    @merime

    I managed to get it to work now… I do the hard way, reset everything and start all over under a new folder /dev. Its working. But alignment is Out a Little.

    http://learningdigitalphotography.net/dev/register/

    But when i register myself as a new user, it doesn;t give me any activation code… i just register and approved it via a link sent to my email.
    I wanted to add this plugin to allow sharing of photo…
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-easy-albums-photos-video-and-music/

    I believe this photo sharing plugin works? How can i integrate them into my site?

    There’s also this plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-user-account-type-lite/ but you would have to add some redirects to special registration pages with different profiles for respective users.

    WP/BP versions? If multisite, is BP installed in main site or in subsite?
    Did you install WP via Network Solutions webhost script or did you install WP manually i.e. via FTP? If webhost script, start from scratch and upload WP manually.

    == When i click on install group forum… nothing happens. ==

    Looking at your site, your Forums for Groups is already installed, otherwise there would be no “Forum” tab in your Group’s page like so http://faithteam.org/faithnotes/groups/faith-team/forum/.

    Check that there’s a bb-config.php in the root of your WP installation in server (root == where you would also find the wp-config.php file), open up bb-config.php and double-check that the database DB information is the same as that of the database information in your wp-config.php file.

    Go to your Group Forums Directory at http://faithteam.org/faithnotes/forums/ and right beside the page title “Forums Directory”, you should see a “New Topic” button and click on it.

    == I had to install bbpress in a separate install. is that the problem? Can it be fixed? ==

    You could also install the bbPress plugin aka Sitewide Forums in your BuddyPress installation. I suggest however, that we resolve the Group Forums (internal bbPress) issue before implementing Sitewide Forums. Unless you don’t want Forums for Groups anymore? …

    == You’ll notice the drop down menu is getting cut off on all the BP pages. ==

    Do you mean the BuddyPress select/dropdwown box? If so, see my note in D) above where I mentioned “You might also want to check out the style modifications made in BP Twenty Ten for reference … ” Add those styles to the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet.

    Thank you for starting a new topic.

    No, but it’s always good practice to backup your database and server files (including plugins and themes) regularly especially before upgrading site (BP or WP) and also before making major changes to your site.

    – WP 3.3.1 and BP 1.5.5, right?
    – Check BuddyPress > Components panel, are forums and groups enabled (they are by default)?
    – Groups: When you say you cannot access groups, do you mean you cannot create groups?
    – Forums: Which forum are you having an issue with, Group Forums or Sitewide Forums? Did you check this out https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

    Please do not install BuddyPress Links, it’s not compatible with BP 1.5
    The version compatible with BP 1.5 is now premium https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-links/forum/topic/buddypress-1-5-support/

    == I tried to create a group name under profile setting, But it can’t allow me to create one ==

    First, in your new test site, do not activate any plugin except BuddyPress; and only use the bp-default theme.

    Just so we’re on the same page, when you say you created a “group name”, do you mean you clicked on the button “Add New Group”? Only the fields you create in the base group will show up in the registration form.

    Test: click on “Add New Field” as seen here https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-components/#bp-xprofiles then add a field with description and save. Log out. Then clear cache and go to registration page.

    buddypress-links would be the plugin directory/folder not a file. In that message the file is bp-links-core.php.

    Is your error message exactly the same? If you quote it, please use backticks ( “` ) so it doesn’t get mangled by this website….

    To get back into the site’s admin it is sometimes necessary to disable all plugins but it would be better, normally, to disable one at a time or based on your error message….

    I’m having the same issue, but when accessing my site via ftp there is no plugin file called buddypress-links.

    I’ve looked in wp-content/plugins – is this correct?

    @emaarkhan if you have a WordPress theme (or a child theme thereof), install and activate the BP Template Pack plugin and go through Appearance > BP Compatibility process. Walkthrough of Twenty Ten Child theme with BP Template Pack – https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/

    Avatar upload have never been allowed on this site. The theme just needs updating to remove that option. To set a picture, use gravatar.com, as suggested above :)

    I suggest (via FTP or similar) that you go into your /plugins/ folder and rename all BuddyPress plugins. This should deactivate those plugins, allowing you back into the backend. You can then rename and reactivate those plugins.

    As I said, I’ve tried to desactivate all plugin except Buddypress.
    Common plugins related to Buddypress on those site: BpDev Stealth Mode for Site admin, BP Group Management, BuddyPress Group Email Subscription, Events Manager, U BuddyPress Forum Attachment.
    I only see one thing that may have made a difference: before I’ve reverted the primary field to its original state (Name), I was using a different name (Prénom et Nom). Usually this primary field was related to the WordPress field “Name to be displayed publicly” (or something like that). Can it make the data not beiing save because it can’t find the user’s related ID? (It is only speculation, I have no understanding of how it works) And if so, how can I reverted this primary field data value? Deleting it from the database and recreating it?
    Thanks

    In reply to: Find friends option?

    @elgunvo, any news on this plugin?

    Thanks

    @funmi omoba:

    At the top of members-loop.php replace the following code:

    `

    with: <?php /* My Custom Member Query to order alphabetical by default */
    function my_query_filter_new ( $query_string ) {
    $query_string .= ‘&per_page=15&type=alphabetical’;
    return $query_string;
    }
    add_filter( ‘bp_ajax_querystring’, ‘my_query_filter_new’ );
    ?>

    `

    Note : you can change per page to any number you want

    work like a charm

    regards

    Alan, you don’t have to use the BP Default OR the other plugin to create your own theme. You can create whatever theme you want if you know how. Just tag your style.css with ‘buddypress’ and it will show as a buddypress ready theme. The assumption is that you’ll know how to build that template.

    I would say that most people don’t really know how to go about building a template from scratch yet, but as Buddypress gets bigger and more documentation is available, then it will become more commonplace.

    PJ we still don’t know what files you found to be an issue, Paul has applied a patch/fix for an issue where avatar paths are hardcoded to ‘http’ – as I suggested might be the issue or one of the issues – knowing exactly what files you had issue with would still help to confirm this is actually the problem.

    If the baseurl is correctly set to ‘https’ then ‘http’ isn’t an issue, it’s only an issue at present as the secured page attempts to retrieve objects from a non secured protocol ‘http’

    Paul’s links to a ticket where he’s added a patch for the avatar issue this – when included – would normally appear in the next release (1.6) could be ported back to 1.5 branch?, but you may need to add the workaround to your files for the moment.

    Have you a link to this site? Is it possible for us to see the mixed content in action?

    I have contacted my host and checked and confirmed all the setting on the server can support BP.

    I create a sub-folder named dev/ and manually installed WP 3.3.1. and then upload the WP-Content folder, and create a new DB and uploaded the DB files into my new DB. That was what i did.

    I tried to create a group name under profile setting, But it can’t allow me to create one.

    That’s so much i have done, but still cannot get the BP up and running.
    I don;t know what else i can do…

    Hmm, I’m a bit confused.

    So I have to change all instances of http in all of my files to https?
    Even if avatars are forced to https why would http be an issue?

    Paul, did you find a fix or do I have to wait for another version to come out?

    I don’t think I follow. Unless you are using the default BP theme you have to use the other plugin also. Unless you are assuming 99% of users are using the default theme, why not just make one plugin instead of two?

    This plugin works in thousands of sites. Re-reading your previous posts, have you checked whether you can add profile fields in BuddyPress > Profiles in base group? Have you contacted your host’s tech support and/or checked your forums re any issues about BuddyPress installations?
