In reply to: Total number of activity update posts by user
You can use BuddyPress Member Stats plugin or just this function (in bp-custom.php)
This example is for group updates only. But you have the general idea. And please, keep calm, if you have a big update writers community, totalizing ALL existing updates can became a mess and a real problem which can slow down a site. You’re warned ! 😉
function bms_get_total_group_updates_count(){ global $wpdb, $bp; $user_id = bp_displayed_user_id(); if ( bp_is_active( 'groups' ) ) : // DB query $total_updates = $wpdb->get_var( $wpdb->prepare( "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM {$wpdb->prefix}bp_activity WHERE component = 'groups' AND type = 'activity_update' AND user_id = '%s' ", $user_id ) ); echo $total_updates; endif; }And for the output somewhere in your template, something like:
<li><?php _e( 'My updates:', 'buddymemberstats' ); ?> <?php bms_get_total_group_updates_count(); ?></li>Yes, i’m the plugin author. 😉
In reply to: Custom member directory stylingI’m afraid you can’t built another member’s directory. “Members” is a component and it use a dynamic page to output anything related to members.
The only thing who change, is eventually the content template part (member directory vs. profile for example: both activity are on the same pseudo “page”.
The only way i see for your case, is to add a custom filter and to define eventually another default output for member directory, based on the current filter. But it’s the user who has to choose what he want to see there.
Default filter are recently active, recently subscribed and alphabetical order. To add more option, included “artists”, try to add “member type” or create you r own plugin to filter.
Here the related codex page for member-type
And codex page for how to add a filter on members directory.
For the @ use, the correct way to use it is when you want to mention (@mention) somebody. And so far i can see this here, it doesn’t actually work on bp.org ! 😉
So just keep in mind that you publish on a public forum. It is not intended to call mods individually. We’re not consultants here (we don’t charge you), but simple volonteers trying to guide and help other users.
In reply to: Custom member directory stylingPlease don’t call out people individually (this was already told to you by @shanebp)
bp-default is no more the default theme for BP. You can use almost any other existing theme.
While testing, i recommend you to use one of the Twenty’s theme shipped with WordPress. Then to create a child theme and copy into it the needed file from wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/buddypress/
As reminder, a page structure contains at least a header, a content and a footer template, and sometimes a sidebar, depending the theme you use.
If you open index.php from wp-content\plugins\buddypress\bp-templates\bp-legacy\buddypress\members\index.php you should get the search form in that template.
Though if you asign the Member page as home page in WP’s Read settings, you won’t have to struggle much with customization.
Read Codex attentively by starting from here.
You may also explain what you want to do exactly and tell which theme you use.
In reply to: BP_AVATAR_DEFAULT_THUMB issueHave you tried both lines i indicated previously ?
Also, what about thumbnail size in WP settings ? Have you checked that ?I’m not very well with attachments… But you’re proably right. See her for all bp_atachment references
http://hookr.io/plugins/buddypress/#index=a&search=bp_attachmentsIn reply to: BP_AVATAR_DEFAULT_THUMB issueHi,
default avatar is ‘gravatar’ ‘s mytery man. To use your own avatar, you have to deactivate gravatar in addition to constant. Try this in bp-custom.php
add_filter('bp_core_fetch_avatar_no_grav', '__return_true'); define ( 'BP_AVATAR_DEFAULT_THUMB', 'YOURIMAGEURL' );In reply to: BuddyPress 2.5.1 – Maintenance releaseplease open your own topic if you have an issue. This is an annoucment topic and not intended for support questions.
thank you.
In reply to: Help! Website internal messengerPlease, avoid double posting.
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/help-website-internal-messenger-2/Hi
you can use this snippet from within bp-custom.php to change the default year range in the profile field datepicker (1902 – 2035). In the example, you will get 1950 – 2020
function custom_bp_datebox($html, $type, $day, $month, $year, $field_id, $date) { if($type == 'year'){ $html = '<option value=""' . selected( $year, '', false ) . '>----</option>'; for ( $i = 2020; $i > 1949; $i-- ) { $html .= '<option value="' . $i .'"' . selected( $year, $i, false ) . '>' . $i . '</option>'; } } return $html; } add_filter( 'bp_get_the_profile_field_datebox', 'custom_bp_datebox',10,7);Tested with BP 2.5 and a third party theme. Hope it helps you. 😉
In reply to: Certain emails not getting sentIn reply to: BuddyPress in Multi SiteYep, now it’s clearer. But sorry, I don’t know about a way to get some groups on main site and some others only on a secondary site.
Group should be intended as members group. And a group is not a site. It is just a bunch of members attached to a group.
Also, a group is not a blog and that’s why you get on a multisite install several blogs who share the same members, belonging eventually to differents groups. What and wherever the install is on main or seconday blog.
Members are all in the same DB table and WP doesn’t share them by groups, but by username > blog authors…
As you already know, BuddyPress comes with a member directory and a group directory. And on a multisite(aka network), a blog directory. But basically, all 3 cases are related to members, not to blog. There is no relation between a blog and a group. You can eventually install a blog into a group (buddypress group blog plugin), but you can’t install a group into a specific blog (outside the one where BP is activated). A group is not a blog.
On codex it is specified: buddypress root blog (the one you get from WordPress) or buddypress root blog on secondary site.
In other words, It should go to the secondary site. is not possible.
But i can be completely wrong. 😉

