Try creating a user in wp-admin – did it send you an email?

My 10c worth – it also may be that your database is corrupted – perhaps a plugin that hasn’t tidied up correctly.

I suggested earlier that you revert to a previously backed up database (ideally from a known working version) and system.

If you are not able to do this – as @hnla suggests, you should look at hiring a developer who’ll be able to look directly at your database and files, and dedicate the time you need to find a fix.

Either this site needs better search, indexing and signposting, or members simply aren’t searching! I suspect both:

I’m having a similar problem. When I register a new user it doesn’t always recognize the avatar. Further, when you upload your own image you can crop it but then it won’t upload. It just says “Upload Failed! Error was: No file was uploaded.”

I have this problem too. However, I can’t see where to set-up user registration in the BP admin section – these are the options I have under General Settings –

Disable BuddyPress to WordPress profile syncing?: Yes No
Hide admin bar for logged out users?: Yes No
Disable avatar uploads? (Gravatars will still work): Yes No
Disable user account deletion?: Yes No
Disable global forum directory?: Yes No
Disable activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts?:

Here is the code you are looking for, you’ll find it under /wp-content/themes/yourtheme/activity/index.php around line 22. This is presuming you have created a child theme based on the default BP theme.

Yes, uploading local media would have seemed like the logical first step – before building support for external providers.

I suspect though, that it all comes down to the lack of support for media uploads in core BuddyPress.

I’m curious why the standard WordPress core media uploads / gallery handling / thumb-nailing etc. haven’t been integrated with the BuddyPress member profiles. Is there something fundamental that stops those existing routines from being utilised and mapped to profiles instead of posts? I feel that in this area, 3rd party plugins are unnecessarily re-inventing the wheel.

With BP Gallery by @sbrajesh, you can enable/disable uploads from Activity stream update. You will also be then asked to associate that photo to album/s you have already created. In addition, when you create a user or a group album (if you enable it), you have the option of publishing 5 images or so to your activity stream or the group’s activity stream.

Ray’s oembed plugin will let you achieve something similar – store your videos / photos on a supported 3rd party and use the urls in your update: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/oembed-for-buddypress/home/

There sure ought to be. It’d be a great feature for both user update streams and groups. Maybe using the “float to the top” method that has been used to re-highlight commented on activity items

I do not believe in monthly subscriptions and the theme will be upgrade free for as long as BuddyPress keeps using the Parent-Child Theme structure (which will be forever I presume)

@boonebgorges released a plugin to control which fields are auto linked – have a search for that.

You can also turn them all off by removing the appropriate filter (do this in your functions.php or bp-custom.php). I can’t remember the filter off the top of my head – have a search on these forums – it’s been covered plenty of times.
