@k12onos just to clarify, are you referring to the Group Forums (internal custom bbPress) or to Sitewide Forums (bbPress plugin)

If you saved database before upgrading, then install the WP/BP versions you had working with that DB and import the database to the installation. Then deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to Twenty Eleven theme before upgrading WP/BP to current versions. Activate bp-default theme after the upgrade and check everthing is working before activating plugins (which you should check if compatible with latest BP/WP versions before activating).

If you only saved database after the upgrade, then that’s a different story. I do hope you backed up DB before upgrading.

We have the same problem. We started a new church community, now we have over 100 members, but only the admin can see the user/member. Registered user/member are not in the memberlist. What could be the problem and how can we solve it? We also use a BuddyPress-Template.

@fiq I have to disagree. There has been plenty of occasions where non-developers pass down knowledge they have got from forum post to there support questions by non-developers as well as developers. If anyone has a solution to help someone out on the forum then by all means take the initiative to help. It doesn’t mean you have to be a developer to have a solution that was answered previously. It also doesn’t mean others won’t post a more practical solution. Basically what I am saying is most folks do a good job of paying it forward on the forum.

@FIQ How do you come to the conclusion that BuddyPress is a plugin mostly for developers? Its social networking in a box just like it says. It works fine out of the box for most uses and has plenty of plugins available for extendability. I agree with @hnla. There is plenty of resources all over the net like http://www.w3schools.com/ for coding instruction. If they need customization beyond the default package they have two choices and they are learn to walk before you run meaning learn to code yourself, or hire a developer to do the work. Just my opinion!

Please checkout /_inc/css/default.css in your theme folder, search for button and replace the css accordingly.

Keep in mind, that if you do this in your main bp-default folder your changes will be erased when you upgrade BuddyPress. Child-Themes are advised

Answer: You will need to integrate the new BP templates with your current theme. The plugin BP Template Pack guides you through this process and is available fro FWEE! in the plugins directory .

I am still finding my way around plugins/ addons but would normal wordpress plugins still work with buddypress?

Answer: This depends on the plugin and it’s functionality – to my knowledge, trial and error is the bestway

Just go into one of the plugins and change the function the error refers too. Thus happens when people copy a plugin and don’t change function names.

@shawn38 Yes I agree to a point. It depends greatly on traffic, plugins, etc. But, it seems from what he wrote he is beyond that point. It is technically possible to run on a shared sever, but if your goal is to create a popular site you will need to switch to dedicated at some point. That point is different for everyone, but everyone that uses BP should be prepared to make that move at some point and it can come faster than you think. It’s my personal opinion that you should start out dedicated if possible so you don’t have to deal with the pain of moving later. You should at the very least find a shared host that allows for easy expansion.

Hostmonster and Bluehost should never be used. I’m sure there are more to add to that list, but those I have confirmed will throttle you regardless of users or plugins.

That is really a matter of conjecture. I have many buddypress sites running on a shared servers. The only time I ever had an issue was when I used an ajax chat plugin. Every since I have used a hosted chat plugin like envolve I have not had a site get shut down for CPU overload on the server. Just saying!