@tonyxs1 logically in the template. The what’s new form is used on activity, profile and group page.
You’ll certainly find some good information from these one or other search results:

I have a 2 site multisite sounds a bit ambiguous.
Do you mean 2 multisite installs or 1 multisite install with 2 sites ?
If your config is the second option, BuddyPress should be at the root of the main site, at the same level as WordPress. Case A. of a standart network install, as explained here:
Read attentively each step of your special configuration to see if you didn’t omited something in your settings.
In reply to: BuddyPress + bbPress Breaks bbPress Search Widgeti tried to reproduce and got same result as @gretchenlouise with one of WP theme.

In reply to: Emails showing as being sent from wordpressHi @jersey-peeps,
i’m using wp-better-emails on a multisite BP install (lastest version) without any trouble. I changed the “from” field within this plugin admin.
On a single WP install (lastest version), i use this from within child-theme’s functions.php
So if you uninstalled better_emails, you could try these snippets.//notification mail email change add_filter('wp_mail_from','custom_email_from'); function custom_email_from($mail) { $mail = 'your@mail.name'; // Replace the email address here // return $mail; } //notification name change; optional add_filter('wp_mail_from_name','custom_email_from_name'); function custom_email_from_name($name) { $name = get_bloginfo('YOUR SITE NAME');//put your own text here return $name; }In hope it helps you. 😉

Damned! The only notice with it’s own codex page. LOLThank you @shanebp for sharing this solution.
In reply to: Language email@djpaul, all,
sorry for this mistake. Haven’t checked mail content after my second usage of the repair tool.
In reply to: headache because of my slow websiteHi,
it seems you don’t use BuddyPress.
Ask better on https://wordpress.org/support/ or at least, analize your site on an expert site like https://gtmetrix.comIn reply to: Where are the emoji’s?Hi,
it’s enabled by default. More about Emoji on WP Codex: https://codex.wordpress.org/Emoji
IMHO, this need also to be reflected in terms of gamification. Because…
If you never write about humour and funny things, you don’t develop for mobile devices or don’t use a forum or don’t allow comments (or rarely) and not maintain a site for kids, you could probably disable this feature. Search for Disable Emojis on WP plugins repository.
The dark side of Emoji’s is that it use an external ressource which is(can be) bandwith consumpting. So if you haven’t an absolute necessity for them, prefer the good old built-in WP smiley.
In reply to: Language emailHi @xxsemmiexx,
the new email feature comes in with a pre-built list of emails. These emails are defaults one for any possible situation in BuddyPress. It’s more or less the same as you have on your profile > settings > messages, where you have the email situation and a checkbox.
The translatable part of these emails, shipped with xx_XX.po/mo, is the mail subject.
When you click on the subject from within the email list, you’ll get the email editor. At this stage and if the mo file is correctly made, you see the list in your language.
Now, let’s see the mail content. Click on Edit.
As title you have the subject (which is translated) and the body (which is not).
That’s intended so. It’s fake content in english and let you see how to use the tokens inside the email body – or subject. This is also usefull if you want to add some custom email.
That said, after updating a translation, the modification doesn’t show up automagically in the list. To see it, you have to run the email repair tool.
Hope it is clear and helpfull for you.
In reply to: translation emailBuddyPress in french is now 100% translated. You can download it from here:
https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/fr/default/wp-plugins/buddypressIn case the emails still remains in english, use the repair tool link at the top of the email list and start “Réinstaller les emails (supprime puis restaure les paramètres par défaut)”.
In reply to: translation emailHi,
check out the new Email feature added in BP 2.5.
Dashboard > Emails and customize any of the existing emails.
More details here:
In reply to: Does anyone know of a Gallery plugin for Buddypress? No worry about this “version update information”. It’s ok. MediaPress was last updated a week ago, so i guess it’s ok with WP 4.4.x and BP 2.4.x
You’re welcome. Important thing is you get it to work. 😉
In reply to: Invalid activation keymaybe a session cookie. This can happen when a user register first, goes to read the mail and take the key, went back to your site and enter the key, in the same nav session.
Some client don’t handle different tab actions…
