    @pcwriter: Thanks Patrick! Glad the screenshots sold the deal for you, I hope to not disappoint you, there’s a bunch of other stuff which hasn’t even been showed yet!

    @skolbloggense: I’ll install CoureWare on my local install and see how it looks and behaves.. If it’s coded with the default theme in mind, it should behave pretty well.. If it contains LOTS of custom css and templates, it might mean that I’ll look into on a later date.. Depending on the work involved that might mean a special version of the theme to be released with custom templates, and to keep the code clean for people who are not using CourseWare. I need to study the amount of work involved to see if it can be a free download, or that it comes with a small price (like the MultiSite and s2member version). It is a good suggestion, and since Courseware is an important plugin for a lot of education based communities, it is something that will be right on top of to-do-list :-)

    I’ll report back to let you know how it behaves! Thank you for your pre-order :)

    Ok I changed the two lab1006 to jscience and also changed this:

    $bb->uri = "http://www.punkrockprincess.com/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/";
    $bb->name = " Forums";

    And then uploaded the new bb-config.php file to the server & yet it’s still redirecting me to the main page when I try to go to http://www.punkrockprincess.com/forums

    ?

    Sorry I guess I didnt mention it because when I did the move, everything else was completely fine – I dont know why this would have been left behind?

    I would have had the developers do it but it would have cost more money & thats why I had to cancel with them, my budget is bone dry right now. Plus it gave me an opportunity to really get a hands on experience & learn a lot.

    So on my bb-config.php I see those two areas that has lab1006, and I just need to replace that with the new one.

    I also see this at the bottom of the bb-config:

    $bb->uri = "http://74.54.128.67/~lab1006/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/";

    Do I just need to replace http://74.54.128.67/~lab1006 with http://www.PunkRockPrincess.com

    Then everything should work fine?

    @thelandman – I will also like to see how you do it with Ajax.

    Oh, I’m sorry, I should have clarified: this happened on buddypress.org when trying to upload an avatar. So I don’t have access to the server. I imagine something is wrong on this server, assuming that I should be able to upload a group avatar…

    @nahummadrid Thank you, that is actually really awesome, if I can’t get @thelandman

    @thelandman Is there anyway you can let me in with your code, that would be awesome, I rarely get on here, so is there anyway you can email it to me? amanson@llakids.com

    Thank you,
    Andrew

    Hm, this plug-in is extremly buggy. Dialogs appears twice like “Show your address on a map ?” in the members profile. Map appear in the group – relaoding: map disappears.
    I dont think that someone can get this plug-in working. And it seems that the developer has no further interest in his project.
    It’s a great pity, because the idea of the plug-in is really nice.

    Recipe for your success:

    Wordpress for basic framework https://wordpress.org/download/ (Free)
    Buddypress for community https://buddypress.org/download/ (Free)
    s2member plugin for membership http://www.primothemes.com/post/product/s2member-membership-plugin-with-paypal/ (Free or Pro versions)
    Videopress for awesome video functions http://videopress.com/ ($59.97/year) also available as a plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/video/ (videos hosted at wordpress.com)

    Hope this helps! :-)

    I figured out my problem. You CAN NOT install WP 3.0 multi site in a sub directory. I put on the root and everything works now.

    @Nirock Thanks for the advice. I think you are right on. After walking away from the code for a bit this weekend, I started to see the problem in a different light and came to the same conclusion. I’m not even sure the buddyPress software is really needed for this project. It may be overkill for my client. Hopefully at some point adding custom fields to the activity stream will become simpler for hacks like me. I really appreciate all the help I got on this.

    @amanson I think its something in the roadmap for a future release. If you’re talking about activity updates take a look at https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-activity-stream-ajax-notifier/ probably the closest you’ll get.

    you could do something really similar to what you’re talking about with using P2 Theme. especially if you need it for tomorrow.

    haha thanks @linusf that’s the biggest compliment I can get. I’m currently working very hard sorting all the little styling issues and setting up the support section+documentation. Then I need to create huge amount of Achievements for people to earn for submitting tricks, and then it’s ready for launch! I have quite a few small tricks, and hopefully others will be submitting their tricks soon.

    Thanks for your interest and you can view some screenshots of the BP-Slick admin theme options here: http://bp-tricks.com/buddypress-slick-screenshots/.

    @r-a-y

    Here’s an idea. When viewing a member’s page, instead of having a button that says “mention this user” — have it say instead, “post on /username/’s wall” and then have the same functionality that is applied to the @username mention, happen. Thoughts?

    Two tweaks I would want to see:

    1. When someone is visiting a member’s page then let’s /assume/ the visitor will want to post something that ‘mentions’ that member, and have the resulting posting form already shown!

    2. If the above were implemented, then have the default text that gets placed into the resulting posting form ( @username) to still be there, but even if the user deletes it, send email to the member whose page got posted on.

    The member’s “Wall” feature on Facebook is definitely more user-friendly and intuitive. That way, email notifications go to the right member, without an “ @name” being supplied. I don’t know what would have to happen to transition from the ‘whole-site-activity wall ONLY’ concept to having that /PLUS/ ‘members get their own wall too.’ It would be a major step forward for BP.

    hello mercime, Thanks for your quick response. But that plugin wont provide moderation over group creation.

    I remember there was a plugin to perform this action in old buddypress or was it core functionality. not able to find it in current Buddypress.

    Please suggest if there is any other plugin or hack for this.

    Regards,
    Sam.

    In reply to: is it encoding issue?

    There’s a known issue where the bbPress tables don’t install as UTF8. I’m not sure if it’s a BuddyPress bug or a bbPress bug. Either way, the solution is to convert those tables’ encoding in your database. Be sure to backup first.

    @jc93 Ensure that your site is using UTF-8 encoding.

    @paulhastings0 Thanks for the reminder about the bp.org group forum. I’ve activated it now. As for whether to activate it on BP.org – no, this isn’t the one that I was talking about, though it would be very nice to have better (any) feed support here on this site. I need to do some load testing on the plugin before activating it here, but I’ll look into it. Good idea.

    @modemlooper That is the creepiest thing I have seen in a long time

    That shouldn’t be too hard. I’m more of a CSS and visual kind of guy, but I recommend checking with @dwenaus. He’s pretty good at creating plugins and I happen to know that he’s available for hire.

    I hope you release your plugin to the GPL. :D

    @rossagrant If you a delete a member I believe all their activity stream items are deleted as well.

    @queeneve Login as an admin and then visit your user’s profile. You should see some moderation options. Optionally, you can visit Dashboard >> Super Admin >> Users.
