ParticipantI have the same problem , my website is toooooooooooooo slow too , in general I think that buddypress is slow because all sites running buddypress I have ever seen seems to me that are slower than any other script , but buddypress has many plugins and much more functionalities than others , slowness of my website is my biggest problem , as hnla adviced to deactivate all plugins one by another , I did it , but never mentioned some difference , I have 60 plugins running . Hope that I will resolve it somehow in future , opening every page for 5 seconds is not good at all , there must be some bad combination of 2 or more plugins , not only one – in my case I guess .

Member@Histrion: You may have missed this on Buddydev’s site, but they clearly list the plugin as beta (beta 5 is the latest) and specifically indicate that the current release is not intended for live sites, but rather for testing to identify issues and improve the plugin:
“Bp chat is a facebook like chat plugin for BuddyPress. Currently, we have a beta release of it. I won’t say It is good enough for live sites yet, but yes, you can try your hands and help me improve it.”

MemberTo mercime question above:
1. @afrey which theme are you using? Does the problem occur if you use the bp-default theme?
2. Is this a new problem (ie. forum worked great before, but now doesn’t?) or has it always been broken since you installed buddypress?
3. Are you using the internal forum shipped with buddypress or an external bbpress (standalone or the new beta plugin?)
4. Does it happen all the time or just some of the time? Any commonality of when it happens?
5. What other plugins are you running?June 1, 2011 at 5:30 am #113557In reply to: Drop down menu in main nav bar stopped working

ParticipantDuplicate cross forum post. Please only post once on an issue double posting does not get a faster response.

Memberam sure its a clash between your theme files and the menu in BP? Am assuming you are aware that in order to get BP up and running, you need to have a BP theme… its different from any other wordpress theme… this might help you out: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

Member@christophg not having albums within a user’s photos was one of the biggest reasons i opted to go with buddydev.com’s premium plugin BP Gallery. It’s about 30$ to take the 3 month member, and a lot has been written both for and against this plugin, and the concept of paying money for plugins… but let me tell you this… BP Gallery is simply superb. Period. Its an amazing plugin, and even if BP Album + releases 1.9.. i doubt if they can get it like this… but there are a couple of issues with BP Gallery: rating and flagging of comments and pictures is still not yet implemented.. its work under progress… final word… go for BP Gallery… its wayyyy too cool to miss out on.

MemberI use buddydev.com’s BP Gallery… it satisfies what i need to be done for my site… but you do bring up a good point, and i too would actually be interested in that… i cam across the following plugins.. they are for videos, but may be they could work for photos as well… you could give it a shot:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/carousel-free-video-gallery/ (has a carousel effect built into it)

Member@Histrion its really easy dissing on what others do… please remember this is an open-source platform and buddydev.com is not obligated to give you a flawless piece of code… now, lets be realistic in our assesment of bp-chat from buddydev…
amongst all the available free chat modules out there, this one is the best… it has its flaws… not denying it, but its still under improvement. Give it another 6 months or so, and it’ll be really good.
until then, try having a looking at bowob.com… seems like it’ll work too.

MemberI’m using BoWoB http://www.bowob.com/ its a plugin for wordpress but works good with Buddypress as well, not a buddypress addon or anything but it works and its free.

MemberI would like this as it handles email, names properly but I don’t want to create login/register pages. I want to be able to add it or have it auto add itself like twit connect does.
I use the Buddypress Ajax login and twit connect adds nicely to it. It also add nicely to my wp-login page as well. Can you add this feature?

ParticipantDo you still have a plugin activated that modifies wp-login.php? If so, deactivate it.
Also check your theme’s main stylesheet to see if any styles are applied to div#login h1 a ‘cuz Firebug shows margins left & right:-90pxIf you can’t find anything, try adding the following to your theme’s stylesheet to override whatever’s causing those weird margins:
div#login h1 a {margin:0; !important}May 31, 2011 at 7:44 pm #113525In reply to: buddypress with si captcha and/or ReCaptcha

ParticipantProbably the theme does not have the proper hooks in it.
It was tested with BuddyPress Default 1.2.7 theme
Where do you get that theme? I can’t find it.May 31, 2011 at 7:30 pm #113524In reply to: BuddyPress upgrade group forums

ParticipantNever mind…. I’m an idiot….
I had a series of bb_ tables but the upgrade created a series of wp_bb tables. I will just copy the data.
Update: Copied the data, everything works fine now.

Participant@naved I’ve removed that posted file as it was causing issues and wasn’t the right type of file.
May 31, 2011 at 6:42 pm #113585Andrea Rennick
Participant@naved and post a liunk to your site so we can see what theme you;re using.
As hnla said, don;t paste long pieces of code liek that. and you;re looking in the wrong spot. that;s a core wp file which you will never edit. the linsk will show *dynamically* in your theme.

Participantin the theme folder that has your BP theme files. What are you actually running, is BP installed and activated, and are you using the default theme? if so the theme files live in the buddypress plugin directory but you shouldn’t edit them directly.

Participantlink to your site please.
I suspect it’s either permalinks or you haven’t finished setting up compatibility in your theme.
May 31, 2011 at 4:05 pm #113505In reply to: Registration email not being sent
Andrea Rennick
Participant“and it does support sending email and has for a few new user registrations.”
So it has actually *sent* mail.
Edit:
Your server is not the problem. Not entirely anyway. I signed up to your site and got two emails – one with an activation link and one confirmation email. Exactly like I am supposed to.
So your problem is *not* the server is not sending email. The problem is some of the people signing up are not getting them. Which means it’s mostly on their end. You can do a reverse dns entry, like @hnla stated above, but really that’s all you can do for some places like Hotmail & Comcast.

ParticipantI was just looking for BuddyPress or WordPress sites if they have the end of redirect trailing slash URL without duplicate content:
Who doesn’t have the redirect to trailing slash?
http://bp-tricks.com/members
http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/members
http://savannahvideocentral.com/members
http://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seoOnly this has working:
https://wordpress.org/about/philosophy
Most of them don’t even know the problem.
