KeymasterAh hah. If you are getting warnings about “wp_get_theme”, you mustn’t be on WordPress 3.4+. You’ll need to downgrade BuddyPress, or upgrade WordPress (preferably the latter).
See this table for version requirements https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/December 7, 2012 at 10:09 pm #146803In reply to: Should I install 1.7?

ParticipantOk, thanks for your reply.
Is there a way to import bbPress forums into BuddyPress? I was thinking I’d just use bbPress for the time being, and then make the switch over once there’s a stable version.

ModeratorYou just create blank pages. Nothing to add. This is mainly to create url/slugs for BuddyPress to use for a component.
Read section on pages: https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/configure-buddypress-components/

ParticipantWith 1.6.1 you need the bbPress 2.2.2 plugin with certain settings enabled or disabled.
If you are struggling as to the right combination, have a view of our step by step video guide here:

ParticipantPaul,
I could not find the Group Forums component. When I logged in, I saw that there was an update for Buddypress, so I updated, figuring that might help. Instead, it gave me a similar Function error (Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_theme() in /home/fullcirc/public_html/directaccess.us/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/admin/bp-core-functions.php on line 242) when I tried to access the Dashboard. Now I have two problems! 🙁

ParticipantI am also a bit annoyed finding out this is not a built-in capability of BuddyPress as after months of developing and tweaking my site, I’m finally ready to launch only to hit this huge roadblock during user registration beta testing!
Similar to the above, my site is a DJ and fan based members only community, which I have an approval mechanism setup and account registration types to be approved as a DJ. In order to approve new DJ profile submissions efficiently I need admins to easily be able to review profile details to see if it meets all criteria before approving. I thought I would be able to manage this simply in the WP admin panel having purchased the BP User Account Type Pro plugin and using BP registration options, but apparently not so. And judging by the fact that noone’s really responded to the requests above I don’t anticipate getting an an answer anytime soon, but per chance someone is willing or able to assist or point me in the right direction, would appreciate any help or hacks I might be able to use to accomplish this as soon as possible!!
I know some html, have been learning css on the fly, and no real working knowledge of php, but clever enough to have figured most things out with firebug up to this point. Really hoping there’s something already developed out there though. Other than this forum the folks I’ve spoken to about WP haven’t got any knowledge of BuddyPress so I’m gonna be pretty disappointed if I can’t get an any help from my only resource here and have to shell out $$ to pay someone to develop something that should be a given based on the BuddyPress framework, conceptually speaking.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!!
Regards,
Se4n

KeymasterIf you’re using bbPress 2; as part of using that, did you disable the so-called “Group forums” component in BuddyPress?

I am using the buddypress 1.6.1 default theme. The activated plugins are bbpress and buddypress. There are other deactivated plugins. Does that help?
Thanks.

KeymasterYou can build it yourself, if you wanted. But i’d recommend you migrate to using the bbPress 2 plugin https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/migrating-from-old-forums-to-bbpress-2/

ParticipantHi @djpaul,
Im using “group forums” with buddypress 1.6.1 and WP 3.4.2.
I was wondering the above thing. Is it possible to have it in the “group forums”.
Cheers

KeymasterClick the field’s ‘edit’ button, and that’s where you change the description.
The email and password fields aren’t BuddyPress user profile fields, so they don’t appear in this screen.

KeymasterDeleting and replacing the files themselves is non-destructive. You’re fine to do it.

ParticipantI am having the exact same problem. I submitted it as a ticket:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4706
What is happening is its trying to redirect to the home tab, then the change default filter moves it to the other tab, which causes the loop.
Until its fixed simply add ‘/home’ to the line mentioned in the ticket.

Participant#1 there are a couple of options actually in your network admin network settings.
#2 you can also network activate the themes if choose.
#3 correct
#4 not necessarily if they understand css it should be fairly easy also depending on the built in them options they will not be able to “modify” the them files themselves
#5 buddypress certainly makes the whole site creation process more visible since a normal wordpress install doesn’t really do that at all (at least i don’t think it does).
#6 yes thats why they can’t do it only the network admin has the ability to add new theme/plugins.
#7 the only difference is the ability to admin their own sites but there are different settings to where they couldn’t even create them themselves (you’d have to activate any sub sites if you choose that option).
