I could probably handle cutting and pasting the above code, however, I couldn’t find the file you suggest that I edit. Wasn’t located in buddypress’ plugin editor, nor do I have a file by that name located in bp-members plugin subfolder…

Yes of course, but it is just an update 
and in many case’s, this solution is last and the easy way restore site 
The plugin has not been updated for almost a year, so not compatible with BP 1.5.5.
Best bet is to post at plugin’s forums at https://buddypress.org/community/groups/rs-buddypress-activity-refresh/forum/ or https://wordpress.org/tags/rs-buddypress-activity-refresh?forum_id=10 but it doesn’t look like the developer is responding at all.

I’ve just started working with WordPress and I’m running Buddypress as the social area of my website and it’s working well. I’ve been trying to add some plugins and the one I really wanted was RS Buddypress Activity Refresh but it doesn’t seem to work with 1.5.5. I’ve installed, activated and played with the settings. Nothing doing.
Can anybody help?

There is any settings for email activation in buddypress,you must add some code in your functions.php to disable sending activation email after resgistration.

You need to visit the themes page to ensure you have reset themes before logging out or trying to visit the frontend as the BP theme was still in effect operational in WP eye’s
What theme were you using before you deactivated BP and BP template pack? Go to server and rename wp-content/themes/YourActiveTheme to something like wp-content/themes/YourActiveTheme-xxx so that active theme will revert to WP default theme

Sorry, per initial scan of your files, you need to use the first method for theme compatibility – changing 16 BP template files. If you still want to proceed let me know.
As for your concern about updates, come around BP 1.7 more or less, you won’t need to worry about this. We’d most probably will post some steps to upgrade the template files until them. Best thing to do is to backup DB and server files regularly.
My website makes use of BuddyPress groups to organize content on specific topics. However, the term ‘Groups’ is not suitable, and I would like to call it by some other name, such as ‘Module’. How can I change the term ‘Groups’ to ‘Module’ sitewide.

Based on the HTML structure of your theme, you need to use the first option, i.e., change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your wp-chatter theme folder in server during the compatibility process.
If you’ve previously changed any of the BP template files in your theme folder in server, replace all of them for a clean slate by deleting the 6 BP folders – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /groups, /members, and /registration – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility.

Been tweaking WOO Canvas (child theme) for some time now. Finally got the (Canvas) sidebar showing up thanks to several tutorials in these forums for making the theme compatible. I’ve been going through the 16 files and customizing them, but I was hoping I could do the “header-buddypress.php” method as I’d only have to change 3 files and not 16 (I’m thinking of upgrades). 2.) AJAX / Javascript Compatibility
At the forums, for example, a member can’t create a new topic. If I switch to the default BP theme, works just fine (as it’s AJAX/JS that opens it up below). Is it a theme conflict? Or maybe I don’t have my DIVs in the right place? Thoughts? Or choose “Order By” and that doesn’t work either. But if you go over to the (BP) Groups (in regular WP) widget, that AJAX works fine. It’s only in the page content.

I don’t think you can upload a video with activity + . I assume you mean remove upload image from activity +? that is fairly simple.
try adding this to your theme’s main css file: .qq-upload-button { display: none !important; }
