Hi Buddypress support,
I am still waiting to get my problem to solve.
While using bbpress search forum then the search result is not displayed, but instead get forward to homepage.

not sure but I guess it was working

GDF_child is from geodirectory (but the problem occur even, if I switch the theme to twenty fourteen)

Not as I know, but maybe the geodirectory addon “GeoDirectory BuddyPress Integration 1.1.9″

no build in. version in use is bbPress 2.5.12

Hi,

I have installed BuddyPress on a fresh local install and used the Emmet Lite theme.

My problem is that when I create a user, login to the site using a completely different browser, with the cache purged and browsing history removed on start, and go to the user profile, I do not have the option to change the profile visibility. The dropdown for the Name is not showing at all.

Please see settings-profile-visibility on the BuddyPress codex.

When you view the image you will see “Base -> Name” and “Visibility -> Everyone” in a dropdown. In my install the “Visibility -> Name” is not a dropdown and not selectable attall.

Thanks in advance for helping me figure this one out.

Hello,

A new problem occurred on my website when trying to access the My Replies section in the forum page of Buddypress.
The page stays white and the php logs shows
PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 32 bytes) in /home/digitalpainting/html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4065, referer: http://digitalpainting.school/members/testjean30/forums/

I think this started to happen when my forum reached a certain number of threads and replies.
Forum stats : 40 forums, 3405 topics, 40841 replies.

My PHP is 5.6.26 and the memory limit is 256G.

Any help would he appreciated.

My install has stopped sending any emails out for new user activation.
I can receive emails sent by WordPress after a user is manually activated, and can receive any email from Postman SMTP, as these test emails work.

I don’t use any other activity markers, but emails were not received when messages were sent either.

I have tried all of the listed troubleshooting steps that others have gone through before.

I have a custom function that creates a post for the user during the registration process. I have removed all custom functions and tried registering a user, and it still will not send any emails.

As BuddyPress uses it’s own PHP Mailer, I am not able to log them via any WP Mail logging tools, and want to see what might be going on here.
The problem reared its head around the time I upgraded to 2.6 (although the custom function during registration was also added at this time) as well

I have reset the emails multiple times, and I have not made any changes to them.

Could someone please provide assistance, or given me a suggestion on how to run the BP Email Debug code to get an email of any issues

Same problem here, I’ve tried to upload an image called “believe.jpg” but it’s not working… I’ve tried with php7, php5.4 and php5.6, nothing seems to fix the problem 🙁

I currently have BuddyPress Version 2.5.1 installed and I am uploading an avatar to the members profile. The avatar uploads but I receive the error message – There was a problem cropping your profile photo. And then the upload fails.

I am running PHP Version 5.4.43 with the current host.

Does anyone know if this is a php version issue or if there is another fix for this issue?

Is PHP Safe Mode enabled?

No, afaik.
Host is running php 5.4 in which, I believe, safe_mode was removed.

See that is what confuses me so damn bad @henrywright, these cheap hosts really just cannot be bothered upgrading something as simple as PHP versions, I mean why stay behind the times? it really does annoy me, this is why web design stands still whilst the tech to power it for performance is readily available to those that choose to upgrade, if the majority of hosts was using the latest PHP, MYSQL etc.. then dramatic changes could happen and performance gains would start happening ten fold.

I am stunned at how many people are still using PHP 5.4 when the major increases came into effect from PHP 5.5 and PHP 5.6 with the introduction of opcache being inbuilt, leaving apc cache in the dust due to it not being developed for future PHP support. The improvements I am seeing in real world performance with each jump since 5.4 is so damn nice.

I reckon plugin devs should just start using these extra features forcing people to take action if they want to start using these plugins. It is the only way to move things forward, if plugin devs are to scared to make the jump then so is everyone else.

Agreed @mcpeanut, the speed improvements alone are worth the upgrade. PHP 7 also has some useful features that us developers would love to use. Problem is, most cheap hosts will still be on something like 5.4 so we can’t use any of the new features in our plugins.

