@robproce BuddyPress is compatible with the bbPress plugin for Sitewide and/or Group forums
Installing Group and Sitewide Forums
Hello, we need help with the following problem:
When switching our live system from bp 4.3.0 (legacy templates) to bp 5.1.2 (nouveau templates), we are running into problems with the pagination and grid layout for example on the groups page. The reason for this seems to be that buddypress()->current_component is empty. Therefore the loop classes (bp_nouveau_loop_classes()) can’t be generated correctly. We don’t understand why this happens and so far we haven’t been able to reproduce the error on our development system. (This makes troubleshooting almost impossible, because we need our live system to be up and running and therefore switched it back to the old state.)
We are running wp 5.3.2 and bbpress 2.6.4. We already tried to clone the file system and database from our live system (as far as possible), but so far the error did not occur on any other system. We are using several other plugins and tried to deactivate them one by one, also without success. We use a custom theme and template overrides, but this doesn’t cause any trouble at all on our development system. We would be grateful for any advice on how to reproduce the error on our development system or any ideas why current_component is not set as it should be.
I have wordpress version 5.4 and buddypress version 5.1.2. I am using bbpress, youzer, and buddypress to wordpress full sync.
I had gathered from research that users can private message to other users from the compose screen if they’re not friends, by simply inputting in their username in the input field. But currently the user is only able to send a private message to a friend, rather than any member. How do I open up this functionality so users can find any member in the directory to send a private message?
I’ve just discovered that this is a known bbPress bug, and a patch has been submitted here (see “Attachments”):
https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3341
Editing bbpress/includes/extend/buddypress/notifications.php as shown has fixed the issue for me.
I am also using BBpress so if there is some issue there, let me know.
Website is joshinshaker.com – Sorry it’s slow, its on a test server.
When I go to users > Profile Fields, there is the field Name 3 times. How do I delete this?
I installed the BuddyPress plug in last night and love the features that it adds to the bbPress plugin. One problem that I am having is the ability for subscribers to update their profile pictures. When my users go to update their profile on the frontend, there is an extended profile tab. When the user clicks the tab, it kicks them out to the site’s home page. I don’t know if I am doing something wrong. I am loving this plugin and don’t want to uninstall it. Thanks!
I am using the most recent version of WordPress. It was just updated yesterday, I believe. I am using Version 5.1.2 of Buddy Press. My site is mystudiovive.com
Hello Friends,
All of the plugins are up to date and still there is conflict in jQuery and rtmedia.min.js files in buddypress-media plugin. Can anyone please help me on this.
Wordpress version 5.3.2
bbPress version 2.3.4
BuddyPress version 5.1.2
Thank you in advance.
It’s insane, but my client wants to suppress the activation email that BuddyPress sends out for activation – she feels that the double-optin that the mass email service sends is ‘enough’ – that was easy enough to do by setting the email to draft mode without touching any code.
My plugin does an API to hand the just-enrolled (WP user regiatration) email to the mass email service and that’s working fine. The mass email service double-optin email is going out fine to the new email address.
But after I’ve handed off the email address, I need to move the new user from the Pending page in Users to the main Users page with a wp role/capability of ‘Subscriber’ and a BuddyPres/bbpress capability/role of ‘Participant’ without the client having to go in and activate the user by hand. I’ve been searching WP codex and BuddyPress codex for hints toward an action or filter hook that will do this, but no luck so far. I’ve even gone so far as to try some direct sql mods ti the wp_users and wp_usermeta tables, but no luck, although mods to other items like display_name, etc worked fine.
I know the dangers of this and have explained them carefully to the client, but she still wants to crash ahead with this. She’ll just have to get the lesson the hard way when her forum fills up with porn. I do plan on implementing this so it’s easily reversible, but she just has to walk thru that dark valley.
Any help on some code that I can fire from my plugin that will fully activate a user as described above? Thanks for your kind help – no example code here to share because 6-8 methods I tried were all dismal failures.
Hi!
I was wondering if anyone else has this issue? My site runs with Buddypress and Bbpress. I haven’t done any changes but suddetly people appears logged out when visiting posts on the site. I have tried to check different settings but nothing helps, any suggestions would be helpful.
I run on WordPress 5.2.5, and Buddypress Version 5.1.2.
