buddypress 1.2.6 (just installed). My problem appears to be similar. Details follow.

The first time a user goes to the profile of the user requesting the friendship, the Accept and Reject buttons appear. However, if they do not click one of the buttons, then a greyed out “Friendship requested” button appears in all places where the “Accept” button would have appeared.

I have quite a few plugins installed, but none of the ones mentioned in this thread.

I tried WordPress Google Transliteration plugins but they break my links and don’t work on Forums.

Sorry to jump in on this older thread but I just wanted to know if there was an easy way to get this filtering of table names to work to allow me to create a separate instance of buddypress on a wordpress multisite?

I am using the multi-network plugin to create networks and all that is working fine but each time I activate the buddypress plugin on a network it uses the same database as the all of the other networks and therefore it is the same as the normal wordpress multisite setup.

As a workaround I changed the code in bp_core_get_table_prefix() in bp-core.php to append the id of the network. That works fine and creates a new set of tables but obviously not ideal.

    Thanks

    Hi

I’m pretty new to wordpress & am very new to buddypress. I’ve installed both & created a basic child theme of the standard layout.

The only problem is thar the page & sidebar contents run off the right hand side of the page. Im not sure what I need to tweak to stop this from happening.

Any .CSS wonderboy or wondergirl asistance would be helpful?

    The site is http://www.babbleyak.com.

    Thanks

That’s not possible with BuddyPress at this time. See this: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/faqs/

In fact, I don’t see this ever being an option in BP–even when the new bbPress plugin becomes available. Both BP and the upcoming plugin version of bbP are software layers that sit on top of WordPress. So each is responsible for their own sets of data access functions. Even with BP Group-based forums, the bbP functions are being hijacked to work within BP but only barely.

To have a standalone install of bbPress functioning in WordPress (which is what would give you a site-wide forum) requires a process called deep integration. For more information on integrating bbPress with WordPress, search the WP or bbP forums. Or better yet, just wait until the pluginitized version of bbPress is available!

Adding in the link too that would rock like it does in forums / streams.

    Hi All,

Does anyone know if you (as an admin) can tag a post with an @mention that will automatically mention all users, instead of having to mention each one individually?

    Thanks

    Jonathan
