Keymaster@FIQ Please stop trying to take these discussions off-topic. I don’t understand where you’er getting your views from; karmatosed and Hugo have been quite accurate.

Member@hnla I didn’t suggest it, she did….
“ @karmatosed : Things like you are suggesting are far more theme than UI. I could see it being done as a released theme or being done as a custom theme. Just seems over kill for a default UI. I could be wrong but didn’t you bring that up before @ubernaut and it was vetoed?”
I don’t have a problem if the developers want to make these decisions on their own. That’s fair, they put in the hours to get it this far. What upsets me is wasting our time asking for feedback on things that are set in stone.

ParticipantTHANKS A TON!!! You have made me achieve 100% of what I was thinking of, your fix has worked like a charm..
Unfortunately I do not know php as yet so I could not make your entire code work for me but yes a combination of what you have given and what I had has done the trick.
I picked up `&& !is_admin()` from your code and edited `&& !user_can( $user, $capability )` to `&& !current_user_can(access_s2member_level1)` and added it to the piece of code I had. This worked totally!
I’m truly thankful to you.
I wish you all the very best for the good work you do

ParticipantBuddyPress requires “pretty permalinks”, i.e. Settings > Permalinks is set to other than default setting. mod_rewrite must be enabled in your server.

MemberI should note that I did not have to replace the .htaccess files. Deleting the bbpress plugin via FTP recovered the dashboard.
September 4, 2012 at 1:45 am #140873In reply to: Registered Users are not in the Member directory
@mercime
Participant@uhchurch there’s no problem. If you already have users in your WP installation for a while and just installed/activated BuddyPress, then those users need to log in at least once with BP activated in order to be “recognized and recorded” by BP. There’s a plugin – BP Disable Activation plugin – which worked before, but not sure if working on current BP version, check it out.

MemberI am also having this problem with bbpress. Tried twice to install, locked out of dashboard both times. BuddyPress install seems to work fine without it. I host with Bluehost; is there some setting there I should be looking at?

Inactive@jesse_james It would be great if this option to ban certain domains was built into the core. Maybe make a ticket on trac. Not sure they will approve it but it never hurts to request it because spam seems to be a constant issue with BP and having the ability to ban a entire domain that is famous for enabling spammers from registering would help save a lot of long term grief.

Participant@FIQ it is somewhat churlish to suggest things are already decided and a little rude, I have said get stuck in and help guide this you clearly have a level of understanding so don’t be put off put those views across and DO attend the dev chats.

Moderator@FIQ: That’s quite an assumption to make, personally I thought through my wireframes. I’m not going to really comment on the exercise allegation as the developer chats are showing it’s not just that. You are free to check this by reading the irc logs: https://irclogs.wordpress.org/chanlog.php?channel=buddypress-dev (Wednesday 19:00 UTC is the developer chat). You are welcome to your opinion but please come along to see the action rather than assuming. Also please recognise those of us that are trying to do something here not just dismiss our work. We work together to a solution here not against each other and you are more than welcome to be part of that solution.

MemberIf you have already run the install using the “buddypress out of the box” option, and need to get back to where you have options to install different theme support, just switch your theme temporarily to a theme that lacks buddypress support. It will then give you a message with the options to get buddypress themes (and clicking on that link in the message will take you to a plugin download page with the buddypress theme pack and other specific theme plugins you should install) OR the option to have buddypress help you modify your own theme, which will be a 3-step process in which buddypress will copy theme folders over to your theme folder, and then will give you instructions on how to modify the buddypress pages to match your theme.

Who is vetoing stuff? What is the point of these topics if it has already been decided. I don’t think any of these “wireframes” have been thought through. I don’t think it matters what anyone says here, this is just an exercise in fishing for people that already agree with what has already been decided.September 3, 2012 at 7:21 pm #140849In reply to: Need Help With Alignment
@mercime
Participant@newbie2011 first of all, congratulations on fixing alignment of your Members Directory page for Step 3 of the BP compatibility process

The difference between members directory page from the activity page was that the div surrounding the content for members directory was `
` which had paddings and margins in your stylesheet while the div surrounding the activity was `` which had no style associated with it at all.So either you change the div in all the remaining BP template files from `
` to `` or, just make the change in stylesheet
from
`.bpcontent {
margin: 0 0 10px;
padding: 10px;
}`
to
`#bpcontent,
.bpcontent {
margin: 0 0 10px;
padding: 10px;
}`Btw, initial scan of your theme shows that you have the option of creating on two files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php, to make your theme compatible with BP instead of revising the 16 BP template files transferred to your theme folder in server. FYI.

Participant@hepdoll glad you resolved this on your own

The instruction was included in the plugn’s Installation instruction “Activate BuddyPress in the “Plugins” admin panel using the “Activate” link. You’ll then see a message asking you to complete the BuddyPress Installation Wizard, which will guide you through configuring your site for BuddyPress”
Also, for those who might land on this page from search -> https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/
September 3, 2012 at 6:21 pm #140844@mercime
Participant@k12onos just to clarify, are you referring to the Group Forums (internal custom bbPress) or to Sitewide Forums (bbPress plugin)
September 3, 2012 at 6:16 pm #140843In reply to: New topics showing in more than one forum
@mercime
ParticipantIf you saved database before upgrading, then install the WP/BP versions you had working with that DB and import the database to the installation. Then deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to Twenty Eleven theme before upgrading WP/BP to current versions. Activate bp-default theme after the upgrade and check everthing is working before activating plugins (which you should check if compatible with latest BP/WP versions before activating).
If you only saved database after the upgrade, then that’s a different story. I do hope you backed up DB before upgrading.

Member@shawn38 Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that people are not paying it forward. Quite the opposite. The point of this was to suggest ways to help developers save time when replying.
The part about these forums being “mainly” for developers wasn’t implying anything, it was just stating a fact. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. My only point was to have a place to direct them to for FAQ that may not be BP related.

MemberWe have the same problem. We started a new church community, now we have over 100 members, but only the admin can see the user/member. Registered user/member are not in the memberlist. What could be the problem and how can we solve it? We also use a BuddyPress-Template.

Inactive@fiq I have to disagree. There has been plenty of occasions where non-developers pass down knowledge they have got from forum post to there support questions by non-developers as well as developers. If anyone has a solution to help someone out on the forum then by all means take the initiative to help. It doesn’t mean you have to be a developer to have a solution that was answered previously. It also doesn’t mean others won’t post a more practical solution. Basically what I am saying is most folks do a good job of paying it forward on the forum.

Member@shawn38 I was talking about the forums are mostly for developers. If BP wants to be used by everyone, this site should at least try and to be patient with them. One of the biggest things lacking with the BP project is a little salesmanship. If you can help someone what does it matter if it is “beyond the scope of the default package?”