While you’re in touch with the support team, ask them to install BuddyPres on your site or at least why you get this error. For me, it is not an issue related to BuddyPress.

if i believe what is written by your host about PHP:

For example, PHP hosting at One.com provides access to the following elements:
PHP 5
MySQL database
Advanced dynamic websites

Seriously, it’s a bit short (IMHO) to convience me that WP and BP can run correctly together. Maybe a generic phrase, maybe exact, but the only way to know it exactly is phpinfo.
But for the moment, PHP 5 is not PHP 5.4 !
More annoying, i haven’t found any technical information about a host plan, except disk space and prices of domain names.

Personnaly, i won’t use such apparently poor hosting service.

Don’t know, but looks so, no ?

It’s even better to install WP (and plugins) manually via FTP on your server, as not all automated installer are using updated version or correctly setup preconfigured install. If you’re sure you can do this, do it. 😉

And if you’re sure you can do this, run phpinfo first, so you’ll also be sure you can (or not) use latest WP on that host. Remember that if you want to use WP + BP, you need php 5.4 and at least 64 mo of php memory_limit (128 recommended).

I would also recommend you to read some general information about WP installation previously to any other action.

Even if this version is still acceptable for a basic WP blog, i would recommend you use at least 5.3 or better, 5.4 You have many plugins, and working with a too old php is not recommended.

BuddyPress Toolbar is outdated and no more necessary, as Toolbar was slightly modified since WP 3.9 and BP 1.5

BP Group Organizer is over 2 years too and group admin is anyway fully integrated to BP since 1.7

BuddyPress Groups component is tailored for grouping members. You can show group members activities, but it’s not intended to categorize posts like you can do it on the blog.

In other words, a group belongs to members, not to a blog category. So far by default. To get such a behave you have to code it yourself or you can use this plugin.

Thanks for the quick response.

I have a default install.

My site is http://kingstonnexus.ca

Wordpress is installed in the root directory (httpdocs on my server) (v 4.1.1)
Buddypress is installed in wp-content/plugins/buddypress (v 2.2.1)

Happy to provide more information I’m just not sure what you need.

PHP 5.4, I think it’s Apache but I will have to find out.

Yes, I have permalinks enabled and set to Post name. All other pages and posts are loading just fine, no problems there. BuddyPress Members, Activity Streams and User Groups pages were successfully created and seem to be working just fine as well.
Just the registration page reloads with form data filled when I try to submit it and no user gets registered.

I haven’t mentioned it in the previous post but I’ve also checked Apache logs to see if any errors were logged, but logs are all clean, so no help there unfortunately as well (btw I have Apache 2.4.4 and php 5.4.12 on my WAMP server install).

Sorry about the lack of information. See the updated information:

We are currently hosting on Amazon’s cloud running Amazon Web Services. Our PhP version is 5.4.31. Using the latest version of the Sweet Date theme. We have four major plugins installed. BuddyPress 2.2.0., bbPress 2.5.4, s2Member Framework Version 150203 + s2Member Pro v150203 and Event Espresso 4.6.6.p. The other plugin do not control permissions,groups our user classifications.

We are not sure exactly when this problem occurred because we were not using the friend request feature. However we did test this successfully in the past but are not sure of the plugin versions.

The changes we recently made were the following:
We had Buddy Press, s2Member and Event Espresso installed with the latest versions. We then installed latest version of bbPress. We created users groups and assigned the appropriate permission of user to subscribe and receive invites to join the group. We learned that members can not join a group unless they are friends with an individual already in a particular group.

When we send a friend request to a user that person receives the request. They are able to see the notification in their profile under Friends-Pending Request. At this point everything looks good. The user can see the requester image and can the ability to clink Accept Button or Reject Button. When either of the buttons are clicked nothing happens. We waited for exactly 2 minutes and just refreshed the page. We get the same actions if the Reject Button is selected also. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

BuddyPress User Account Type Lite, an outdated plugin who existed as PRO version, is now avaible for free. And works with 4.0.1 and BP 2.1.1

While I’m happy you found a solution for you 🙂 downgrading PHP isn’t something that someone should have to do. We’re still unclear as to the cause of the problem; I’d be surprised if it was only related to the PHP change (maybe changing the PHP version also cleared some cache or something — I don’t know).

We run our unit tests on PHP 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5 — see https://travis-ci.org/buddypress/BuddyPress (I know they are currently broken, unrelated!).
