BuddyPress doesn’t use WP roles for anything, other than “is this user an admin” checks we have everywhere.
So you’re using bp-default theme. If you went through the Installation Wizard after activating BuddyPress, the Register and Activate pages (along with other BP pages) would have been auto-created, and the uri would have been yoursite.com/register if WP/BP are installed in main domain.
If you associate the Register and Activate with pages you’ve previously created e.g. “Join Us” and “Activate Now”, then your url’s would be yoursite.com/join-us/ and yousite.com/activate-now respectively.
When you say the new pages are invisible, do you mean you get a blank white page in browser?
WP themes which are updated to latest WP versions like Twenty Ten and Twenty Eleven plus BuddyPress’ own bp-default theme have custom menu functions you’ll find in Appearance > Menus.
Just create a link named “Community” and add whatever links you want under it.

Hello, I recently was using this:

And its really great, and simple to follow, but I need to display some of the meta elsewhere on the page. I tried to echo the field that I created, but it doesn’t show up.. only in the actual meta area will it be visible.
Is there a different way to write that ‘plugin’ to show stuff in a different area? I just need to be able to echo it outside of the description area.
@mercime, I am using the standard default template and have gone into the general settings of wordpress and checked the box for anyone to be a subscriber. Still nothing.
@hornet1968 if you’re using a WP theme, you also need to install/activate the BP Template Pack plugin and go through Appearance > BP compatibility process. We’ve implemented filtering on profile field values – but did it in 2 passes. It’s fairly complex once you start tying in with the AJAX handling of the members directory.
I installed the latest buddypress and I can’t get the register and activate tabs to be visible. What’s more is that from my admin/buddypress/pages, when I click view, it just shows me my home page. Help! Extremely frustrated.
Is there a document or web page that itemizes what a BP Member’s capabilities and restrictions are by each WP Role?

Your best reference source is the site phpftwr, which will list all the BuddyPress functions for you, and let you drill down to find out what they do.

Are you being serious? You are asking just 1 hour later, why no-one has responded to your question?
You can’t add conditional menus / menu options via the WordPress menu settings in wp-admin.
If you want conditional menus, and those with PHP driven dynamic links (e.g. changing for the current user), you will have to code them in your header / navigation templates.
I found these
1. Group forum topics and replies can be deleted sooner or later by the contributor. (can overcome this with bbpress 2.0, installing as the sole group forum infrastructure. What a relief!)
2. Not only Docs can be edited, but also can be deleted. When a user have a grudge with the site, all the user generated content can be lost overnight with a single hiccup
3. Cannot give something back to the contributors like forum signatures etc
5. Cannot have categories, sub categories for group forums
6. Cannot promote users
7. User updates- if the user is a spammer he can submit spamms in a harsh way

@pescholar What were/are you using to register users? Any third party authentication plugins (i.e. Facebook), or just everything built in?

I am familiar with `bp_get_member_profile_data( ‘field=Phone Number’ )` and others, but now I want to get the user id of the currently logged in user. I also want to get the user’s role.
Is there any sort of index list of all the functions?
