KeymasterOnly use MU if you want multiple blogs on the same install (or if you want to let your users create their own blogs on your site). BuddyPress is otherwise identical.

ParticipantHi guys,
I’m not the most technical but trying to get to grips with setting up a BP site. I want to setup all of my groups and then only have admin (myself) able to add any more. I have just installed thsi plugin.
What needs to go into the configuration in my admin panel in order to achieve this.
Thanks
Ross

ParticipantSomeone please build it so that I can stop seeing this argument recur on these forums every few weeks. If I didn’t have seven thousand other things to do I’d do it myself but hey – I just took all the thinking out of it by drawing a map
i’m wrapping up a buddypress group forum extras plugin which brings in some bbpress plugins to the bp-group forums (sigs, bbcode or shortcode, quote)… this might be tempting; especially the support forum plugin. i’ll look into it.

KeymasterSome people are just refusing to understand the BuddyPress Groups concept. If you want something that acts as a site wide discussion forum, create a Group. As Boone’s suggested, it’s not hard to auto-add new and existing members to it; he’s even listed what a plugin would need to do for it.
March 13, 2010 at 8:35 pm #68167In reply to: BP mark as spammers acts wierd in 1.2.2.1
Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterWhen a user is marked as a spammer, all of their Activity data is deleted in the database. There’s no way to retrieve. They essentially start out as new users as far as BuddyPress is concerned; they’ll need to log in or edit their profile, etc, in order to appear throughout the site (on the members directory, for example).

KeymasterI took ten minutes and figured out why it’s not posting on the new bp-default. This zip file http://teleogistic.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/bp-tinymce.zip contains a version of the plugin that *should* work on 1.2+ versions of bp-default. I have not tested it thoroughly, and will not do so for a few weeks (at which point I will update the version in the repository), but until then please feel free to hack away at this one.

ParticipantBut you can integrate BuddyPress into your exisiting theme.

There really isn’t a comparable plugin out there.

ParticipantI had the same problem. I solved it by using FTP to delete the BuddyPress folder from the plugins directory on my host. Now I can login, but BP is gone.

Participantoh, well, I will have to find something else, because, I truly am proud of my theme, thanks for the help, I just have a simple question, Is there anything similar to buddypress. All I need is a bar at the top, that I can put a couple links in. Anyone know of any plugins that is similar, thanks.

KeymasterMuch of the BuddyPress post and comment functions have been removed from 1.2.2 since they were no longer used at all. They were due for removal in 1.3 but I brought that forward because I didn’t want plugin devs making use of them. They are in the process of being moved to the back compat plugin. The activity stream tracks blogs, posts and comments and is a much better way (both performance and usability wise) of fetching the latest blog activity. Boone’s method is the way I would recommend.

Inactiveright, the .htaccess is causing the 403 error but I cannot figure out why. I don’t know much about .htaccess. Why is installing Buddypress such a problem?

ParticipantThanks for the recommendation! I’m going to have to read up on that. I’m still very new to BuddyPress, but I really like it. As a quick test, I copied/pasted the loop from the example Activity Stream Loop, and it seemed to work just fine. So, with some “tweaking”, I think it’ll be what i need.
BTW – round here I don’t think bumping is too taboo, but the 13 hours between Friday night and Saturday morning are generally not a very busy time on the forums
LOL! For the first part: good to know! For the second, well, the fact that it’s a “busy time” for me is only further proof I need to get out more!

Thanks again!

KeymasterNot sure why bp_blogs_get_latest_posts() isn’t working for you, but you might try as a more future proof alternative (bp_blogs will be phased out) the activity loop https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/
So you’d have something like (off the top of my head – probably won’t work without tweaking!)
<?php if (bp_has_activities( 'action=new_blog_post&max=5' ) : while ( bp_activities() ) : bp_the_activity(); ?>
// use the activity loop functions to display information
<?php endwhile; ?>
<?php endif; ?>BTW – round here I don’t think bumping is too taboo, but the 13 hours between Friday night and Saturday morning are generally not a very busy time on the forums

ParticipantI know bumping isn’t good forum etiquette, but… any ideas on this? Again, other functions and features of BuddyPress are working just fine. But, I can’t seem to get this function to work. I’d really appreciate any help or insights! Thanks!!!

Yes. That’s how it manages the links to the BP pages.
