    Hello Toby,

yes i know, but the normal bashing between people in my community is happening in messages, not the forum. It would be great to get this feature in buddypress. I think some people wait for that.

    #144879

Does it work with the default BuddyPress theme?

There was/is a bbPress plugin for this functionality, but it would likely only work on bbPress-core forums.

I don’t know if the BuddyPress roadmap includes this functionality at present; perhaps a moderator can chime in on that piece.

Yeah great idea default theme, why bothering with your site looking unique? Why i even bought expensive theme and widgets?

    What a ridiculous response…

BuddyPress requires that users activate their accounts after registering. The activation link is sent via email to the registrant. It is likely that either your php mail configuration is messed up or that the email in question went into the user’s spam folder.

In any case, you can use this plugin to manage activations: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-pending-activations/

This is a theme problem. Try using the default BuddyPress theme.

Yes, I’ve tried deactivating all plugins. Still no joy!

Hmm thanks @aces, I looked that over and it doesn’t seem to quite address my problem. The issue isn’t restricting usernames at signup in any way, I just want my login form to pass a username field which has spaces str_replaced to hyphens since my users keep forgetting to log in with their “login name” rather than their “display name”.

The answer might be to just write my own login widget, and do the replacement in PHP before calling the authentication. I was hoping for an easy filter that I could plug into though.

Just come back to see if there’s any progress on this post..
By the way, @nobodyridesforfree are you sure that put a custom error message on ‘/bp-themes/bp-default/registration/register.php’ is not enough for you? At least temporary, until you find better solution later.. just a thought .. :)

@fitnessblogger – Nice concept.. :) But I think it will be more exclusive if the site’s layout and icons customized so it won’t feel “so salutation”.. just a thought..
And one more, there is still “lorem ipsum” dummy text left on the register tab..
maybe you forgot to change that..?

    :)

    – If you prefer to hire people professionally, then you just need to find kind persons that good in moderating discussions, familiar with your niche, and also familiar with WordPress (familiar with BuddyPress is a plus).

    – Many sites choose some of their most active members to be a moderator. Just find and promote them to be moderators.

    – I believe shared hosting is enough to start.. Requirements will grow along with your members / activities progress and your site complexity.. Also read: https://buddypress.org/about/requirements/

(But anyway, it would be great if you learn how to use dot / period to separate sentences in a paragraph :D )

If you have run into a bug with BuddyPress, it may still prevent a successful upgrade. Anything lower than 6066 should do it (e.g. 6065); the upgrade nag should appear again in wp-admin. Backup first. Good luck :)

    – If you can tell more specific on what and why you can not figure out, then perhaps me or nice fellows here can help you.. but on top of that, you have found CubePoints for BuddyPress so you’re on the right way.. just go on.. :) read the documentation.. It’s easier than it looked I guess..

    – Also consider to try “Achievements For BuddyPress” plugin –> https://buddypress.org/community/groups/achievements/ by Paul Gibbs ( @djpaul )

Awesome.. Really love how Tamriel Foundry loaded fast (lightweight) though the site carries more than one thousand active members.. I’ll try to suggest some friends to check Tamriel Foundry and see if they can help contribute something.. :)

Exact same problem as @GordonRe, users successfully activate by following the emailed activation link, however this prompts them to enter a key even though their activation was successful.

From the activation template, the problem seems to be with:

This conditional must not be returning TRUE, otherwise the form would display the activation successful message. Not sure how best to approach this, but the autologin on successful activation plugin sounds like a potential alternative…

Thanks @djpaul, you guys really have built a fantastic platform. I’m still a novice when it comes to BP development, but the framework has slotted really nicely into the site, and all the social features (especially groups, which are mostly guilds for us) have been very popular!

    Update:
I also repeated the process above with the default buddypress theme activated and the problem issues were the same.

I also found from a post a couple of years ago that it could be that there was not a GD image package installed on the server. We have the following installed:

    GD Graphics Library version 2
GD is a graphics library. It allows your code to quickly draw images
complete with lines, arcs, text, multiple colours, cut and paste from
other images, flood fills, and write out the result as a PNG file.
This is particularly useful in World Wide Web applications, where PNG is
one of the formats accepted for inline images by most browsers.
    .
This is the runtime package of the library, built with XPM (X pixmap)
    and fontconfig support.
    Homepage: http://www.libgd.org/
    Original-Maintainer: GD team
    Package libgd2-xpm
    Class K-O
    Version 2.0.36~rc1~dfsg-3.1ubuntu1
    Vendor Ubuntu Core Developers
    Architecture amd64

I am having the same problem:

I am trying to upload a picture from my computer for an avatar. Size at 50×50 and 100×100 , 300×150 the pictures upload fine, then the crop picture button and select box, after expanding the selection box for cropping ( the section to be cropped shows up next to picture) clicking crop picture button, refreshes the screen and produces this error .. There was a problem cropping your avatar, please try uploading it again. Tried this multiple times in both current versions of FF and Chrome. Same results.

ps. I had buddypress media plugin installed after deleting the problem was the same.

A bit more background, tracked back the location of the avatar pictures – wp-content/uploads/avatars ; The owner and group on the dir, subdir, and files are siteower and siteowner just like all of the other folders and files – the directory was set to 755 and files to 644; there were jpgs in my avatar folder for all my attempts at adding an avatar. Just to see what happened I changed all the files to 755 and attempted another upload, same error and the uploaded file had the permission set at 644.
    Process details:
The upload worked , then the crop function fired and after including the full 100×100 image in crop selection and clicking crop. The Same “here was a problem cropping your avatar, please try uploading it again.” Error came up again.

    Any suggestions?

Not sure. Have you checked if issue is resolved if you deactivate that membership plugin?

== User registration is currently not allowed ==
@kanat007 This is basic WordPress function. Go to wp-admin Settings > General and go to the line where you can enable registration (off by default) and Save settings.

First, do not upload the WP theme you’re going to use in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/ like you did in your site.
    – Backup server files and DB. Deactivate BP and change to Twenty Eleven theme.
    – Move over Techline theme folder to wp-content/themes/
    – Activate BP then activate your Techline theme
