The random images, like yours here, is a gravatar. It’s not possible to select a bunch of graphics and pick from it, whilst still using gravatar. You can switch to using the “mystery man” profile graphic, and can customise the default graphic by using the ‘bp_user_gravatar_default’ filter; is that any good? I can share a code snippet after work if so

Hello everybody! I am about to start a website and the beta version of the same has already been rolled-out. Though I have just began my marketing from yesterday, I have got lots of spam users. The difficult thing is, they are creating more blogs and topics than expected!!
I sincerely request everybody to post their suggestions here. It will be beneficial to all the upcoming startups that will be powered by wordpress and buddypress. Pls help me out.. This is really annoying and preventing me to go further..

Out of curiousity, will there be a new release of BuddyPress soon? Or should I just not run nightly of WordPress?

WordPress 3.2 is slated for release next month, so I’m assuming BuddyPress will need a new release as well in a similar time frame.

You can map profile fields from Facebook to BuddyPress with WP-FB-Autoconnect with custom code. It is indeed on the roadmap!

Mmmm weird.. BuddyPress and WordPress SEO just work fine both enabled. The trick I posted is to offer full compatibility for WP SEO URL rewriting. If you get completely blank BuddyPress pages something is really messed up. I did not know Hybrid worked with BuddyPress but I think the error is to be found there. Try enabling BuddyPress and WP SEO and switch to the default buddypress theme. If it still gives you empty pages then reinstall both WP SEO and BP.

ok here’s the EASIEST WAY EVER =_= Totally for noobs!

This does need a child theme, but you can still put it in stead of the bp-defaults.

1 – open your file …./wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-defaults/
2 – rename “sidebar.php” to “sidebar_bkp.php” ( to revert in case of errors)
3 – download this file ( http://dinoraptor101/com/swso/bp_nologin_sidebar.php.zip )
4 – extract the php file and upload it to the directory above
5 – rename the file you uploaded to “sidebar.php”

DONE!

If I enable Yoast´s WordPress SEO plugin http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/, anything buddypress related is vanished. Just shows background image.

Tried editing my header.php per @bowromir suggestion here http://bp-tricks.com/snippets/making-buddypress-compatible-with-the-wordpress-seo-plugin-from-yoast/ As I am using a child theme of Hybrid framework, did not find `` but `` so I replaced the beforementiones statement with

` with no luck. Any clues ?

Thanks for replying.
Well, we have a very specific, slightly unorthodox, design in mind for the registration page. For one, the plugin’s ‘Disclaimer’ box is exactly what I was looking for, without trying to edit any BuddyPress code (which I would prefer not to do). It just seems more flexible, especially since I am somewhat of a beginner in the world of web building and design.
So, I suppose my question is this: can I use the plugin registration form instead of the one that came with BuddyPress?

No, BuddyPress absolutely requires custom permalinks. What about putting “%post_id%” into the custom field? I’m not sure what the default behaviour is when permalinks are not set, so you may need to play around — take a read of https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Choosing_your_permalink_structure

I don’t think there’s any way of integrating these two similar, but different, beasts. What type of registration field do you find BuddyPress lacking in? Privacy options?

I installed the plugin Register Plus Redux because of the flexibility of the registration fields. However, the BuddyPress registration page overrides it, and I’m not sure how to either integrate the two, or make the plugin function.
I saw that someone had posted this question already, but it didn’t resolve in a way that helped my situation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I use https://buddypress.org/community/groups/wp-fb-autoconnect/ premium version. Its developer has automatic profile fields population in his roadmap, but with no release date unfortunately

Found the solution… seems to be a problem with non-english installations…

Solution: edit the wp-config.php file and add the keys generated here:
https://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/salt/

Buddypress is now up and running…

Hello, I have just joined this group

I have installed BuddyPress + WordPress Network successfully and everything works fine. Today, I have installed WordPress MU Sitewide Tags Pages plugin and have encountered two problems:

1. When anyone publishes a new post on their blog, it appears on the main blog and it seems fine, but activity stream “thinks” that this one post is two, I mean that activity stream shows one post from sub-blog (where this author has published the post) and second post from main blog, so, one activity links to post on it’s original blog, and another one links to the main blog’s page (where this post is located). Can anyone tell me how to solve this?

2. SITURL/tags isn’t working besides the fact, that I have selected this option and on the settings page there was written that a new blog with “tags” name would be created, but it didn’t, this is not all – I don’t want tags to be a blog, for example – tags.something.com, I want it to work like these – something.com/tags

I hope you will help me, thanks in advance!

I just erased everything from the server… new manual WP3.1.2 install, new mysql db… the blog by itself is working perfectly. I did not configure multisite in order to eliminate variables…

When I try to install buddypress, I get a “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page” error… deactivating buddypress gets the installation back to normal…

So my issue is not manual-installation related, and not multisite-related… sorry to bother again, but any other ideas to help me?

I’m googling this error, but cannot find a solution that applies to my case…

I have installed buddypress on the server after installing I do see menus Activity, Members, Groups but when I click it I get this error:

@mercime Hmm, I deactivated all the plugins, but still didn’t work. The problem is, that the person who made my theme hasn’t been active on here for over a year, so I think its unlikely I can get into contact with him
