KeymasterI disagree. Yes plugin authors SHOULD do that, but WordPress plugins should be able to declare a parent plugin that must be active. That way, when BuddyPress is deactivated, my Welcome Pack plugin is deactivated automatically. It also protects against plugin authors who do not know how to do this properly; either through lack of PHP experience or ignorance. There’s a whole range of WordPress plugins out there, and some are really well written, and some are really poorly written.

KeymasterIt’s not up to WordPress to deal with this, it’s up to plugin developers to write their plugins so they don’t die if BuddyPress is not present. I’ve put the code all over the codex for this:

if so and that caused an error – can you drop me a message with what happened so I can fix it? thanks!

ParticipantFor those that find this while searching …
you should see Navigation Links message (“You may want to add new navigation tabs or links to your theme to link to BuddyPress directory pages.”) on the right side after clicking on Appearance and then BP Compatibility link.

MemberI’ve spent the last couple of hours using the compatibilty pack to get everything lined up – by matching the HTML layout.
It was quick and dirty but now it all fits fine and my sidebar is present (although I’d like to remove it from the buddypress specific pages). To be honest I was surprised I got this far!
Problems:
1. How to get the Nav buttons on the bar? or somthing like. Personally I’d like a ‘Socialise’ Button with Mystique drops downs for the buddypress components I use.
2. Forums don’t work. If I load up the default theme they work (although I can’t create a topic) but through Mystique I just get a black white page.
Any thoughts? If I send you my email address any chance I can have a look/ at what you’ve done?

ParticipantHi Peter,
i have sended you the fr_FR translation by the usual way…
I have a question to you and all other users.
What do you think to call this plugin “bp-doclib” instead of “buddypress-group-documents” ?
DocLib is really shorter as Group Documents in the admin menu and more handy to use on a forum, like
“hey my doclib is going crazy”, instead of “buddypress-group-documents is….”…

+ 1 for me (even if DocLib (docutheque) is in use since 0.1.3 release on bp-fr.net)

KeymasterPlugin dependancies is a WordPress-level issue, and well-written BuddyPress plugins can silently quit if they find BuddyPress is available.

KeymasterYes, it’s called manually going through the code

Try looking through the various bp-COMPONENT-templatetags.php files.
There’s also the codex – codex.buddypress.org – but it needs a little TLC.

ParticipantNope, I’ve got it down pat right now. I was working on it again just the other night, as I’ve had to go back & redo all the ones I took screenshots of.
My only dilemma right now is whether to release it as a child theme (of the original WP theme) or a forked theme. Hrm.

ParticipantHi,
This was an issue with looking for spam and deleted fields in the db. They were not there in wordpress install so I removed this contraint. I just checked in version 1.1.8 to fix this.
Thanks,
Dave

Memberruthlessbookie, you were right on the money – thank you very much indeed…

This is an issue with the Buddypress Template Pack – that is, the Template Pack does a great job of fitting Buddypress fairly neatly into an existing theme – and on going back through everything again, the Template Pack run-through does mention the navigation tags – but this perhaps needs to be emphasised a little more, making the point that without the Groups navigation tag you can’t actually get to the Create a Group option?
Also – the problem with the new accounts not setting up was that I was using a capital letter in the name. In the default Buddypress theme, this brings up an error message that explains that only lowercase can be used. It would probably be helpful to quite a few people if that same error message could be duplicated in the Template Pack – or failing that, it might be a good idea to tell people to emphasise to their visitors that the name needs to be in lowercase (since it’s not a very common request).
Still, having got through these minor hiccups, we’re up and running – and it really does do a surprisingly good job out of the box – impressive work, everyone involved…

MemberHi Andrea_r,
I am too trying to get bp to work with mystique, it looks like you made some excellent progress. Do you need any assistance or is there anything available for download yet?
I really appreciate the help.

Moderatorin your theme folder /groups/index.php
find the <h3> at top replace with
<h3>
<?php _e( 'Groups Directory', 'buddypress' ) ?>
<?php if ( current_user_can( 'delete_others_posts' ) ) : //only admins and editors can see this ?>
<a class="button" href="<?php echo bp_get_root_domain() . '/' . BP_GROUPS_SLUG . '/create/' ?>">
<?php _e( 'Create a Group', 'buddypress' ) ?></a><?php endif; ?>
</h3>This will show the button for only admins. You can still create groups if you go to the url.

ParticipantThere’s a problem with the links installation on my bp 1.2.1 site running single wp.
On the links directory, none of the options works to display the links in order – most votes, newly created, etc. When I select a link category, it doesn’t do anything. It keeps on displaying the 10 newest links only. The pagination links doesn’t work also. It keeps on displaying the 10 latest links.

ParticipantAh, many problems!

But developer who is dealing with the conversion, slowly manages it,
one problem at the moment,
is for example with links.
in phpbb links are normal like that:
 http://tv.opentuition.com/categories/13/OpenTuition-ACCA-P2-Channel
in converted bbpress:
<!– m –>http://tv.opentuition.com/categories/13 … P2-Channel<!– m –>
is there a quick way to clean all this extra junk code?
March 11, 2010 at 12:57 pm #67755In reply to: Sort Groups Alphabetically by default (BP 1.2)
Boone Gorges
KeymasterI think Dwenaus’s solution works, but he forgot a line:
function custom_group_alpha_first() {
?><option SELECTED value="alphabetical"><?php _e( 'Alphabetical', 'buddypress' ) ?></option><?php
}
add_action( 'bp_members_directory_order_options', 'custom_group_alpha_first' );Another, less good, solution: Put the following in your theme’s functions.php:
function members_alpha_by_default( $query_string ) {
global $bp;
if ( $bp->current_component == BP_MEMBERS_SLUG && !$bp->current_action)
$query_string = 'type=alphabetical&action=alphabetical';
return $query_string;
}
add_filter( 'bp_dtheme_ajax_querystring', 'members_alpha_by_default' );It’s not as good because it doesn’t change what the dropdown reads. A simple fix for that is just to move the Alphabetical option to the top of the list in your theme file, but if you’re going to do that you might as well just add SELECTED to the alphabetical option and skip the filtering function. Maybe I’m missing something with the bp_dtheme_ajax_querystring hook – is there a way to change what the dropdown reads? I thought that’s what ‘action’ was.
