ParticipantThanks @inkblot but BP does manage the registrations, not WP — IE how it used to disable uppercase characters because of conflicts within BP. I’ll take a look at that plugin later – for some reason the Plugin directory isn’t loading properly atm.

Participant@chiangmai – It could be because it’s not compatible with BP, I’m not familiar with that plugin but not all WP plugins are compatible with the BP registration process.
I’ve had success with Wanguard and asking a specific question. I’ve only had one spammer come through in the last month. I tried other CAPTCHA plugins before, and the CAPTCHA wouldn’t show in IE.

@mercime
Participant== followed your instructions (in a previous thread) which has worked with alignment, however the styling of BuddyPress is now wrong. ==
@wizza unless the instruction is for the Sportsmag theme, please do not copy any given in any previous thread. Open up your theme’s header.php file, copy all code, paste in pastebin.com, click submit, and post the generated URL here. Do the same for your theme’s index.php, page.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files. We’ll see.

ParticipantNo plugin available at this time. You’d have to code it yourself or hire a developer to do so.

KeymasterWhat happens when you switch the theme to the BuddyPress Default theme?
Do you have any plugins or code snippets (check the theme’s functions.php and /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php) that might be interfering with profile links?
October 21, 2012 at 10:29 pm #143775r-a-y
KeymasterThe “business-services” theme is probably an older BuddyPress theme; the theme developers shouldn’t be copying the ajax file into their theme without changing the ajax function names.
Try using a different theme if possible.

Searching doesnt work and everything is SOO Old.
And Google points here all the time.
Just finding reply button isnt easy.

Groups only matter in forums and if you choose site wide forums you can get rid of groups all together. That has nothing to do with private message one on one conversations. This issue still seems to be lacking a bit of logic. A PM only goes to the person you send it to anyway so essentially it is a one on one conversation. Not enabling friendships means you really cant use any of the great friendship based plugins like @r-a-y ‘s Private Messages For Friends Only, or my own plugin BP FriendPress which shows a facebook like activity stream that is dependent on friendship.
Taking friendships out of the equation is only going to limit what you can control in the long run so I personally would suggest reconsidering your options.October 21, 2012 at 2:01 pm #143765In reply to: Should install bbpress or buddypress first?

I agree probably should do it, but it ought to be implemented in the new version of bbPress rather than BuddyPress.

Participant@djpaul so sorry, you are right. I am using group email subscription – I was convinced it was core functionality (it feels like it should be). It’s @boonebgorges and @dwenaus plugin, I’ll see if I can find out more from them on their own support forum.

Keymaster1. Either. It doesn’t matter which order.
2. bbPress would continue working, as it’s a separate plugin. Deactivating BuddyPress won’t affect or delete your bbPress data.

ParticipantHello @mercime,
Again, thank you very much for your precious help !I did what you told me, but I don’t get it, it’s style not working.
It’s weird though, because the BP Twenty Ten doesn’t show the squares / list-style-type and other bugs : http://tinypic.com/r/2j1n5mg/6 ; but my BP Template packed theme does : http://tinypic.com/r/i4e9md/6This is the pastebin of the new style.css (I put the BP stuff at the begin) : http://pastebin.com/HJ8tuAEC
What am I missing ?
Thanks !October 20, 2012 at 4:58 pm #143743In reply to: Create private membership site with BuddyPress

ParticipantHi, recently worked on a datingsite, and a school intranet for BP and scanned 6 month of Getting BP private. Have a lot of notes -and one popped up when reading this post:
http://picklewagon.com/wordpress/new-user-approve/
“When a user
registers for the blog, the user gets created and then an email gets sent to
the administrators of the site. An administrator then is expected to either
approve or deny the registration request. An email is then sent to the user
indicating whether they were approved or denied. If the user was approved,
the email will include the login credentials. Until a user is approved, the
user will not be able to login to the site.”Try this as a start – didnt remember if I have (Went trough TONS of solutions of reg process, but I saved this link so maybe its useful…), The fix might be to preserve the passwords somehow instead of autocreate them when aproved.
/ Maybe gonna share my solutions later for the BP datingsite – lot of privacy filters and hooks…

ModeratorYou are better off letting email go to user but remove the activation link. Create a function that hooks into member sign up to email you separately. I’m suggesting this because its better conversion for users to get the email.
`function email_admin_user_signup() {
//email admin code here
}
add_action(‘bp_core_signup_user’, ’email_admin_user_signup’);`October 20, 2012 at 2:48 pm #143740In reply to: Create private membership site with BuddyPress

Participant@djpaul: Yes, but I want to redirect the “activate your account” e-mails to the site admin instead of the user to let the admin know that a new user has registred. I’m trying to figure out the best way to do this. Obviously I don’t want to edit core files, so best practice should be to use a filter to replace the users e-mail address with the site admin e-mail address I guess?
I found an old post regarding this here (from 2010):
http://www.thoughtsofjs.com/moderate-new-user-registration-in-buddypress.html
They’re editing core files there (bad!), but I found this in the comments as a function to achieve the above:
`
function filter_replace_with_moderator_email($user_email) {
return get_site_option( “admin_email” );
}
add_filter(‘bp_core_activation_signup_user_notification_to’, ‘filter_replace_with_moderator_email’);
`I added this to my themes custom functions.php-file but the e-mail is still sent to the user instead of the admin. Is there a change in BP 1.5 so that I need to change the hook in the filter? Does anyone know?
