Participant@RogerCoathup Thanks for that I will look in to it- it didn’t happen to me when I built first edition on local server. It may be one of a number of plugins, I will test each one to see if they cause problem and then try another theme. Shouldn’t be the theme because custom community theme is supposed to be compatible with BP but hey ho you never know.
@cj-kruger Yes I think I am, BP Klout and BP Twitter. I’ll look to see how it goes but at the moment the two plugins seem to be fine together unless of course they are causing the problem.
I will test this week and report back. Thanks all.

Participantit’s not a function itself… it’s a call to the do_action() function, passing ‘bp_after_sidebar_me’ as the parameter. The call is being made in sidebar.php in the bp-default template folder.
You can find these things by searching through a buddypress install in any good code editor / development environment.
do_action() itself is defined in the core WordPress files. In this case, do_action() will invoke any functions that you hook onto the bp_after_sidebar_me action.

ParticipantI deleted the 6 folders, as I edited some files previously, then went into Appearance>BP Compatibility. I didn’t see an option to re-run it. There was an option to reset it so I clicked it but it brought me back to step 3 and the folders were not recreated.
Should I uninstall the plugin then reinstall it?

MemberI’m using a theme called Salutation, and I used the workaround discussed here: https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/developer-and-designer-information/ under “Member settings pages are blank”
This worked, but there’s no CSS / HTML formatting, everything is just stacked on top of each other. It seems as if it just needs a page template to feed off of in order to display correctly. Is there some way I can point the BuddyPress settings files to my WordPress settings page or vice versa?

Participant@frank13 — there is no specific script for a do_action ( ‘abc123’ );
You have to register functions (hooks) that are invoked by the do_action — check out these pages from the WordPress Codex for more information on programming actions: https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API

@mercime
Participant== I’ve since researched and have found the fix by moving the settings from buddypress member folder to the theme member folder. ==
@matthewmsexton what theme are you using? Default BP installation does not require moving any settings to “theme member folder”. Change to bp-default theme to set up and explore BP components/features.

Participant== When I undelete the six folders the problem solved ==
Note that I said to delete the six BP folders in wp-content/themes/complete only If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your complete theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process. If you did not make any revisions, then you do not have to delete the BP folders. Also, if you did delete the BP folders, then per instruction above, then run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files..
Not clear where the blank pages are. Even so, check out https://codex.buddypress.org/troubleshooting/blank-pages/

MemberPerfect. Thanks @mercime. Appreciate your help…
I typically post my questions in both the WP forum and this forum. It seems to increase my chances of getting assistance from “never getting assistance” to “getting some assistance within a few days”. Both forums are not as active as many others out there on the net that I participate in.

MemberThanks @EyeMagicGraphics — I am using the Dynamic Widgets plug-in. It has a very peculiar glitch in it.
I created a static text widget in WP. Then I use Dynamic Widgets to have the static text widget appear only on a certain page and all of its child pages.
The glitch is that (from every WP & DynWidg setting I have tried) I can only get the text widget to appear on the child ages. I cannot get it to appear on the parent page.
So I give up after 4-5 days of effort and just want to go into the production of the sidebar code and hard code my widget.
I’ll have a look at your suggestion on “Conditional Logic” and see where that leads me.
July 16, 2012 at 9:49 am #137371In reply to: Midddle column now has a directory – Easel Theme
@mercime
ParticipantFirst you need to activate the BuddyPress plugin.
Second, you need to install the BP Template Pack plugin and go through Appearance > BP Compatibility
Third, realign BP template files, see https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/easel-theme-buddypress-alignment-problem/
July 16, 2012 at 9:11 am #137369@mercime
Participant== I can’t seem to save/change the Page Attributes of the BuddyPress created pages. ==
It’s because you can’t do that at this time @blinkybill01.
BP pages are using the BP template files transferred during the compatibility process, the very same files we’re going to revise here.== Also, I’ve noticed that with the most recent WordPress update, I’ve been getting more and more 406 errors. Is this something I should contact my hosting company about? ==
Haven’t encountered those errors yet. Yes, you should contact your webhost since 406 errors are usually related to suhosin security extension or Apache mod_security and the like.

Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterIf you only want sitewide forums (not group forums as well):
In wp-admin in BuddyPress > Components, disable the “Forums” component. Go to the Pages menu in wp-admin, and if you have a page called “forums”, delete it (you don’t need it any more).
In wp-admin, go to Plugins > Add New, and search for and install and activate the “bbPress” plugin. You should see something like version 2.1 of that plugin.Once done, you should be able to start using bbPress for sitewide forums. If you have specific questions about how to make bbPress do non-BuddyPress things, the best place to ask is on bbpress.org.

July 15, 2012 at 10:04 pm #137358In reply to: Custom Profile Fields not shown on members profiles
Roger Coathup
ParticipantBuddyPress profile fields do show by default when you visit a profile. So, it sounds like either your theme, or a plugin is causing the problem.
Did you create your profile fields from the BuddyPress menus in wp-admin?
The most likely candidate for the problem sounds like the plugin you are using to add buttons and maps to the user profiles.
Try deactivating that plugin – do the profile fields show?
Try switching to bp-default theme – do the profile fields show?
If they are still not showing — deactivate all your plugins except BuddyPress, use the default theme, and go to the Profile Fields section in wp-admin … are they definitely set up correctly in there? Are privacy settings correct? Do the profile fields show now in the front end?
By breaking your search down for a solution step by step like this, you’ll be able to determine what is causing the problem (your theme or one of your plugins).

ModeratorTo change text in BuddyPress you need to create a language file. You don’t have to translate to another language you can still use english. It’s a way to change words without fear of upgrading and loosing changes later on.

Roger Coathup
ParticipantYou can also try increasing your PHP memory (as indicated by the error message you’ve received)… you should then be able to run BuddyPress without problem on your site.
There are many ways to increase PHP memory (including some specific to WordPress)… please have a Google to find those.
July 15, 2012 at 9:56 pm #137354Roger Coathup
ParticipantIt sounds like you want to create a directory page for all the pages on your site… is that correct?
The BuddyPress directories only exist for BuddyPress components like groups, members, etc.
The pages on your site are just standard WordPress pages. If you want to create a directory page that lists them all, you would need to write your own template file with a custom WP_Query loop that just returns pages, or perhaps use a WordPress API function to return all pages.
For more information on how to do this, you should visit the documentation on WordPress: https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

With these instructions i get eg: domain.com/register full load of theme but empty page/post page or domain.com/index.php/register stripped CSS version but registration of BP appears
(checked nginx rules, also default BP theme works like a charm)
