I am trying to to find a way to make the two wordpress profile fields of first name and last name get filled in at registration when user sign up to create an buddypress accoutn.
Any ideas?
I am pretty new to buddypress and have a pretty simple question.
I would like to put an @ next to mentions in my users activity sub nav but i cant seem to find the file where I can change it. I have managed to find the file where I can change it for the overall site activity.
Any help with this would be great.

Can we change the buddypress default slugs. For example I want to remove the *groups* at groups ‘s urls, so the new url should be domain.com/group-name instead of domain.com/groups/group-name
And should we do that?

I have the same issue than this one (http://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/new-user-is-listed-fifteen-times-in-member-directory/?topic_page=2&num=15) :
: A member (last one, but not systematic) is listed 7 times. And when inside a group I list members for administration (admin option/manage members) I see one members 2 times, another one 3 times.
I have tested without plugins and with default theme -> Same
I checked inside database :
– wp-users has unique members
– wp_bp_user_blogs idem
One particular thing : i changed the name of the first field in the Extended Profile Fields – was “name” I put “societe” then cam back to name, because notice of some strange things (value of this field wasn’t kept, and show some other value appears) – There is a ticket on this, I think.

You’d need to realign your registration/register.php file again per our compatibility codes here

Sorry I have never used this plugin. Be aware that per its WP Plugins page, it has not been updated for a while and that your images and other media assets will have to be stored in their server, not in your server.
There are two media plugins compatible with BuddyPress
– BP Album/Media – free
– BP Gallery – premium
What about images uploaded via the wp-admin Media page?

I managed to get it to work now… I do the hard way, reset everything and start all over under a new folder /dev. Its working. But alignment is Out a Little.

There’s also this plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-user-account-type-lite/ but you would have to add some redirects to special registration pages with different profiles for respective users.
WP/BP versions? If multisite, is BP installed in main site or in subsite?
Did you install WP via Network Solutions webhost script or did you install WP manually i.e. via FTP? If webhost script, start from scratch and upload WP manually.

Looking at your site, your Forums for Groups is already installed, otherwise there would be no “Forum” tab in your Group’s page like so http://faithteam.org/faithnotes/groups/faith-team/forum/.
Check that there’s a bb-config.php in the root of your WP installation in server (root == where you would also find the wp-config.php file), open up bb-config.php and double-check that the database DB information is the same as that of the database information in your wp-config.php file.
Go to your Group Forums Directory at http://faithteam.org/faithnotes/forums/ and right beside the page title “Forums Directory”, you should see a “New Topic” button and click on it.

You could also install the bbPress plugin aka Sitewide Forums in your BuddyPress installation. I suggest however, that we resolve the Group Forums (internal bbPress) issue before implementing Sitewide Forums. Unless you don’t want Forums for Groups anymore? …

Do you mean the BuddyPress select/dropdwown box? If so, see my note in D) above where I mentioned “You might also want to check out the style modifications made in BP Twenty Ten for reference … ” Add those styles to the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet.

No, but it’s always good practice to backup your database and server files (including plugins and themes) regularly especially before upgrading site (BP or WP) and also before making major changes to your site.

– Check BuddyPress > Components panel, are forums and groups enabled (they are by default)?
– Groups: When you say you cannot access groups, do you mean you cannot create groups?
– Forums: Which forum are you having an issue with, Group Forums or Sitewide Forums? Did you check this out https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

First, in your new test site, do not activate any plugin except BuddyPress; and only use the bp-default theme.
Just so we’re on the same page, when you say you created a “group name”, do you mean you clicked on the button “Add New Group”? Only the fields you create in the base group will show up in the registration form.
Test: click on “Add New Field” as seen here https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-components/#bp-xprofiles then add a field with description and save. Log out. Then clear cache and go to registration page.
buddypress-links would be the plugin directory/folder not a file. In that message the file is bp-links-core.php.
Is your error message exactly the same? If you quote it, please use backticks ( “` ) so it doesn’t get mangled by this website….
To get back into the site’s admin it is sometimes necessary to disable all plugins but it would be better, normally, to disable one at a time or based on your error message….

Instead of a “social network site” i want this site only visible to the users themselves which i create myself manually.
The whole purpose of this website is to have users login to their own “profile” page but are not able to edit nothing at all. Only i (admin)can edit anything & everything. They only login to see the analytics of a device we provide them.
To make things less confusing.
– I (admin) creates all usernames & passwords
– then i email the unique usernames & passwords to my customers
– The customer logs in just to see the analytics (the unique code i manually enter)
so basically i just want uses to only see their own profile page & also i want a field in the backend where i can put in an analytic code that appears on their page. Each user will have a different unique analytic code.

I’m having the same issue, but when accessing my site via ftp there is no plugin file called buddypress-links.
I’ve looked in wp-content/plugins – is this correct?
If I deactivate buddypress and delete and start over, will I loose the edits I had to do in my Devinci theme, or will I have to edit again after so that the added code reflects the bbpress?

I am using BuddyPress to post a church directory online, and it would be great to be able for the visitor to see the members grouped by first letter of their last name (alphabetize). I’ve seen a few topics about this, but no answer yet.

I have just moved my site to Network Solutions shared hosting and I’m having some issues with uploaded avatars.
My avatars will upload fine and allow me to crop once uploaded, but once I hit confirm on the crop page, permissions are set incorrectly to 640 (instead of 644), thus forbidding public read access to the images.
How can I get my avatars to upload with the correct permissions? Both the avatars directory & it’s user subdirectories are all correctly set with 755 permissions.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
