MemberIt’s easy.
Install WP 3.0.4 –> Enable Multisite –> Create a new blog called “buddypress”, “community” or the name you want –> Go to that new blog admin –> Plugins –> Install Buddypress
You’ll have now a frontpage blog with yopur purchased theme, and then a “false” blog with the buddypress characteristics.

MemberHaving some trouble with this myself.
Tried this with no avail. Using Graphene and just need to remove sidebar on BP pages. http://www.stThomasBBQ.org
I installed graphene first, then installed BP when I found it.
also tried this PHP code http://buddypress.pastebin.com/tkUDryN3 , added it to buddypress sidebar.php
I know a little css and php, but not sure what to try now.January 23, 2011 at 7:17 pm #103692In reply to: buddypress after installation not active in frontend

ModeratorYou need to use a BuddyPress compatible theme. Just activating BuddyPress on a WordPress site is not enough.

KeymasterRE: Achievements. If Vanilla forums is not WordPress software — which it isn’t — you’re probably going to need to set up an AJAX request in WordPress so that you can communicate external events into WordPress, which Achievements can then make use of.

ModeratorWhy upload a blank .htaccess file? You don’t need to do this WP edits that file for you. If you do not have the buddypress default them activated that could be the problem. BuddyPress must have a compatible theme.

ParticipantDon’t just paste your header.php, it’s useless and alters the page layout, as you can see

First of all, what is wrong with the multi level navigation? It should guide you through everything you need.
Second thing, is this is not the support forum you need for your issue. This is a buddypress plugin support forum, so I would recommend you go to your theme’s support forum and get nav support there.
The sub nav does not just involve html, as well as css, if your theme does not support navigation at all.

MemberI’m very new to Buddypress and to WordPress. I’m having a similar difficulty with profiles, groups, forums etc… links all redirecting back to the homepage. I had just loaded the great Suffusion theme, which i love, but will now try to go back to default to see if i can trace the problem. I would welcome any ideas.

Memberthanks guys! i’ve already installed buddypress and bbpress is running through it. i tried to install bbpress by itself using the old sql database first…. and something about it wasnt working, so that is how i ended up over at buddypress which i like better anyway honestly. i’m a bit of a newbie, so i’m afraid if i try option b i might mess something up and make my site implode

going to try using the phpmyadmin as suggested above and even if it takes awhile i don’t mind, i just have some things in those posts that weren’t copied anywhere else before my old host disappeared.

@mercime
Participant@VirtualityReiki I would do this in test installation, uploading copies of your server files and importing database of your bbPress install.
Assuming your bbPresss is in subdirectory, http://example.com/forums/, install WP at domain root using the same database as your bbPress install. Install and activate BuddyPress. Then follow this: https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/using-an-existing-bbpress-installation/ where you point to the bb-config.php file in http://example.com/forums/. Note that in this scenario, creating forum topics will have to be through BP Groups.
You can also do it the other way noted in the codex article, but the integration is not quite that easy
I remember going through 28 steps or so for an external forum integration pre-BP1.2. In addition, bbPress is being converted into a WP plugin which will work well with BP sometime this year so there’s hope that there’ll be a “switch” so that forums won’t be dependent on BP Groups component.January 23, 2011 at 3:07 am #103642In reply to: dropdown css and forum import
