Well as you have pointed out this is, like WP, an open source piece of work free to download and run, so sadly expecting any level of support is simply out of the question, what support there is, as you’re well aware, is free and provided by a voluntary group of users who have managed through using the software to gain a degree of knowledge and understanding which they attempt to use to help others out with.

I’m not sure if you asked a more detailed question elsewhere about your issue but based on this one it would be next to impossible to help you as you simply do not provide any technical detail on the issue that we would be able to use to start to figure out what may be the issue and provide feedback and help.

You might counter with the fact that as a newbie, technically unskilled, you are not sure how to provide this info but that is something that just has to be learned. There are posts describing what detail to supply in a thread which at least give us something to go on.

Your last comment about a need for more support may be true and that is where YOU come in! give back to the community help out on the forum as you learn and gain knowledge from using BP/WP, this is how tech forums survive and thrive YOU are the help!

Locking topic, too many old posts on this forum get resurrected, not generally an accepted practice on boards.

@n_sane a little advise if you really want help you must formulate a detailed question which describes the issue and any attempts at rectifying it, along with your setup in terms of app versions and server, simply stating there’s an issue will not get very far as we have to start asking you a whole series of questions just to get that detail from you, ergo much of our volunteered free time wasted.

Disable all WP and BP plugins except BuddyPress, change theme to bp default theme. Then check login by users. If users can log in, activate plugins one by one and activate custom theme and check which is the culprit.

BP Gallery plugin (paid) allows uploading media – images, audio, and/or video – in Activity Stream by individual user in addition to regular uploading in album section of BP site.

I would also suggest oEmbed (for buddypress), or maybe Buddypress Links, which offers similar possibilities.

More info needed, like WP/BP versions? Have you deactivated all plugins (which includes all BP and WP plugins, MU plugins and bp-custom.php) except BuddyPress and change theme to bp-default, cleared cache and checked if cropping works?

@modemlooper it looks that way, just a pity as Jeff says he has put in over a years work & has tested on current versions of BP.
It looked like an extremely promising plugin, can’t understand why he won’t let anyone see the code unless it never existed.

question to @boonebgorges @DJPaul & @apeatling, do you think this plugins code will ever be released or incorporated into core?
If not, are there any any other privacy options being worked on?

@satomom – No membership software. Just some basic PayPal subscription buttons and theme/function customizations based on whether a user is logged in or not. This method requires more oversight and maintenance (ex. if someone cancels their subscription), but it keeps everything simple for upgrades.

So mod_rewrite wasn’t loaded then? I hope I helped in asking for confirmation that it was or wasn’t it helps to check what phpinfo reports.

I would change that Debian distro for redhat centos or fedora they have much nicer default configs all geared up for getting of to a fairly quick start as a web server.

If you use a non BuddyPress theme then you need to do a little more work search for BuddyPress template pack plugin. Install and follow directions. This will move some extra theme files into your WordPress theme and include the necessary functions and JavaScript to run BuddyPress

Run phpinfo() what modules does it list under ‘loaded modules’ your looking for mod_rewrite to be in the list.

After that checks out you want to check your chown settings for directories, it tends not to matter what file permissions you set if the group and owner of the file and directory is wrong. Those file permissions simply set a series of permissions for Group, Owner, and Other but doesn’t set which group / owner.
