Hi,

I am having this same issue after updating WordPress to 3.5.1 and Buddypress to 1.6.1 last night.

When trying to upload an avatar, I get this error message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_create_thumbnail() in /home/site-name/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-avatars.php on line 521

But if I use a small image (150×150) it uploads with no errors. The cropping tool did seem to be a bit out of sorts, but I got it to work by playing with it a bit.

So it seems that it is related to image dimensions, presumably related to the cropping tool??

Please help!

I give you my opinion and tried to explain you how this is working. Maybe i’m wrong, maybe not. And my english is not the best for explaining such subtilities.

Perhaps others like @hnla or @mercime will give you better advice.

hello,

im having problembs with my layout.

im useing Pageline and buddypress 1.7,

problem is that the dropdown menu that is suppose to be right after Order by:
gets pushed down one row,

@chouf1 thank you for being so explanatory!

Let me explain what I need/want. I do mind for the looks of the community I’m building. That means that I want my site to be eye appealing and easy to use. In my opinion designing a beautiful UI is one thing and there are many more. How users/members see each other inside this community and how easily they can search and find one another is important to me.

There are three main reasons that I prefer real names over usernames:
1. They are more easy on the eye. It’s better to see “John Smith” than “john_23” or “johnny_s_12”.
2. It is easier to find “friends” searching with real names. When I meet someone they introduce themselves with their names, not with usernames. So, later I can search for them with ease.
3. When registering using usernames, there are many chances that your first 3 or 4 choices to be already taken and you would have to select a username that even you couldn’t easily remember or like. But if the only parameter for uniqueness was the email address, you could use the same name as someone else without any problems.

I know that users might not want to use their real names, but I want them to have the choice…

As for the FB autoconnect, it’s not something I “absolutely want”. In fact it wasn’t even in my original plans. It came to me as idea while I was searching for ways to work around the usernames.

I am using WordPress 3.5.1 and Buddypress 1.7.

I am using the Buddypress extended profile fields and am having issues with the display when editing profile fields. For example, I have a state list where the user can check what states apply to them (checkbox type field). This is currently a vertical list so it displays 52 options straight down. What I need to do is have the ability to display large profile options like this in a horizontal format so the fields list left to right and continue on the next line. I am not sure where to edit to make this change specifically.

I am using the child theme Frisco – Buddypress if that helps.

I want to make use of the BuddyPress Template hierarchy as described here: http://codex.buddypress.org/developer/theme-development/a-quick-look-at-1-7-theme-compatibility/

However if I add a ‘community.php’ file to my theme then it doesn’t get picked up.

My theme is a child theme of the buddypress default theme – and I am running version 1.7.

Does anyone know how to make this work with a child theme?

Dashboard disappears when using CourseWare 0.9.7 and BuddyPress 1.7 on WordPress 3.5.1. Edit course button also does not work, it sends a 404.

Some things I like about bbPress 2.2.4 and BP 1.7 – support of BP Group forums and the ability to search not only topics but also forum text, rich text input, plenty of bbPress enhancements eg quotes, signatures etc.
However only one thing is holding me back from implementing this in my main forum, and that is the Forums page does not display the discussion listing

You can see the problematic page in my forum here
I just edited the Forums page and placed the code in it
I have disabled all plugins and used the default BP theme but still no go

BTW, I followed the bbPress installation guide here:

This last step is driving me nuts so until it is solved in this minor forum of mine, I can’t implement bbPress in my other major site

@mercime thanks for clarifying that because I didn’t know.

My point is if users open a support thread and we have a form that is required for them to fill out then it gives them no option other than to supply the basic info we need to assist them. I don’t intend to be harsh but I just would like it if we had that info in advanced before having to ask for it. I hope this makes sense as it would help all that voluntarily give there time to the forum. As far as the users not knowing the fields are mandatory then we can use whats built into BuddyPress and make those fields required. Does this make sense guys?

@thatmtnman Sorry to read that you’re still cannot get BuddyPress working in your site. Indeed, BuddyPress 1.7 has been created and tested by professional developers in as many environments as possible. If you believe there’s a bug, please feel free to post a new ticket in Trac https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/

For the first point, what I meant was some people like reading just an “official” review of a movie by the main reviewer, and may not want to read commentary by others in the community.

So you’re saying with group meta I can create a new filter in the Order By drop down menu? Or create a completely different interface for displaying the list of groups based on any number of criteria?

@billy-not-happy not clear. “Archive Slugs > forums base” is the slug used for the sitewide forums directory. Could you clarify further?

