You can set the default avatar type in your WP backend under ‘Buddypress’ > ‘General Settings’.

It is a translation function. Wrapping ‘Blog Posts Feed’ in _e() ensures that it appears in the .po file that translators use to create language packs. The ‘buddypress’ argument ensures that it is associated with the ‘buddypress’ textdomain (since potentially the same string might be translated in different ways when part of different software packages).

The difference between __() and _e() is that _e() echoes the string to the screen.

If telling bbPress to reinstall itself (on the buddypress forums setup page), and creating a new group, then then posting a message to the forum in that group doesn’t work, you’ll probably have to track down your server log file and see if/what messages you are getting.

I can’t say where the log file might live; depends on server and OS, and out of my field of knowledge. Do you have a bb-config.php file in the root directory of your site? (same folder as wp-config.php)

I tacked this one myself on my site. This is a custom buddypress.org feature, and was all done by using firebug.

The Pointer you see in the borders for the avatars on the profiles is actually a background image, added to the border via CSS.

The Image that buddypress uses is https://buddypress.org/wp-content/themes/buddypress.org/images/av_speech.gif

Now you need to put the proper CSS in your theme’s global css.
