MemberI got screens working:
this stuff is found in skeleton component, bp-example.php, function bp_example_screen_one.
Two alternatives how to load screen template:
Put template file under wp-content/themes/current-active-bp-theme/ and use the bp_core_load_template function part to load it. Remember to comment out default templatefile stuff, there is the “OR” statement in comments

OR
Use the BP build in template file to present content for your screen. If you use bp-default theme, there is no plugin-template.php file!! So copy that from some other theme.

KeymasterYou can access this by logging into the WPMU admin area and navigating to “Site Admin > Themes”. Enable the BuddyPress default theme, then head back to “Appearance > Themes” to activate it.
Did you try this?

Memberjgadbois:
I’m also trying to make the skeleton component working with normal WP 2.9.1.
To show example link in admin menu edit function “bp_example_check_installed” in bp-example.php. Replace “manage-options” with “manage_options” in add_submenu_page function call. You also have to put priority to action call like this add_action( ‘admin_menu’, ‘bp_example_check_installed’, 30 );
I’m tackling with redirect thingy too.. frustrating.

ParticipantYah… SSH command line stuff is a dream. LOL. Especially for someone who is a designer first and a coder second :o)
So you mean create a WordPress “Page” called blog (and make sure it’s slug is ‘blog’)? I had tried using my index.php file as a template that I assigned to a page… but the loop didn’t work.
It is weird tho’. In pervious versions of BuddyPress… you could go to /blog/

KeymasterAvenue K9 is only compatible with the BP 1.1 series.
I’m quite sure it hasn’t been updated for 1.2 yet.
—
The BuddyPress default theme for v1.2 is located under /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/.
You don’t have to move this directory anywhere.
Also make sure to enable the BP Default theme under the WPMU admin themes page.
You can access this by logging into the WPMU admin area and navigating to “Site Admin > Themes”. Enable the BuddyPress default theme, then head back to “Appearance > Themes” to activate it.
Let us know if you encounter any errors.

ParticipantHi
Thanks for getting back to me. I had initially installed a pack option (supplied by my hosting service) which installed both wordpress mu and buddy press but did not install properly me thinks. So I installed the wordpress mu and then the buddypress plugin. Now templates working fine except I cant seem to get the default buddypress template and the Avenue K9 one seems to be broken (have downloaded and installed many times…no luck). So where can I find the defualt template to install…cause it doesn’t come up in the theme search (nor does Avenue K9)
Thanks

ParticipantRight, thanks Symm2112 for the explanation. I am just starting back up learning about Buddypress and forgot the distinction. My install had been sitting dormant, but I’m on the move getting ready to convert everything over on my site.
I will follow both your, r-a-y and windhamdavid’s instructions and see what I can come up with. The plugin method should be pretty easy to parse out the date ranges and import.

KeymasterDid you follow the instructions properly?
https://buddypress.org/blog/news/buddypress-1-2-beta/
I then switched the theme to the buddypress default theme (making sure it was activated in both places)
The part I highlighted in bold is odd to me.
What did you do exactly?

ParticipantI found that there were a few spots that I needed to change mem limit to import but ok. I used this tutorial to import my install. you have to remember that you’re not importing into Buddypress, you’re importing into wordpress or wordpress MU. Buddypress is just a plugin, not a platform. It ADDS the social features to your wordpress installation.

ParticipantI set the memory to 128…so that’s not the issue. I’d like to know how I can export from mysql and import to buddypress and if the table structure is different. That would solve my issue without having to fight with this?

ParticipantI need to reopen this thread to ask the group what I need to do when the Buddypress Import feature experiences a php memory failure halfway through the import.
I was just importing the xml file and got to around 90 posts (I have over 500), then it crapped out.
I updated the php.ini file in wp-admin for 128M, but I don’t think changing it to that high a setting on 1and1 helps at all. They state they have a max of 40, but I think they just put that out there and you can actually go over the limit, but I’m not sure.
I know how to dump my mysql file from my WordPress database on my host. I’m just not sure what would happen if I imported the database from a general WordPress install to the database for a BuddyPress install.
Here’s what I’m seeing after trying it twice. I see that it see the posts I’ve already added.
88 Importing attachment http://netmix.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2006/01/jam_markspoon1.jpg... (30 kB)
89 Post Jam & Spoon's Mark Spoon Passes On already exists.
90 Post Larry Heard's "Can You Feel It" vs. Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" Speech already exists.
Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 33554432) (tried to allocate 524297 bytes) in /homepages/7/d106361195/htdocs/netmix_home/wpmu/wp-admin/import/wordpress.php on line 143Anyone suggest and links that can help?

ParticipantI had a similar dilemma but managed to figure it out, even how to add javascript without screwing up the activity stream (see https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/add-content-above-activity-stream-in-bp12 ).
Assuming you’ve elected to have site activity shown on your home page, you want to add content to bp-default>activity>index.php. Not home.php. The neat thing is that you can add content that displays to non-logged-in users that is different than that displayed to logged-in users.
You can see it in action on my site here: http://rspace.org

ParticipantYes, I should’ve mentioned that this was developed with (at the time) the latest revision of buddypress in the trunk. Make sure your BP revision is more recent than the release of this plugin

Has anyone got any sites they’ve implemented this on that they’d be happy to post a link to? Or any feedback?

ParticipantThanks for the mention nickbwatson. I did not write the code, it was assembled from several sources with help from BP developers.
In my version I generated the username/user URL from the fullname, onkeyup on the form. I use the same javascript trick for blog name. I think there were some security objections to doing that, but it works for me for now.
Someone earlier also posted a simpler php version that produces an entirely random string as value for username on a hidden input field. Can’t find that post…

Participantthe error log is probably in the root directory & should show you what is breaking the site.
As bbPress is installed correctly, it looks like it is a problem with the BuddyPresss theme with either incorrect php or calling an undefined/incompatible function.
What version of PHP is your server running?

ParticipantBrajesh is not the same people as wpmudev.org. I refuse to pay 79/month to get a plugin and then have to pay for it again when it needs to be updated. I don’t mind paying 30 for 3 months for a plugin, especially since he has a great adaptable theme in cosmic buddy as well. He’s been working hard and has really taken a lot of our suggestions and added them. I completely agree about the subscription model but I treat it as a $30 expense for a really versatile gallery plugin and the assistance he gives me on my site. It’s like having a wp consultant nearby.
