MemberThis is my opinion only and my sole experience.
I did try the membership plug from wpmu and it got on my nerves. The learning curve is WAaaaaYYYY!!! to big and it takes forever to make it work. Also the costumer support Is really bad, specially if you live in the US. The hour differentials are way to extreme and if you need “fast help”, believe me, you won`t get it.
I did got my full refund and use the money to buy some books to see if I could build my own plugs.
I`ll be trying the s2members today, I`ll get back with my results.

MemberAnother thing, do anyone know how to get the buddypress avatar to show up in backend too? Not only front end? Since in the dashboard, it is just the default wordpress avatar. Maby also the gravatar will show up there if the user is registered at gravatar (haven’t tested yet). But anyway, I would like to display the buddypress avatar here. Possible?

ModeratorWelcome to open source, you’re going to love it as there are many pieces of the code puzzle already created for you,especially with WordPress and BuddyPress. If you do get involved in open source projects please give back by releasing your custom code to be used freely by others. Any plugin/theme you get from wordpress.org is under a GPL license and you can take that code and do whatever you wish with it.
You can use the s2 membership plugin with BuddyPress to create a membership site.

MemberI second that feature request archonic. The friend requirement is especially ridiculous when using buddypress as a LSM with Scholar Press.
ParticipantIf you’ve been hacking your theme, you might want to install Theme Check plugin just to make sure that everything’s kosher. Then to make your WP theme compatible with BuddyPress, you will need to install/activate BP Template Pack plugin which will transfer 6 folders with BP template files to your active WP theme. MemberJust an update to this issue: Through working with @karmatosed we found that it was a problem, partially related to this ticket here: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3821 and were able to correct it.

I actually added a

to the bp_is_my_profile() check. Otherwise bad things were gonna happen

Keymaster@sameeraperera You’re correct that this is an xprofile-only problem.
In bp-default, we don’t show the options_nav at all (where subnav items appear) on others’ profiles. See https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.2/bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/profile.php#L12
This does not seem like the optimal design to me. I’ve opened a ticket to fix it in a future release: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3877 In the meantime, you can override members/single/profile.php in your theme, and remove the bp_is_my_profile() check.

I’ve disabled all of the plug-ins and have used the bp-default theme and still have the same problems. I’m going to create a trac ticket I suppose, but preferably I’d like my questions answered here.

For others out there tracking this same issue:
Increasing the memory limits did the trick. My current webhost had a 32MB memory limit and increasing it to 64MB allowed for Buddypress to FINALLY work. I was able to increase the memory limits using my webhost’s cPanel website (this is your webhosting account basically). There was a convenient video tutorial on my servers website that walked me through the steps.Thanks for your help mercime!

ParticipantThere is the free BP Album/Media https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-album/ but I don’t know if they have multiple photo albums or multiple uploads.
There is the premium BP Gallery which has done that out of the box since Jan 2010 http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-gallery/.

ParticipantI get what you mean. Integration of WP adminbar with BP buddybar into new WP Toolbar is already in BP trunk https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk – might come out in BP 1.6 if not earlier.

Member@mrandrewaustria – i’d suggest a more positive approach over the above reply.
if you can reproduce the issue consistently (via bp-default theme and disabled third party plugins) – create a trac ticket with the steps/details. I doubt the main developers are looking downward on people reporting issues (why would they?)
if the crop/favorite actions are not working – sounds like a javascript issue
for email – there are several action and filters hooks to use and different ways (client side or extend a custom register page)