Thanks!
I have precisely the same problem on my website. Running bbPress 2.6.4 and BuddyPress 5.1.2, with customizr theme 4.2.0 (site: https://www.ethicalretinue.com/).
Issue was also reported at the bbpress forums: https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-notifications-not-clearing-up/ There’s a fix suggested there, which unfortunately does not work for me.
Please ask your question on the support forums for bbPress.
Hi there,
May be you can use a plugin that uses shortcodes to display BuddyPress page elements in elemntor Pro.
This is the way I was doing for bbPress pages in elementor.
https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-profile-shortcodes-extra/
Not that I know of.
But your question is about bbPress.
The forums for bbPress are here.
Hi, BuddyPress uses bbpress for it’s forums so you may have more luck on their forums but when I’m logged in on my sites I can select Edit and then change which forum the topic is assigned to.
I hope this helps.
Is there a way in BuddyPress to move a forum topic from one group to another group?
This is a basic tool for moderating posts in standard forums.
But iut seems to be missing in BuddyPress and BBPress.
how to hide new topics n replies of bbpress in buddypress activity wall?
I tried wb com plugin activity filter, it messed up with my other plugin from buddydev to show all community activity tab.
can u help?
By the way, I’m not sure why a half-core WordPress plugin like Buddypress, is not using wp_mail like his brother BBPress I was thinking if this could be a good patch to be considered in the future?
OMG, after hours of tracking the bbpress code I’ve finally found the culprit
The MOST stupid thing I’ve seen ever and is not even fault of Buddypress but BBpress!!!!
For some reason, some illuminated coder decided that the site should be “indexable” in order to admit both BuddyPress notifications or mentions.
So essentially I had the
“Discourage search engines from indexing”, ticked off…
I cry everytime
Disabled just buddypress leaving bbpress enabled and tried bbpress notifications (on reply) and worked flawlessly…
I’m missing something, maybe buddypress activity db has been corrupted? Any way to turn on max debug on buddypress?
By the way, I’ve run all 4 tasks in the Tools section
(Also I’m running on a custom VPS, so no issues possible with email limitations)
Removed both buddypress and bbpress folders and redownload them, and nothing
Also I’ve noticed that email notifications are not working for any users, although other plugins notificacions like Gamipress work right.
But the weirdest thing is that reply notices are working right (in-site not email ones)
Checking buddypress code, I see that there is a filter that controls this:
function bp_activity_do_mentions() {
/**
* Filters whether or not mentions are enabled.
*
* @since 1.8.0
*
* @param bool $enabled True to enable mentions, false to disable.
*/
return (bool) apply_filters( 'bp_activity_do_mentions', true );
}
But bp_activity_do_mentions has not been modified anywhere in the code (I’m using core default twenty twenty + just buddypress and bbpress)
I’ve also tested the function bp_activity_do_mentions() in the functions.php and it is returning true.
This is incredibly weird.
I’ve installed a test site with just Buddypress + BBpress and did a mention and it worked fine.
Then in the site where mentions are not working, I have disabled ALL plugins and put Twenty Twenty theme and tried again, and it doesnt work 🙁
I have checked the apache2 error log and nothing there
Also activated the WP_DEBUG but nothing…
Mindblowing.
It is like the at_mention hook is not being fired…
The email notification for mentions is not firing either
What could I be missing here?

plugins: bbpress and buddypress

Hi,
Those buttons don’t look like they are related to BuddyPress specifically, is this on the forums? If so buddypress uses bbpress so you may have more luck on their support forums https://bbpress.org/forums/
Good to know that your problem is solved using paid plugin but If someone faces same problem it’s easy to solve.
If you didn’t know buddypress has list of shortcodes for almost everything. Find it here – https://codex.bbpress.org/features/shortcodes/
For Account pages below shortcodes will be handy. You just need to create new pages and paste [shortcode] in your pages.
[bbp-login] – Display the login screen.
[bbp-register] – Display the register screen.
[bbp-lost-pass] – Display the lost password screen.
to set dynamic login pages follow below.
1) From your admin dashboard goto settings > Buddypress.
2) look for tab named Pages.
3) Select your register and activate pages.
@sydlyisaacs Youzer plugin will do the same but it gives you simpler interface to manage your pages.
