I would love that idea.
The main reason why I think that diaspora has some great potential is because users can connect and become friends with each other across multiple domains who also have diaspora installed. The fact that diaspora is written in ruby might be a small obstacle because there are less capable ruby devs out there for writing modules.September 16, 2010 at 6:35 pm #92633In reply to: How to assign members to groups

KeymasterHi Sarah,
Try this workaround:

KeymasterDo you have the Groups component enabled on your BuddyPress install?
Login to your WP dashboard, navigate to “BuddyPress > Component Setup” and check to see if Groups is enabled.

KeymasterThe right place to post your support question for the BP Album+ plugin is here:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-album/forum/September 16, 2010 at 6:16 pm #92625In reply to: Remove WordPress version number

KeymasterThat’s because it’s hardcoded in the bp-default theme (unfortunately).
You can remedy this by creating a child theme with bp-default as the template. Then, copy over bp-default’s header.php and remove the WordPress version meta tag.

Participantive spent more than 15 mins trying to setup my avatar here but I didn’t bother to read the instructions on the profile page “….If there is a Gravatar associated with your account email we will use that, or you can upload an image from your computer.”
Thanks for pointing that out

ParticipantJust adding to this rather than creating a new topic:
I keep getting an error when trying to upload an avatar (on here):
Upload Failed! Error was: Unable to create directory /home/buddypress/public_html/wpmu/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/6656263. Is its parent directory writable by the server?
Also get a ’page not found’ whenever trying to search through search pages with multiple pages
And when I do look through searches there seems to be endless spam.
Appreciate there seem to be only a very small number of people keeping things going on here and they obviously give an awful lot so I really don’t want to offend, but it does seem that it’s not the best advert for using buddypress.
That said I’m using it anyway and looking forward to it too!

Hugo Ashmore
ParticipantUser blogs are a function of WP rather than BuddyPress. You need WPMU or the newer WP 3.0.1 installed and if installing WP 3.0.1 then you have to manually enable the Multi Site functionality; you will find a guide to doing this on the WP codex.

BuddyPress — support for nicely displaying tags and categories hasn’t been
included at the moment, but for I can definitely add in templates for
WordPress by 0.1.3. Tag/Category support in BuddyPress needs much more work
and will take a bit of time.Kunal

ParticipantThanks @rogercoathup – do you know where I’d find this file to edit? Thanks
September 16, 2010 at 1:17 pm #92596Mark
ParticipantThats fine @nuprn1 , I dont want to recover data. I am quite experienced with this now, but I cant find the functions folder, in the theme editor, it isnt there, is it in the buddypress plugin file? Im using suffusion theme?
Thanks a lot Rich

ParticipantThe solution from @nuprn1 is essentially the details for implementing option 1 that I suggested above, the code snippet I gave you is the option 2 solution.

ParticipantHi
I’m trying to do exactly the same thing but the plugin linked above doesn’t work when you have buddypress installed.
Wordpress can use the user “nicename” as the url – but for some reason the profile page breaks whenever there is a dash (“-“) in that field.

ParticipantThanks @rofercoathup and thanks @nuprn1
Rich, where would I add that code, to the activity loop?
Thanks again.
September 16, 2010 at 12:23 pm #92587Roger Coathup
ParticipantYou can adapt the code snippet in here by changing the blog id: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/posts-of-the-main-blog-in-site-wide-activity/
If your theme follows the default structure, you’ll find your activity loop in my-theme/activity/activity-loop.php
Also have a look at the custom loop documentation (click documentation under support tab) on this site
