KeymasterAndre Tan, I suspect the issues you’re having are related to shared hosting + the XMLRPC interface for including forums into groups. Future versions of BuddyPress will not have this problem as it includes bbPress and references it directly going forward.
It may still end up being a little heavy on the server, but you should experience the random load issues that you are currently.

KeymasterNo, BP doesn’t provide a BB theme. And before someone asks, no the forum theme on this site is not being released. I’m sure if someone invented 30 hour days, then BP might come with a BB theme.

Participant…when there are possibly more users hammering on the shared box that we’re hosted on.
There are just too many variables to address when you’re hosting a WPMU install on a shared box. It could be your install, it could be the server’s resources are being hogged by a few other domains on that server, it could be, it could be…
This BP thread may be helpful: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-and-shared-hosting
In case you have not seen this, here’s an article in the BP Codex about improving performance.

KeymasterThere is no server-specific data used by Buddypress. Export all the BP tables and import them into the new database.
For specific advice on migrating a WPMU installation, it’s probably best to look at the Wu forums.

ParticipantI know WP has an Export feature, BBpress has an export plugin, I don’t know about BuddyPress information.
If no one can answer the export information on BP then I would suggest to have both domain point to the same server/folder. Then change all URLs on the admin page to the new one.
If you backup your SQL data it will still point to the old site.
blackarbor, are you hosting it?

InactiveI was delighted when I saw this, however, it’s not exactly what I thought this post was going to be about.
I have a test site on my own hosting and domain and would like to transfer it over to the clients. Is there a good way to do this? Or is it back-up, import on fresh install on new server, then copy all my customized files over?

ParticipantThanks Gerikg.
Can anyone else confirm that this is a suitable method, as Its not something I want to mess up?
Cheers

ParticipantEasy no.
A. On your Hosting Control Panel point the new URL to the same folder as where you have everything now. Then go to the admin settings and change the URL on both WPMU and BBPress. It will log you out and you have to log in. Install plugin broken link checker https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/broken-link-checker/ and have fun changing all the URLs.
there is another option it involves setting up a new SQL and exporting everything and importing… bbpress has a pluging for you to export and import, I never used it so I don’t want to recommend it.

ParticipantI got the fatal error after deactivating the BP plugin and reactivating it. You have you delete the the BP plugin and themes and/or other files you moved out of the BP folder. (example BBpress-plugin and bphome theme) After all that fresh install.

ParticipantI had the same problem. I also refused to use a version that is non stable.
I read everything over and over. Mostly everything point to three major “integration” blogs.
I almost gave up until I was looking at my FTP and noticed the read “installation-readme.txt” in the bp-forums folder in BuddyPress plugin.
This line—-> Also check the “Enable Pingbacks” option just below.
That’s the only thing that wasn’t in the instructions. I enable in both WPMU and BBPress and it worked!

Participanthi there,
Integration was smooth for me, except for one thing
here is the site in question: http://www.waapsols.com
Its running Buddypress.
These are the steps I followed to integrate BB and BP… https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/bp-103-and-bbpress-which-version-plugins-cookies#post-20006
WPMU, BP, and BB is working good. But I just can’t get the logins to work, I mean when I login into WPMU, I am not automatically logged into BBPress Forum.
I am guessing thats the reason why in my BuddyPress, the forum is working fine, but who ever posts, there is no gravtar or name is seen

Can someone help, what might have gone wrong.?

ParticipantI think I can simplify my question from a few days ago. To recap- I believe my bp and bbpress integration is working properly, but I’m not sure because of two issues:
1. Forum posts deleted from the bp group forums are removed from the bp group but remain in the bbpress forums.
2. Tags can be added to forum topics in bp groups but the tags don’t serve a purpose in bp. Tags are only accessible/searchable when directly using bbpress.
Is this how integration presently works? If not, any suggestions?
Thanks for your feedback. wpmu 2.8.2, bp 1.0.3, bbpress 1.0.2, subdomains

ParticipantAnd it’s actually not working. When I activate the plugin, the group forums disappear in all BP groups.
I have the same problem.
Some ideas?

ParticipantThis is great I am sure it will be much used. Perhaps it should be cut and pasted into a post entitled WP 2.8.1/BP 1.01/bbPress 1.0.3 (or something) Integration and made sticky.
I have read several people say they are on hold or gave up due to the difficulty in integrating these pieces. It is a shame it is difficult because all three are top of class work. Our forums are faster and cleaner than anything we have used in the past.
If only integrating cookies, users, and looks was a button click I think 90% of the frustration would be gone IMHO.

ParticipantThanks, mariusooms, for your reaction. I updated to the latest trunk with svn this morning. I’m using sub-domains and wpmu is located in my root. WPMU and BuddyPress both work as expected. I’ve activated forum setup and got the message “bbPress forum integration in BuddyPress has been set up correctly. If you are having problems you can re-install”. HOWEVER, no bb-config.php file has been placed at my root (or anywhere else except the dummy default location as far as I can tell).
When I try to create a group, the screen goes completely blank at “/members/admin/groups/create/step/group-settings” and I see a “”POST /members/admin/groups/create/step/group-settings HTTP/1.1″ 403” in my Apache log file. Is that a problem of access rights? As I said, I temporarily set my root to 777 before setting up the bbPress integration in BuddyPress.
Just reporting back. I seem to be the only one with this particular problem, and I’ll try to investigate some more.
