ParticipantSarah, this is a fabulous plugin and it look so very nice. I look forward to the next update of this. Wonder why this isn’t in the Buddypress extend section? You will get better feedback and more people will try it if it is in there….

Member@satanas147 Thanks for that. I did not think about people who don’t have Friends enabled. I will add that to the next version.

ParticipantThanks @pollyplummer I had this happen on a test database of mine. Couldn’t figure out exactly why. I figured I’d just reinstall it soon, but I’m glad to learn more about what happened and ways to fix it.
I also upgraded from WP to WPMU with 3.0 and so that screwed up the forum data as well. So, beware anyone that tries to do that.

July 28, 2010 at 9:27 pm #87309In reply to: Disable /wp-admin/ for "normal" users

ParticipantOk guys here is what I found may work. If you implement the two additional plugins into your site, you should never see the wp-admin page while using a buddypress site.
1. Be sure not to disable BuddyPress to WordPress profile syncing in Buddy Press settings. You want to link both the buddy press and word press site together
Now for the rest of the settings
2. Install Absolute Privacy
Under settings: Lockdown the site and Block admin access. For the “Redirect Non-logged in Users To:” part: enter your Login page permalink for My Login
3. Install Theme My Login
Under settings for Theme My Login: Put a 0 for Page ID and ensure the other 3 check boxes are selected, Pagelist, Links, and Stylesheet.
NOTE: In order to log out from your wordpress control panel you will need to click the link at the top left of your wordpress control panel to get back out to the buddy press site. You should still be logged in as your user in Buddy Press. Simply chose log out and viola you should not see the wp-admin. Test it out by entering a fake username/password, you should bounce back to buddypress login screen..
Same thing with the login procedure. You will need to log in through buddypress and click on “edit this entry” to get back to the wordpress control panel.
Another layer of wp-admin lockout may be to create a redirect for wp-admin and wp-admin.php
ALSO: It doesn’t seem like Buddy Press Sliding Login Plugin works with this setting so it may be wise to disable that feature. Be sure to backup, as results may vary. Proceed at your own discretion.July 28, 2010 at 9:21 pm #87308In reply to: Member Profile Page

MemberThis fix worked for me:
Go to: phpmyadmin > yourdatabase > wp_bp_groups_groupmetaFind the group you’re attempting to post to and then delete the forum_id value. Go back to your group on the front end. When logged in as admin of the group, go to settings and re-enable your forums. It will save a new forum_id for you and your posts should start working. This is a solution for BuddyPress groups that are starting a fresh new forum, not for groups with forums that have existing posts.
I posted about it here: http://wpmu.org/daily-tip-fix-for-buddypress-group-forums-error-when-creating-a-new-topic/

ParticipantThanks for taking a hard look. Clearly, I need to learn more about what’s allowed and what’s not. I “borrowed” the code and css from another template in an attempt to widgetize my home page, but the evidence would suggest that I’d be better off knowing what I’m doing rather than diving in and hoping for the best

Thanks again!
Oh yeah, I agree about that toolbar thing… it’s gone.

Participantthanks for the response,
With buddypress forum attachments it gives me the option to browse for uploads, but there is no button for uploading the file, so whenever I try it gives a result “[failed] 3R_SL_6.jpg” any ideas as to why this could be?
thanks

Depends on your host if you need your php.ini everywhere. On most cpanel hosts, you can configure where the php.ini will be. Just search for php.ini (or maybe just php) and you’ll see where you can configure that so you only have one to update.July 28, 2010 at 7:23 pm #87294In reply to: Buddypress forum photo upload nightmare..

Participantbuddypress forum attachment is the only plugin that would allow local uploading to the server
group forum extras allows some bbcodes/shortcode for external hotlinking

ParticipantUseful plugin Pisanojm wonder how much memory it consumes
July 28, 2010 at 6:52 pm #87272UmaBlu
ParticipantUploading big files on your site by you or site users, like video files, need much memory, because a part of the file is stored in your server memory. Big files, much more memory.
Well, i think that 128M RAM is ok if you will not upload big files.( more than 100M).
Also, Wp Super Cache need much memory than other scripts…
If you will get that memory error again, change the memory limit. (256 if possible)July 28, 2010 at 6:49 pm #87271Pisanojm
ParticipantMy opinion 96 mb minimum…if you have a lot of plugins and traffic (mine is set at 128mb).
I’m using this plugin with BP to help figure out usage and I hope it will help you too:

Participantwell, i am glad to hear that your Buddy site is working now.
Now verify that in your Cpanel, under Setings/Services you have PHP Confing option, and and if you find there something like this
“PHP5 (FastCGI)
All files with the extension .php will be handled by PHP5 FastCGI processes.
FastCGI for PHP makes all your PHP applications run through mod_fastcgi instead of mod_suphp. This eliminates the overhead of loading the PHP interpretor on every hit. Since it is always in memory ready for the next hit, the responses will be generated faster.”
Set fastcgi option if it’s available.
It will boost up your site and also you will need only the php.ini from the root file.
I don t know much about GoDaddy…
My hosting is Hostmonster, and they let you to do a lot of things…July 28, 2010 at 6:02 pm #87267r-a-y
KeymasterIf you remove that function and filter, you cannot set the activity stream as frontpage.
if that is not an issue for you, then go ahead and remove the filter:
remove_filter( 'page_template', 'bp_dtheme_page_on_front_template' );The problem probably has something to do with the empty $wp_query->post->ID.
The DAP team should either remove the filter and create a compatibility filter or change how it looks for the empty post ID.

Participant@ajc88
I just did this for a website I’m doing. The easiest way is to make a language file with the changes. See this page on the documentation to do it: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/Basically, you change everywhere that it says group to whatever you want the name to be.
If you just want the link to “Groups” page to be something different, you could do a child theme (see https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/) and change the file header.php where it adds the group navigation link. However, it will still say group everywhere else you go.
