Do you need to have a forum to be able to post on the wire ?

No, but you have to activate the wire in the wp-admin->buddypress->component settings.

To post a Wire, you have to go to on the profile page of the person or the group you want to send a message.

Click on Wire in the middle menu.

An input box appears at the right where you can type in your message.

    Send.

    That’s all !

    i related it here

    no solution for the moment

What exactly are you trying to do?

The skeleton component is not a working plugin. It does not do anything of and by itself. It is a generic, bare-bones plugin template from which you can create your own, custom BuddyPress plugin.

To work with it, you not only need PHP-coding skills, but also a sufficient understanding of the inner workings of BuddyPress.

Another detail, if it helps. My large avatar and thumbnail avatar are different, each coming from a different group that I have.

My large profile avatar is coming from:

    wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/2/1194984513646717809chat_icon_01svghi-2-groupavatar-full.jpg

And the smaller, thumbnail profile avatar is coming from:

    wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/2/467b8b4b877c1_fasting-4-18-groupavatar-thumb.jpg

It seems at least one other person is having this same problem ( https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/11-missing-avatars#post-24891 ) though there is no current solution. I’m very grateful for any suggestions.

Hi – just an update on this:

I unstalled & deleted Buddypress (a few times!)

Then reinstalled BP manually by uploading zip file etc

    Did the file delete/move thing

There were a few ‘null’ folders that crept in there somehow and contained element of the new BP theme folders so I had to delete these as well

All appears to be functioning as it should.

This is an issue with the plugin, not BuddyPress. Make sure that you are using the most recent version of the plugin and that it is compatible with BP v1.1.

If you are using the most recent version, then contact the plugin developer and let them know about the error message.

I’ve also moved the topic to the ‘Third Party Components & Plugins’ board.

Let’s please keep this discussion to the public forums and not in private messaging. You will get better results with multiple people looking at this thread.

Okay, one more time, please answer these questions.

Thanks Jeff I did see that. I jumped to the end ““I’ve built a completely custom WordPress theme and BuddyPress theme”

I was thinking mine was custom but maybe its just altered. I think I need to visit

““I’ve used the old default themes, but modified the layout/colors””

a little more in depth now that you point it out. thanks.

BuddyPress Admin Bar -> My Account -> Blogs -> Recent Posts

    Takes me to profile page.

And for the database, if you are not planning to reinstall again, you could remove buddypress specific db entries.

this template doesn’t make sense at all. What template are you talking about? Are you talking about bp specific themes? If so, of course when you are no longer using buddypress, they won’t work correctly.

How about bbpress plugins? Do they work, too?

Some will work by putting the bbPress plugin in the /mu-plugins/ folder.

BuddyPress’ embedded version of bbPress does not have a bbPress backend, so try using bbPress plugins that do not have an admin options page.

(I’d try _ck_’s plugins since most of her plugins do not have an admin options page)

Other trickier ones will need to be ported over.

Delete all the buddypress and its related plugins from the directory. Make sure you also don’t have any buddypress plugins under mu-plugins.

    OK Andy solved this one for me in this thread. The answer is this: xprofile_get_field_data( $field_name_or_id, $user_id );

Where $user_id is (in this case) $member and $field_name_or_id is (in my case) 61. I got the number by looking at the Profile Field I was after in Firefox with the Web Developer toolbar and it showed me the number in the class. I can’t work out another way of seeing a custom profile field’s id.. Off we go!!!

I posted about that yesterday, here, 2 posts down the list. https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/no-output-from-the-loop-on-bp11-admin-blog

Glad to see someone else is having the same issue (sort of). Means I’m not losing my mind!