We need to make it mandatory for support requests to provide certain requirements when folks ask for those support request. It would make it so much easier if it was mandatory that they provide the info @modemlooper provided. I guess my point is it would streamline and take the guesswork out of the process! I am not enjoying asking people all the time what version of WP an BP are they using. It should be included in there support request.

What you can do is copy of the URI of the topic https://buddypress.org/support/topic/when-asking-for-support-2/ and paste it when you respond to inquiries with incomplete information.

I have:

version 1.7 of Buddy Press
version 2.2.4 of BB Press
I have forum base set to General Forums
I have the slug set to all-forums
I’m using the Razor theme from Parallelus which fully supports BuddyPress and BBpress

The issue is NOT getting either BB press or Buddy Press to work, they do as you can see visiting this test page and looking first at the side bar, then then try the choices under community.

Excess the trolls, I haven’t cleaned house, but leaving them for now shows things work as far as posting.

All I need to do and can’t no matter what I change is show a list of forums under Community like I do for Groups. All but one forum was created in version 1.6. You can see I created a new test forum in version 1.7.

Please help!

Ok so this needs to be revisited cause I didn’t get it to work correctly. I have an MU site, and when I put buddpress.php in buddypress directory:
/childTemplate/buddypress/buddypress.php

It cancels out my homepage sidebar?

How am I supposed to do this to remove the sidebar from the member homepage only?

Currently, none of the user locator map plugins for BP sites work. BP Members Avatar Map seemed to have the most going for it…

Seems like a perfect addition to any BuddyPress site.

Maybe someone could try to resurrect it?

@ginzobeat BuddyPress is not the issue. Something has gone wrong with your installation when it spits out URl’s with domain name http://www.collabotation.com in the middle and compounded components like: members/luzikd/activity/groups/www.collabotation.com/feed/?acpage=3

I see you have a 404 when I tried http://www.collabotation.com/members/luzikd based on the URL above, but found that there is a http://www.collabotation.com/member/luzikd
– I presume that you did not go through the Installation Wizard? https://codex.buddypress.org/installation-wizard/ or did you?
– Go to wp-admin dashboard Settings > BuddyPress > Pages and double check that Pages are assigned to BuddyPress components activated.
– is this a single WP site or a multisite installation?
– if multisite, did you use domain mapping to point to your site with BP instealled?
– what’s in your .htaccess file
– change MADE theme to BP-Default theme and check URL’s

5. Was WordPress functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress (BP)? e.g. permalinks, creating a new post, commenting.

6. Which version of BP are you running?

7. Did you upgraded from a previous version of BP? If so, from which version?

8. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, which ones?

9. Are you using a standard WordPress theme or customized theme?

10. Which theme do you use ?

11. Have you modified the core files in any way?

12. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php?

13. If running bbPress, which version? Or did your BuddyPress install come with a copy of bbPress built-in?

14. Please provide a list of any errors in your server’s log files. https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress

15. Which company provides your hosting?

16. Is your server running Windows, or if Linux; Apache, nginx or something else?

17. Which BP Theme are you using?

18. Have you overloaded any BuddyPress template files.

19. Any other site customisations that might have a bearing on the issue?

20. What BP Template Pack is activated in your installation? You will see that under Dashboard > Settings > BuddyPress – Options page.

Basic Trouble Shooting:

Before posting your question please run some essential trouble shooting.
These steps are essential to correctly identifying where the issue might lie and it’s essential that they are done in advance of any questions being raised, also running a search on keywords related to your issue might return previous threads that could help.

1. Identifying whether you have a theme issue: Many issue are often custom theme related, it is important to determine if this is the case with your issue; to do this please activate a theme that is known to behave correctly with BuddyPress, that will be any theme that is in the default install from WP so choose either ‘twentysixteen, ‘twentyseventeen’ or a later one. Having activated one of these theme check again if you still have the same issue, if you haven’t then this tells us it’s theme related, and in the first instance you should contact the theme author for help. If no help is forthcoming from the theme author then certainly post a question on the BP help forum, but please bear in mind forum support is limited where third party themes are concerned.

2. Plugins: many issues are caused by plugins, especially where JavaScript is concerned to try and narrow things down deactivate all plugins non essential to BP functioning and then re-active one by one until the issue reappears.

3. BP Themes: Is the issue specific to the theme configured in Dashboard->Settings->BuddyPRess->Options?

I am still on 1.6.5 and cautious to upgrade. Word of advice?
