ParticipantYes it would be great if title and meta description were possible to tweak in BP just like in WP, so many options there. E.g. in WP there’s no need for All in one seo plugin in WP for adding meta description in posts because excerpt for feeds can be used in the head of a theme. If it’s not in the BP core, who knows what a plugin developer will do tomorrow, upgrade the plugin or not it’s entirely up to them. The “SEO buddypress plugin” wasn’t upgraded a while back and it didn’t work 100%, people needed to use it together with the WP plugin so the installation worked also with pages in this title/description sense. I think if this was only a little more friendlier in BP it would become such a huge help. Maybe all this is in the BP code and can be simply placed in the head of any BP theme file like in WP installations (I wouldn’t be surprised if it was already there if the plugin exists) … but where to look? This is the major why I might not install in the root due to main pages and posts can not be nicely SEOed.

ParticipantI’ve disabled all plugins with no improvement. I’ve also found that the banned user can visit the group and post to the forum. After posting, the Group Admin shows a duplication of that member in the group. One is banned and one is not. This is the Same user. The links below represent at least 3 others examples of this issue. Any suggestions?

Participant“I suggest you install the SEO buddypress plugin. It’s gives you control over the titles.”
I knew you would say that but I don’t want plugin SEO BuddyPress. It has to be in core BuddyPress or function. WordPress does fine with titles. I don’t want to bother the contributors to do SEO title.
How BuddyPress can miss the most important thing the title? Is there other solution?

ParticipantI resolved the problem. I checked my php error log and found a memory limit error. I researched the problem and added this line to my wp-config.php file:
define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ’64M’);
I then renamed my “buddypress” plugin folder to “9buddypress”, which returned my access to my WP Admin page. After renaming my plugin folder to “buddypress”, I was able to successfully activate the plugin.Hope this helps anyone else who encounters this problem.

Member@Beck_B: Yes, but the cropping doesn’t even work, like my browser is looking at it as two images, they are both the same, when I click on “Crop”, it’s just a small corner of the image in the top left. – http://llakids.com/members/Andrew

Participant@amanson: The part you mention with the avatar image sounds like it might be the normal behavior. On mine (child of bp-default), when editing the avatar for a group, it lets you crop in the top picture, while the bottom picture is a preview of what the cropped & resized image will look like…. I always assumed that’s just how BuddyPress does things, haven’t tried to do anything with my avatar or a group avatar here on this site, though.

ParticipantHi.
I have solved my issues also with the avatars on wp 3.0.1 and buddypress 1.2.5.2 on a dedicated server and now it works. Here is what i did :
1) I turned off safe mode in Plesk.
2) I used an SSH login session to go to my wp-content directory
3) I did a chown OWNERNAME:GROUPNAME uploads -R command (with the username and the group i have created this with)After this all works perfect.
Hope that can also help.
Cheers

MemberHello @Modemlooper ! Thanks for your plugin! I fixed it so that it tweets out the actual activity permalink url
You can check out the fixed version here: http://wpmu.org/new-buddypress-tweet-button-plugin-download-here/ If you want to update yours at the reop, I’ll change the download link to point to your plugin at the repo.
I was experimenting with this yesterday, so was happy to see you made it into a plugin!August 13, 2010 at 5:09 pm #88990In reply to: Banning users from groups

ParticipantFix / found it.
The index.php files I needed to change was located in.
/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/activity/
Thanks for the help!
August 13, 2010 at 3:39 pm #88979Matt
ParticipantThanks for the reply, I must be doing something wrong as I can’t seem to get it working, or even pick up any of my changes.
The admin area says, Unplugged uses templates from BuddyPress Default..
I assume I need to edit index.php in /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/ ?
Any tips?
Many thanks!

Participant@jonnylons, are you looking for something that lets users write blog posts for their sites? Somebody pointed me to a few good front-end blog post plugins. If that’s what you’re looking for, say the word, and I’ll dig ’em up.
Or, now that I look more closely at the link @footybible offered, sweet. And he mentioned the front-end approach already. I have no current need of this solution myself, as I’m not running multisite, but I am definitely bookmarking that guide in case it comes up in the future….
So, sounds like it just depends on how much control your users need and how much time you want to invest in setting that up.

Participant@jonnylons I had a similar goal to you. I ended up instead creating a highly customised, edited backend. Whether you are interested in doing this completely or maybe just checking out some of the things I learnt, you may want to check out my guide to the matter here:

ParticipantThis is a great topic. I will be watching to see if there is a solution, too. Would love to migrate one of my old boards (over 80,000 posts) into a Buddypress enabled site.

Participant@pcwriter and @Beck_B thanks! I am trying to find a way to add something to the adminbar of Buddypress that would allow members, when logged in, to write for their sites. At the same time, I don’t want the backend of sites exposed to members who are not writing for that site. Can’t seem to find a simple solution. Maybe these work.
